Durant is incredible. A Jordanesque scorer and very long.
He is the best scorer in the league and should take the torch after Kobe relinquishes it.
Just a great outside shooter too. He was Larry Bird-like against Turkey. A pure shooter and a pure scorer. Like a Bird-Jordan hybrid. Yeah, he was the reason they won. Otherwise Team USA would have lost.
If I were constructing the 2012 team I would go with Derron Williams, Derrick Rose, and Chris Paul at point. If CP3 wouldn't go then I would go with Westbrook. Then at shooting guard I would go with JJ Reddick and Tyreke Evans.
At small forward go with Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and either Rudy Gay or Andre Iguodala. Then at power forward, Chris Bosh, David Lee, and Lamar Odom. If Bosh opted out then I would go with Kevin Love. Dwight Howard would play center.

In the NBA 20-30 years ago, many "average" black players had more assists and steals compared to Durant. Do some research.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3202

If his length and athleticism is so great, why is his blocked-shot numbers "very human" as well? His "intangibles" need to improve, as basketball is not "just" about shooting the ball.

Of course, changing a shot (via stout defense) doesn't show up in the boxscore, but actual steals and blocks do, and that's what interests me.

    To pistol pete,

That looks like a black supremacist team...

<div>Yea, I agree that the other countries are much better than in '92, and eclipsing the 44 ppg average might be a little ambitious, but I have to disagree that every game will be a challenge.  The US only had one competitive game in Beijing, and that was the gold medal game.  After destroying Spain by 37 points a week earlier, they took them too lightly the second time, and was too lax on defense.</div>

You can't "do some research" because other than Magic Johnson there is no comparable 19-21-year-old from 20-30 years ago.

In the modern era, against similar players at the same age Durant was considerably better than Dirk, and dwarfed Garnett, Bryant, Webber and McGrady as a scorer.

The only one better at Durant at the same age was LeBron, but I'm betting Durant will do more long-term and end up considered the best NBA forward since the real LB.

You should try and get some sleep. 3AM is a little late to be on the board during a school night.

    This thread is nauseatingly grotesque.

All of you homosexuals seem to be forgetting about the Caste System"¦you know, that methodical "formula"Â￾ in which nearly all great white American basketball players (and athletes in general) are ignored, mocked, discredited, unwanted, undrafted, unrecruited, and heaved into the memory hole doldrums of this instant-satisfaction society of simpletons.

The next time you Black Panther types feel the need to sexually gratify yourselves whilst watching the American blacks play basketball (and all other collegiate and professional sports in which blacks artificially "dominate"Â￾)"¦think about how many white superstars weren't allotted similar opportunities to succeed (or any whatsoever, which is usually the case).

The fan-boy wigger piggies are partaking in the same AfroCentric banter over at ESPN.com. This thread should be flushed from existence like the methane-flavored turd that it is.Edited by: Thrashen

    Oh, the wit!

Here's what you don't understand, jackass. When it's 3 am EST, it's only 12 am Pacific. Which means there are still basketball coaches up and working with whom I'm corresponding. How many white athletes that you worked with got scholarships yesterday? Because for me it was two.

That's what I thought. So keep typing, bitch.

Let's not get too upset about the performance of the Euro teams. Wasn't it just a few years ago that USA was beaten by Puerto Rico and Italy, with Spain and Argentina dominating?

I, for one, am tired of the fallacious argument that "TEAM USA" has to be all-black, or all-black except for the "token White." That's the complete EMBODIMENT of the Caste System, and the reason why this site exists.

Whites don't get the same opportunities as blacks in the NBA due to the Caste System, so TEAM USA should not be chosen based on NBA stats. Chase Budinger, an obvious talent, might end-up as another (White) "role player" in the NBA - so he's unlikely to have the stats that the black ball-hogs do. That presents one of the main fallacies because... TEAM USA would not be "weaker" if they had Reddick, Budinger, Ridnour, Love, Jon Brockman (tough SOB and can flat-out rebound), etc.

In a few years, Kyle Singler and Robbie Hummel could also star on Team USA. But, alas, Whites (particularly Americans) are rarely "allowed" to shine in the NBA, and they are rarely chosen to play in international competition...

Mike Krzyzewski made his reputation at Duke recruiting and coaching some of the best white players in the nation. It just seems so bizarre that he won't put more white players on Team USA. He has major say in who makes the team and total say in who gets minutes on the court.

Hi guys sorry for the lengthy layoff, I've been so busy with stuffs not to mention burned out by serious issues like this.

My biggest biff my white players (US and Int'l alike) get ridiculed by so called basketball "experts" in the US is their defense and go-to-guy capability. I honestly think very few white players possess these two qualities in becoming serious NBA prospects and stars alike.

Take the 3 best NBA whites of this era (Dirk, Nash, and Gasol). Dirk is a great all-round scorer, but his defense is always questionable, and his low-key nature always brings his leadership to question. Nash is a great offensive play-maker, and team captain, but his defense will always be his Achilles heel. Gasol is superb talent who's defense is reasonably better than Dirk, and Nash (yes different position), although Dirk is way better than him in the scoring issue. The issue on Gasol though is his leadership, with critics (fans and experts alike) always saying he's at best a No. 2, which is not so bad regardless of one's skin color. IMO, his impact in LA's back to back rings validates his status a franchise player. Dirk and Nash both had gigantic impacts in their respective teams too.

It's difficult for a non-black player to achieve superstar status in today's NBA because of the astronomical requirements and impatience of NBA (coach, fans and experts alike). Dirk, Nash, and Gasol achieved superstar status because they were given all the time to learn and excel, something many of their contemporaries NEVER get. It's all about money and investment, and the blacks seem to be the best for the NBA's money-making needs.

The stakes are just too high for a non-black player to excel in today's NBA, much higher than it was 20-30 years ago.

When I look at the present generation of white players, one generation that has a remote chance of leaving it's mark is the 1988 generation:

    Kevin Love
    Chase Budinger
    Brook and Robin Lopez
    Kyle Singler
    Spencer Hawes
    Luke Harangody
    Danilo Gallinari

Any one of these guys can become an NBA star if simply given the fair chance. Regarding Kevin Love, the only reason I can see why he saw very limited action for Team USA was his defense. Coach K (of any NBA coach) seems to have no confidence in Love's defensive capability. To simply put it, defense and leadership is what's keeping white players from the NBA.

j41181, you forgot David Lee. Also, the "white players can't play defense" is in my opinion an unproveable, over-used excuse for keeping white players off the court.

I predict the U.S will win in 2012 unfortunately. Coach K is an amazing coach and the U.S has amazing scorers like Kobe and Wade (if they go), they have younger amazing scorers like Durant and Lebron too. The U.S has defensive phenom Dwight Howard etc. etc. I agree that Redick being on the team would make sense as a guy off the bench for his outside shooting ability- think of why Michael Redd made the team in 2008. David Lee should make the team in 2012 and possibly Kevin Love or Brook Lopez (3/4 white- I believe). I'm guessing the U.S will have AT MOST 4 white players IMO.

I don't expect a blow out in the semi-finals and finals though. It will probably be similar to what happened against Spain in 2008. The U.S was only up by 4 points with a few minutes left before Kobe knocked in a 4 point play and then Spain started fouling. Rubio will be older and more mature though in 2012 and hopefully Spain will be healthier (in 2008 Jose Calderon was injured).

Bottom line: is that the U.S has many AMAZING black basketball players. IMO a higher percentage of blacks have the elite tools for basketball and a higher proportion of whites have the elite tools to be top football players. Just my take- feel free to disagree. We shouldn't be intimidated by probable trolls like Seth and just speak the truth. Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

A defeat for caste footballers in this World Championship, but dont forget that the other black teams (Anglona, Ivory coast etc) were soundly beaten by white teams....outside of the US, blacks are not having more success than whites in basketball, but for some reason inside the US there are currently a large number of high performing black players.

I think you are making too much fuss about it, simply because basketball happens to be a very important sport in USA. In Europe, it is a popular school/recreative sport, but I doubt it is the sport number one in any other country except Lithuania (or perhaps Greece?). No wonder, because it is a sport for overgrown mutant guys, where 95% population can't compete at the elite level. The big popularity of such extreme, weird sports seems to be an American speciality, after all.

The lack of success of African teams is quite understandable, because they have a very limited talent pool due to the small size of their male population - hardly more than 170 cm (5'7). Since black US Americans are the tallest West African population in the world (178 cm/5'10), they naturally excel over their small African brethren.

What I find bizarre, however, is the fact that international basketball powers are mainly recruited from nations possessing small to moderate body size by current European standards (Argentina-174 cm, Spain-177 cm, Greece-178 cm, Turkey-174 cm, Lithuania-177 cm). Only Dinaric giants (Croatians, Serbs), the tallest people in the world, can be considered the real natural basketball talents. This can tell you something about the level of competition in the current international basketball.

    Deadlift,

My proposed team had 3 white American players. All the great white centers that I could think of were European. Chris Kaman plays for the German team I think. Brook Lopez could be added if that team needed another center.
But David Lee and Kevin Love are studs and should make the 2012 team.
The good white pg's I was thinking about (Nash and Dragic) are not American.
JJ Reddick is a great all around guard and an awesome shooter so I put him as a guard.
Anyone would add Durant and Lebron James and probably Wade at the 2 and 3 spots. So that would leave another wing player which is why I went with Andre Iguodala. He has experience and played a gritty game.
If you want a shooter with experience then Mike Miller would be perfect.

Somewhat of a problem is that many of the great white big men are non-American. Love and Lee are great. Do we count the Lopez twins? So the majority of good big men are white. Not just stats guys but great team players like Amundson. The problem is the lack of White Americans at the shooting guard and small forward positions. I think that these are the caste positions. THEY want these positions to be like running back -- all black. Hopefully Singler and Hayward break through. I also suspect that the great high school white point guards are not recruited. This shows up in the lack of white American point guards. When Scheyer fails to get drafted then you know that something is wrong.

I can give credit to Durant without taking away credit from white players.
Durant's strong points are his great shooting and his relative lack of drama.
I think USA would have lost at least one game had Lebron played instead of Durant.
I am also pretty sure that I said earlier on that JJ Reddick should have made the team.
He would have been the best shooting guard on the team.

I also take exception to the perception that Team USA played great defense. We played good defense, but there were lapses, lack of good rotation and no shot blocking threat. Also, Westbrook mainly gambled to get his steals. Oh, and are rebounding wasn't the best. Well, that is what happens when Kevin Love plays only garbage minutes.

Without Durant we would have been a very average team. Basically a team of ghetto ballets who cannot shoot, only slash and fast break, cannot really pass, and who gamble on defense.
If Team USA had an average coach then we would not have taken home the gold -- even with Durant.

Finally, in a discussion about the 1992 Dream Team I posted my own white American team and compared each of them. If I remember, there were some very intriguing matchups, albeit with one of the downsides being that the careers of Bird, McHale, Laimbeer, and Mark Eaton (the big men) being at the end of their careers. I would take a peaking com of John Stockton (who had a 10 year peak it seems) and Mark Price (underrated. A total assassin in his prime) over an aging Magic and Isaiah. The matchup at the three is Dominique and Drexler against Bird and Mullin. The question there is who gets hot. They also have Pippen. I think I have Kurt Rambis countering Dennis Rodman. The key is at the shooting guard spot. Can Craig Ehlo contain Jordan? I also have Jeff Hornacek and Majerle (who played in 1988) at the two. Thunder Dan would help slow down MJ and could also post him up. If Hornacek got hot then Jordan would have his hands full. My last player is Tom Chambers who could play the three or the four and would bring scoring off the bench. However, he was also nearing the end of his career but he would still be a match up problem.

I would definitely choose Chase Budinger over Mike Miller! We must not allow White athleticism to be "hidden"...

As for White American big men, they appear to be rising in college basketball (and several were great in the last 2 NCAA Tournys), but, in the NBA, they don't get enough minutes or opportunities. Even Spencer Hawes got jerked around by Sacramento, and now he's on another team, having been traded.

The reason White bigs get cheap-shotted in college and the NBA, is because blacks have been taught their whole lives (by the MSM) that they are the largest race and every other race is small in comparison, so when they see a White 7-footer, it really scrambles their primitive brains.. Well, they are just going to have to deal with it because most White basketball players are going to have White kids.

We are not the ones that are "afraid" of competition, but you can't have anywhere near "true" competition when the league is 80% black, and the brothas are ball-hogs and won't pass to Whitey. It's that simple.

That's an exaggeration. For example, I saw Carmelo Anthony on an episode of "Punked" and he wasn't intimidating at all, and he was frail. I wouldn't describe him as an overgrown mutant.

From following college basketball, many of the black forwards and centers seem to be getting SHORTER, and in more and more cases, FATTER. Quite a few of these shorter "specimens" are on "big-time" programs, too, so that's really saying something about the thinning of the black "talent pool."

I acknowledge that a guy like Andrew Bynum has more "true size" - but there's a stiffness about him IMO, and he's also permanently-injured, and that will probably continue. Andrew Bogut, Marc Gasol and Marcin Gortat look huge. Previously -- guys like Mark Eaton, Rik Smits, Bill Wennington, Luc Longley, Chris Dudley and Will Perdue were huge.

Manute Bol, who passed away recently, had height but he was super-super-frail. None of my White friends have any desire to have a frame like that. But, frames like these..

Gheorge Muresuan was incredibly massive as well.

Black athletes are either skinny or fat usually. Or they look like they are on steriods like Dwight Howard
    and Lebron James.
