Patrick Bailey, an undrafted rookie LB out of Duke, is the team's rookie of the year for his play as the White Special Teams Demon. Congratulations! [IMG]

Re: the Mike (surprised he doesn't use "Michael"--blacks almost always use formal and/or diminuitive versions of names) Tomlin T--And to think that 25 years ago, this was not mainstream amd was generally treated with derision.

Tomlin was on "Pardon The Interruption By Douche Bags" on ESPN and wouldn't you know it; the caption on the bottom of the screen mentioned the lack of non-White coaches and whether the need for the "Rooney Rule" for college football was necessary.

Of course, if Barack was just another hack in Chicago ghetto politics and not running for president this year, this issue would be just another ho-hum recycled affair.Edited by: OldSchoolBoy75

The team thinks it was good to give Max Starks $7 million for the just-completed season. Amazing....

"They also will consider using the franchise or transition tags on a player to maintain their rights to one of their free agents. They did that last year with Max Starks and, while it cost them a $6.9 million salary, it paid off when he started 14 games at left tackle for the injured Marvel Smith, including all three in the postseason.

NFL teams have until Feb. 19 to tag one of their players.

"As it turned out we were very happy that we had Max available when he was needed," Colbert said. "We were fortunate that he was still here because it gave us an experienced guy who had played as a starter in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl."

The Steelers have four offensive linemen who can become unrestricted free agents Feb. 27 -- tackles Starks, Smith and Trai Essex and guard Chris Kemoeatu. Tackle Willie Colon can become restricted."

I wouldn't mind if the team got rid of all the above linemen.

The article also says the team wants to "get younger on the defensive line," which means they want to get rid of valuable back-up white players.

If they replace guys like Chris Hoke and Travis Kirschke before next season, I can easily see them disposing of Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel after another one.

It's conceivable the team could have only Big Ben, a couple TEs, a White Special Teams demon, and the PK/P/LS as white players from 2010.

Kevin Colbert is one of the greatest caste whores of all time, along with pathetic rich-boy Dan Rooney. Rooney congratulated Obama after the superbowl. [IMG] Just when I thought this idiot couldn't get any worse. I hope Tomlin fails, but Big Ben and Heath Miller will keep them afloat for a while.

Anyways, if casteboy Colbert uses the tag on another sumo, I will barf.

My guess is that Trai Essex-a huge disappointment-and underperforming Chris Kemoeatu will be gone. The team will try to use oft-injured, fatass Kendall Simmons at guard again with Darnell Stapleton.

I doubt that anyone would try to sign restricted FA Willie Colon because of his mediocre play and what the other team would have to give up.

So that leaves us with Max Starks and Marvel Smith. I think Starks will be resigned, and Smith will be as well, if he is healthy.

The team should probably use as many as 4 picks in the next draft on guards and tackles, but we already know that Colbert [IMG] and Tomlin will cross nearly all the white men off their wish list.

I would be shocked if, in addition to Justin Hartwig, there is another white starter on the line next season.

That's what's reallyominous about the Steelers -- there doesn't seem to be a single young white player being groomed to start on offense or defense. It appears the Steelers aregoing to replace Jacksonville in a year or two as the blackest team in the league.

The NFL has its new Bill Romanowski. Move over all you affletes who are arrested every day for aggravated assaults and domestic violence, and make way for Jeff Reed and his out of control temper. Maybe this will even knock Michael Phelps out of the news for a few days:

    Reed throws towel tantrum

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed is in trouble with the police over some towels, but not the Terrible kind waved by his fans. <INLINE1>Pennsylvania state police say Reed threw a temper tantrum at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria, a tiny borough about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, because its restroom didn't have any towels.

Reed has been cited for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, offenses similar to traffic tickets that carry a maximum fine of $300 and 90 days in jail each. Police said he broke the towel dispenser then used profane language to an employee and also outside the store.

"Reed caused damage to a towel dispenser as he was infuriated at the fact that there were no towels in it," according to a news release by Trooper Shawn Askins, who issued the citations. The incident occurred Saturday about 2:50 a.m.

A message left on an answering machine at Reed's home was not immediately returned.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said the team wouldn't have any immediate comment.

"We're still gathering information right now," Lockett said Saturday.

Reed made 27 of 31 field goals and 36 of 37 PATs for 117 points in his seventh season with the Steelers, which was capped by Pittsburgh's 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl.

Reed has made nearly 83 percent of his field goals (162 of 196) and scored 733 points for the Steelers in his career.

Only in the NFL can a white man make national sporting news for breaking a $10 paper towel dispensor....while a villanous turd like Leonard Little killed a woman while DUI, then got another DUI a couple months later....andprobably less than 1% of football fans have even heard ofthis story.

What Reed did wasunquestionablymoronic behavior. As Don mentioned, Reed will now be compared to socially inept thugs like Chris Henry or Adam Jones.

Hmm, I wonder why Big Ben didnt immediately jump in and defend Reed's actions like he did for the lovable delinquent, Santonio Holmes. Similar to Brett Favre, Ben knows his role when addressing the media

I guess Reed is the new "Mike Vanderjerk," goodie.

Reed may get a pass (no pun intended) as therehave been a fewrumors that he is "gay." Other than looking a bit like the "comic" Pauly Shore I highly doubt there is anything to it.

Of course the media already has that active homosexual pro athlete they've yearned for for so long -- Eddy Curry. [IMG]

Our "justice" system at work. Santonio Holmes, whohas been arrested at least three times that I can recall just since being drafted in the first round by the Steelers, gets a heaping helping of manlove from the attorney who is supposed to be prosecuting him and from the judge who is supposed to impartially dispense justice. From a wire report:

"A few weeks after being feted at a parade in his honor at Disney World, Super Bowl XLIII Most Valuable Player Santonio Holmes also received the royal treatment at Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

"When the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver entered the courtroom Thursday to answer a charge of marijuana possession, Deputy District Attorney Christopher Avetta stopped him. 'That was a good catch,' Avetta said as he shook hands with Holmes, who made the winning touchdown catch in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIII.

"The defendant reeled in more praise from District Judge Gene Ricciardi, who then arraigned Holmes and released him on his own recognizance. 'I want to commend you for donating your receiver gloves to charity,' he said. 'It shows you have a strong character.'

"Holmes declined comment afterward to a throng of reporters, but his attorney, Robert Del Greco, said the reception didn't surprise him. 'It's the Steelers. Is anything else important?" he told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review." Edited by: Don Wassall

Yeah,I cant believe this really happened. It's almost surreal.

But then again, this is america, Holmes could have been some random black criminal in that court room....he'd probably get the same bleeding heart "punishment" for his skin color alone.

"Robert Del Greco, said the reception didn't surprise him. 'It's the Steelers. Is anything else important?" he told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review."

This sentence is particularly insane....even "smart" lawyers and judges cant see past the drunken, waterboy, nut-hugger, jock-sniffer mentality. How "proffessional" of that judge to mention something as trivial as a superbowl catch in a court of law. Santonio Holmes had 3 kids with 3 different women BEFORE he was even drafted by Bill Cowpatty and his AA goons.

I'm beginning to despise Holmes as much as Plaxico Burris, Leonard Little, and (fudge) Pacman Jones.

While I think that Marijuana POSSESSION should be decriminalized nationwide, you can clearly see favoritism in the court of law at work here; because it is clearly prosecuted big time in America currently. But in this situation they are more concerned with Holmes game winning catch.

But on the last comment Thrashen. Burress and Holmes aren't at the despicable level of that thug Pac-Man. Pac-Man sent his Entourage after two men to shoot them up b/c one had dared try to get a number of a girl he was with.

On Outside the Lines; one of them men stated he asked the girl "are you dating him" when Pac-Man threatened him, and she replied; "no just a friend", or something like that. Of course this hasn't been PROVEN yet. Anyway Pac-Man thinks he can just start popping them things; even people. [IMG] [IMG]

This is why, when I was younger I have never felt comfortable trying to get a girl's number in a bar in most places, especially here in Jersey. There are just too many NUTS out there; who can snap at you if you don't assess the situation properly; or in Pac-Man's case even if it isn't his girlfriend. It is better meeting girls thorough friends or in some better social setting IMO.

The Steelers signed James Harrison to a six-year, $51.75 million extension today, with $20 million guaranteed.

Also, the team lost Byron Leftwich to Tampa Bay. If they go into next season with only Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon backing up Big Ben, they're going to be in big trouble.

Charlie Batch has been a Pittsburgh media darling and a favorite of the DWFs in Steeler Nation for 7 years. The guy didn't even play a down in '02, '04, and '08, with only some scattered appearances in the other seasons, but somehow we're told to believe he's an indispensable part of the team.

And Dennis Dixon has proven nothing so far other than to be a wasted draft choice.

Ben Roethlisberger takes too much punishment not to have better backup QBs to help him out in 2009/10.Edited by: Van_Slyke_CF

NFL coaches sure do love their sumos. It must stem from the fact that they think these overweight "afflets" are more athletic than their white counterparts.

I stopped caring about the Steelers awhile ago...take away Big Ben and they are a sub .500 team and Tomlin doesn't look like the amazing coach the press makes him out to be.

Signing Max Starks to a long-term deal is a pathetic move for the future of the Steelers. Yes, they needed to clear up "cap room," but there must have been other ways to do it.

Maybe there is hope for the O-Line. The Steelers have signed 3rd round draft pick Kraig Urbik to a three-year deal. Hopefully, he'll be able to beat out the horrible, clueless Darnell Stapleton for the starting job this year, but golden boy Mike Tomlin probably won't even consider demoting Stapleton, no matter how bad he plays. Also, there is a white left tackle that is competing for Marvel Smith's spot. He should be able to beat out recently signed sumo Max Starks.

ben might have to retire early he has taken some brutal hits and it is all because of an inept offensive line.

According to NFL.com's transaction report, the Steelers have signed Alex Stepanovich, but they cut a white DT. Maybe Tomlin is finally getting the message of having white linemen. Nah, probably not.

Also, the Bengals released RBs Kenny Watson and J.D. Runnels.

Everyone saw this coming. The Steelers are already begining to phase out Keisel at DE. [IMG] Hood Earns Rotational role at DE

    3. The Steelers really like their first-round choice: Evander "Ziggy" Hood has already established himself in the rotation of defensive ends. If needed, he could grow into a nose tackle. Tomlin is using him as a backup at right and left defensive end. He's 6-3, 300 pounds and the only thing he lacks is experience.
