You think if the Jets had a white coach there might be a pretty concerted outcry from the media and fans for his head? Me too. How about in Arizona with the great job Denny Green is doing?

In New York, Herman Edwards wants a contract extension because he is faced with "another rebuilding effort." Hmm, wasn't this the year the Jets were supposed to be a Super Bowl contender? The loss of Chad Pennington doesn't come close to explaining the wretched performance by the team's offense and defense.ButJets owner Woody Johnson says Edwards is "performing fabulously."

I agree with the comment about Denny Green. But as far as Herm Edwards goes, I dont think a lot of what happened this season is entirely his fault. All of the media talking heads were going on about how Pennington is overrated, and this and that, but have you ever noticed that whenever he's been injured, the team hasnt won dick without him? Perhaps he wasnt the "overrated" and "lousy" (the medias labels for him, not mine) quarterback everyone thought he was. By the way, I think Pennington is a DAMN good quarterback, who has been unfairly ripped apart by the media (especially the media in New York) Do you think if he were black he would get the same treatment? probably not. Instead he would probably be worshipped as the second coming of Johnny Unitas ala Michael Vick. I've even heard rumors that the Jets might dump Pennington and pursue Vince Young (if he declares) If that happens, that will set the franchise back at least 5 years, and will all but seal Herm Edwards fate. Lets just hope he's smart enough not to give up on Penny just yet.

If it wasn't for Tony Dungy, the NFL's black head coaches would be having as bad a year as the leagues black quarterbacks.

Well I don't know about that, Penningtons last arm injury really could turn out to be a career ender. Anyhow when healthy Pennington is a good QB and it is the anti-White media that is the real problem.

If these rumors about Vince Young are true (this is the first time I have heard it but it doesn't surprise me) the Jets are going to have alot of other teams trying to get Young and would probably just be better off getting a good Free Agent QB. Drew Brees who is Franchised Tagged right now might be available and he actually is a pretty similar type to Pennington being very accurate but with only mediocre arm-strength. In the end though since we are talking about a New York Team diverstity will probably win out and they will somehow draft Young.

Who cares! This is the Jets we're talking about here. You know, Gang Green, Green Slime. If you come to NY or NJ you're in Giant territory. The Jets are nothing here compared to the Giants. Most Jets fans are closet fans, they don't even admit it. Fact is, the Jets have an excuse every year for why the stink. This exact same kind of talk about them has been going on since just after the Namath era.

Nice try, Rob.

The Bengals, with a black head coach, are 7-3 and tied for first
in their division. Marvin Lewis starts a white defensive back,
how many of your white "brothers" in the NFL coaching
fraterninty can say that?

The Bears, with a black head coach, are 7-3 and in first place in
their division. Lovie's Smith's superstar is a white man best
known for his near superhuman athletic ability, and when the
Sporting News -- white writers I'll bet -- called Urlacher the most
overrated player in the NFL, Smith told them to shove it.

Maybe the white athlete needs more black coaches.Edited by: GreatLakeState

Mike Alstott was a featured back for Dungy at times while for Gruden, at best he was short yardage specialist... plus Clark and Stokley are getting a lot of looks in Dungy's offense... while some white coaches like, say Reid (former o-lineman from BYU...) insist on making their teams as black as possible...

The white athlete DOES need more black coaches. I don't know where SteveB has been but he too would whole heartedly agree on this matter as well. Mike Tice, Mike Holmgren and Mike Sherman(uummm something about those Mike head coaches) are the #1 biggest caste system supporters. Dennis Green though is an exception and ranks right up there with the Mikes.

Urlacher was with the Bears well before Lovie Smith became head coach and Kaesviharn was with the Bengals before Marvin Lewis was hired. If black coaches are better disposed toward white players one would imagine Lewis would have moved Kaesviharn back to cornerback.

Unless a head coach is also the GM (very rare) and thus has close to total control over player movement and the players taken in thedraft, the roster is the result of more input than just his own. Most NFL teamskeep roughly the same black to white ratio year after year. The Colts before Dungy were one of the best as far as opportunity for whites and have stayed that way. The Cardinals were one of the worst and have stayed that way with Dennis Green. The Bengals and Bears were average to below average and have stayed that way with black coaches. The Browns improved noticeably under Crennel, but are also in the midst of a rebuilding project; most or all oftheir white starters on defense could easily be gone in a year or two.

The NFL is an inhospitable place for white players; black head coaches hardly make a noticeable dent in the overall equation.

Great Lake State your right, black head coaches arent doing as bad as black quarterbacks this year, though thats like the owners of the Olympia in 1912 saying they had a good year because they didn't sink like the Titanic did! This has been a disastrous year in the NFL for the Caste Systems black quarterback "athletes of the future". I agree with Don's post, or do you really think black coaches are in opposition to the Caste system?
