After the Jets picked a majority of white players in the 2006 NFL Draft, it appeared that new coach Eric Mangini was taking the team away from the coal black complexion it's had for a number of years now. Alas, such was not to be the case as the 2007 Jets are the blackest edition ever.

How bad is it? Try 2 white starters and but 13 white players on the roster, and four of them are backup tight ends. There will be no diversity in a city that supposedly celebrates it.

QB Chad Pennington is brainy and accurate and has what it takes to win games, but is constantly ridiculed for his lack of arm strength â€â€￾ "noodle-armed" seems to be the latest pejorative in vogue. Much better to hand the reins over to a "cannon-armed" prospect of a much darker hue who can rarely hit the side of a barn.

Actually, Pennington's backup is white, at least for now. Kellen Clemens, in his second year out of Oregon, will get his chance to play some as Pennington was injured in the '07 regular season opener. Good luck Kellen, you'll need it. And if you get injured in front of the home "fans," expect the classless white drunks to cheer just like they did when Pennington was hurt.

Second year high draft pick Nick Mangold is the starting center. Rookie backup Jacob Bender is the only other white o-lineman.

The Jets have five white tight ends, one of which doubles as the long snapper. The starter is black, the backups white â€â€￾ Sean Ryan, Joe Kowalewski, Jason Pociask, and long snapper James Dearth.

It's even bleaker on defense, with no white starters and just four white backups.

Second year safety Eric Smith out of Michigan State was reported during training camp to have earned a starting job, but not surprisingly that turned out not to be the case.

Brad Kassell and Cody Spencer are both linebackers and both from North Texas. Mike Devito is a rookie end out of Maine.

Have fun Jets fans rooting for this crappy team.

I live not even ten miles from Giants stadium in Jersey, and I STILL refuse to root for this African-abomination of a football team. I don't really have a "team" per se that I root for. I, more or less, just root for individual players. The closest I have come to supporting any team is probably the Patriots, and maybe the Colts. But right now, I just root for players (Dwight, Kasper, Jones (wherever he is), Welker, Giordano, Alstott (wherever he is), Evans, etc.) The Jets, however, will NEVER get my support until the collective skin-complexion of that team changes drastically fast.Edited by: Ground Fighter

The Jets for a long time were one of the whitest teams in the AFL and then the NFL. The Super Bowl III team was predominantly white with two white stars at WR (Maynard and Sauer), Joe Namath, and plenty of white starters on both sides of the ball. In the early and mid'80s they were the whitest team on defense, with the three white stars of the "Sack Exchange" and other white starters. The big change started about ten years ago and has gotten steadily worse. Starting Wayne Chrebet as a rookie in '95 was the last positive thing the Jets have done.

Schlegel was purged by Eric "The Black" Mangini and signed by the Bengals.

Getting rid of Schlegel is really going to hurt the Jets. For the two camps he was with the Jets, all he did was run around knocking people down. cut the guy anyway. What a bunch of baloney.

Eric Smith is expected to start at strong safety for the Jets while Erik Coleman recuperates from a concussion.

and unfortunately Cody Spencer is out for a year with an undisclosed illness...

Eric Smith staring. Sounds good to me.

I hadn't heard the Cody Spencer was ill.

I want the other QB in as soon as possible this year. I think he'll start by mid year.

Things are looking bad for my Jets, but there are some things that aren't so bad. Interestingly, they're in most games they play even though up to now they always seem to be able to find a way to lose in the end. They even tried hard to give their only win away (Miami).
They've got their bye week coming up and somehow I think they'll come out of that bye week better than they went into it. I also think they're going to ambush a good team down the stretch. Anyway, I like this new QB, Kellen Clemens. He really has quite an arm. Now if maybe his recievers could catch the ball and hold onto it once they've caught it, maybe something positive will come out of this lousy year after all.

Cool find, Backrow!

This was the one and only "genious" move by Eric Mangini this season (that is, should Ball ever get a spot on the gameday roster).

I'm not too worried about a guy like David Ball making a name for himself in the NFL. Have you guys ever read an interview with Ball? Unlike many other white WR's, he's confident, and most of all, HE BELIEVES IN HIMSELF!

Glad The Jets signed David Ball.

Sent a letter to Mangini to keep an eye out for Mike Haas. Who knows, with his receivers, he just might try to get Haas. Then again, with the Bears receivers, you'd think a guy like Haas would have gotten a shot 4-5 games ago. I think it's posible the Bears receivers have more drops than catches.

This is a decent sideways move for Ball as the Bears were never going to play both Ball and Hass -- and probably will never give Hass a chance.

Mangini has been a huge disappointment, going from a promising draft in '06 to reverting to a coal black roster this year. If his terrible team has made him "see the light" then Ball may get a chance. Otherwise. . .

Jets signed their first round pick (6th overall), Vernon Gholston to a $50 million contract, $21 million guaranteed. The guy is an DE/LB out of Ohio St. Supposed to be good, but somewhat lazy. We'll see.

Favre looked good in his Jets debut tonight against Washington. But poor Kellen Clemens -- his stats currently are 2 of 9, with 4 drops, all by those wonderfully gifted superior athletes.

The Patriots just picked up TE Jason Pociask who the Jets just cut the other day.

Belichek just sits there like a big Cheshire Cat and pounces on these guys when they get cut.

Pociask never had a chance with three black TE's in camp. H a god receiver and never got a cjhance with the Jets. Too bad.
