i can't believe they already gave up on their raw but physically gifted white LB, Slade Norris thus wasting their 4th rounder... if they only were so quick to admit mistakes (if it was a mistake, we'll never know now) when drafting black players...

Nick Miller will be the primary return man, lets hope he makes a big impact.

HaHa! If it's the first quarter of a Raider game, that interception must have been thrown by DuhMarcus Russell...

Apparently BigMac Russell may lose his starting job. Even some of the DWF's are starting to get annoyed. His 39.8 passer rating through 3 games is ridiculous. Bruce Gradkowski is the second string qb who would start if Russell does get benched.

If Gradkowski were black he would be one of thoseheralded "affletic" QBs and would be getting numerous opportunities to prove himself in a starting role. That doesn't automatically mean he can be a star in the NFL but hopefully he'll be a noticeable improvement over DuhMarcus if he gets to play. The playing timeGradkowski had as a rookie in Tampa three years ago wasn't enough to judge how good he can be.

I think Russell is going to turn out to be a bigger bust than Akili Smith. The hopes of having more black quarterbacks in the league are slowly starting to fade. Rivals and Scout are trying to counter this by having several blacks as the top high school quarterbacks in their ratings. I don't expect them to get far with that as quarterback is the most difficult position to play in football.

yes DWF's are claiming he is worse than Ryan Leaf. It would be nice that when fans think of the all time qb bust Russel's name will pop into their heads.

Not sure how true this is, but I wouldn't doubt it. Maybe some teams will actually start drafting players that enjoy football and are more concerned about winning than a big pay day.

"Our tailgate happens next to the road the players drive in and out of the stadium. After the dismal game, some of the boys went back to do a bit more tailgating and eat...a white Rolls Royce is leaving the stadium with JaMarcus Russell driving...fans know this and are booing...the passenger side window rolls down and with JaMarcus driving one of his home boys on the passenger side yells out 'Well at least we are eating good, you guys are still broke'...and JaMarcus visibly chuckles in the driver's seat..."

DWID your tailgate quote is synopisis of the dysfunctional relationship with the DWFs and the prolific affelets. DWFs who scrap the bottom of the barrel to get tickets or work their entire life to buy season tickets and are sh*tted on by the Affelets who suck. I would not have been surprised if DuhMarcus would have yelled some racist remark at the tailgaters, such as "you crackers made me rich". Oh, then these same DWFs are right back tailgating, over eating and drinking, while not paying enough attention in bringing up there children right. A truely dsfunctional cycle.

I hope the Raidas bench this dufus of an affelet.

from rotoworld, more bad news:

Raiders LB Ricky Brown (ankle) could need season-ending surgery, coach Tom Cable said Monday.

Brown hurt the ankle against the Giants in Week 5 and Cable said he'll miss four weeks at a minimum. It's another blow to a Raiders run defense that is ranked 31st in the league. Fellow linebacker Kirk Morrison suffered a sprained knee in the game and his status for this week's game against the Eagles is unclear.

Too bad because he was playing well in a rare case of the Raiders giving an unheralded White player a chance:
Raiders SLB Ricky Brown (ankle) admitted that he's unlikely to play again this season.

<DIV =s_pNewsTextMain>Brown is out of his cast and has been running while doing light cutting. Expect a decision about whether to place Brown on injured reserve soon.

Just wondering about Coach Cable,

From what I understand, he's got some personal problems of his own. But if he clears them up, does he deserve another shot at a head coaching job? It's my own opinion that he's done one hell of a job under extreme pressure from the front office. I think he's shown that given an even chance, he can do some very positive things with the team.

Chances are, he'll be fired by Davis at the end of the year. That's why I'm wondering about this. I think one of the teams that are going to fire their head coach should give Cable some real consideration when hiring another coach.

I think his stock is way up, no matter what. Sometimes, there are definite positives that come out of seemingly all negatives. This is such a case.

The Raiders signed J.P. Losman, after his stint in the UFL. Further evidence that JaMucous is through in Oakland. Of course, JaMucous probably will be signed quickly after he is released in the offseason because of his "affleticism" and "tremendous upside".

We had a thread in the past year or so about #1 draft flops. I don't think we considered Jamarcus Russell because he was only drafted in 2007.

It seems high time to induct Jamarcus Russell into the draft hall of shame.

Good for J.P., and good riddens to DuhMarcus!

Remember Darren McFadden and his "blinding speed"? His longest run from scrimmage this season is 15 yards. The "slow" and discarded Peyton Hillis had three 19 yard runs in a single game last year when Denver was forced to use him. McFadden is reminiscent of Reggie Bush, whose "blinding speed" has been all but useless to him as a runner in the NFL. Could it be that reputed speed isn't everything when it comes to playing running back, wide receiver and defensive back?

From Rotoworld: Darren McFadden's longest run from scrimmage this season is 15 yards.

<DIV =s_pNewsTextMain>He has just four runs of 20+ yards in 22 NFL games, and all four of those runs came in a 164-yard performance against the Chiefs last season. "This is the NFL. I think your ability to have people miss at that level is much different than this level," coach Tom Cable explained. While injuries have played a factor, McFadden simply hasn't been the homerun hitter he was billed to be.

Rotoworld finds a mostlyempty glass to beover halffull:
Justin Fargas' release means the Raiders "clearly feel good" about the running back tandem of Darren McFadden and Michael Bush, according to ESPN's Bill Williamson. Williamson believes it's now "McFadden's time to shine" as the "top option" in the Raiders backfield. Held back by injuries and an inability to consistently break tackles, McFadden has averaged just 3.9 yards per on 217 carries the past two years. On the flip side, his 10.6 yards per reception is fantastic. It looks like it's now or never for McFadden.

smiley36.gif
10.6 yards per reception bysomeone with "blinding speed"is "fantastic." Why is it so many blacks with "blinding speed" are so very ordinary and often times complete busts? Is there more involved when it comes to success in"professional" footballthan just straight line speed over 40 yards?

Sprinting on a football field is rare. Sometimes a WR will sprint for a deep pass but even then he's getting bumped and will have to adjust to the pass so it wouldn't matter if he ran a 4.2 or 4.6 40. RB's mostly run between 1-10 yards which makes their 40 time irrelevant. Either they can find the hole and then break a few tackles or they can't. It's rare for a RB to get in the open field sprinting and when he does he's usually changing speeds to avoid LB's and CB's.

If a football player can get open consistently, make tackles, sacks (above average) or average over 4 yards a carry and consistently score would it really matter if the player ran a 5 second 40 at the combine or was 2-5 inches shorter than the ideal?

Justin Fargas has a had workman like career. I remember when he was one of most sought after RBs in the country back in 98. He selected Michigan. Once there he suffered a major knee or ankle injury. Michigan thought he was done and put him on the back burner.

He later transferred to USC and did well there, albiet did not make any All American Team etc. He has played in the NFL for years making good dough. I think two years ago or so he was turning heads as the feature back for the Raidas pathetic teams.

I wonder if any team will pick up this "Half Affeletic" player who was a profile in determination and preserverance?

The Raiders finally made a good decision by releasing Javon Walker. Walker is a perfect example of a scrub wide reciever.

Raiders unload Javon Walker, Greg Ellis

The worst contract in the history of free agency is no longer active.

The Raiders finally cut Javon Walker Monday and dumped defensive end Greg Ellis while they were at it, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Walker was named the biggest free agent bust ever by the NFL Network, and we can't disagree. His contract was particularly egregious because it was obvious in 2007 Walker had nothing left physically. The guy was benched for Glenn Martinez in Denver.

(I actually wrote a post at the time in my former life calling it the worst contract ever. Blind squirrels, nuts, and all that.)

Oakland paid Walker $21 million over the last two years and got 15 catches in return. He may wind up in someone's camp this year, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he's played his last regular season snap.

Ellis actually started his Raiders career well enough, but knee troubles slowed him down late in the season.

Heyward-Bey is even worse than Javon Walker.

I have a Greg Ellis rookie card, and he looks absolutely huge (his upper-body) on it.

He's definitely on my list of likely 'roiders (at least in the past).

from rotoworld:

Raiders coach Tom Cable confirmed that Trevor Scott has supplanted Thomas Howard as the starting weakside linebacker.

Howard has yet to sign his tender, and the Raiders are expected to shop him along with Kirk Morrison leading up to the draft. Scott had a successful trial-run in the same role late last season, racking up five sacks in the final six games.

Hopefully Ricky Brown will man the strongside spot again. He was doing very well last season until going on IR.
