A White South African won the silver medal at the juniors. Jamiacan Dexter Lee won the gold. Lee has a natural slim look to him. I wonder what transformation Lee will have in the years to come....

World Youth champion Lee upsets older sprinters and secures World junior title

The latest battle in the "war of the sprints" between the top two nations was again won by Jamaica as Dexter Lee took victory in the men's 100m.

Last year Lee won the World Youth title, and here he upset the form book with a victory by 0.02 seconds in a time of 10.40. South Africa's Wilhem van der Vyver was second, with American Terrell Wilks, who was quickest in the semi-finals, winning bronze with 10.45.

Coming into the event, Lee was outside the 2008 top-10 rankings, which included five Americans. The smart money was on Wilks, Van Der Vyver or the other Jamaican, Yohan Blake, the bronze medallist two years ago.

However, by holding off a late charge from the South African, Lee helped continue the Jamaican dominance of the world sprint scene. Jamaica's Usain Bolt took the World record of compatriot Asafa Powell earlier this year and then the tiny Caribbean nation outdid the Americans with their respective times at their Olympic trials.

"It feels good to get one over on the Americans," said Lee, whose idol is Powell and who was introduced to sprinting by his older brother, also a sprinter. He was not short of confidence either. "I knew I could win this race, I'm not too surprised," he said.

"It's been my goal to be World junior champion and now my next big goal is to make the Olympic team one day," he added.

Lee's time was the slowest winning clocking in any of the 12 editions of these championships. But Lee said after running into a wind of 0.8m/s on a cool night: "The conditions were very poor, that's why the winning time was slow."

Van Der Vyver, who came into the race with a PB of 10.30, set at altitude, said: "My start was better than expected and after that everything came together well."

This kid is pretty talented. I like how he handled the pressure in the finals. Morne Nagel even has mentioned his name in a couple of interviews as a guy to watch in the future. I really think it does hur though for the south african sprinters that they have so many races at altitude, that it is hard to see where they are at. They need to get in more int'l meets. They also have their summer like Australia when everyone else has their winter. How do you peak twice a year for outdoors? That is almost impossible to do.

I think the kid has a chance though. He's only 18 and he runs the 200 as well. Another young sprinter to keep an eye on.

In the 200, a german kid made the finals. Do you guys know how he did? I think he had the fastest or 2nd fastest p.b. of any of the kids in the final.

I didn't know that Lemae was white. France rarely has white athletes in any sport these days.

So we took two out of the three medals. Very nice. Over the last several years, we have had alot of white talent in these junior championships. I want to see more of these kids continue to develop so we can see them win medals on the big stage.

I caught Lamae winning the 200m by chance when flicking the channels from South African provincial rugby to England v South Africa in the cricket. I could not believe my eyes! An indigenous white French athlete storming to victory. He is an athletic monster! Unfortunatly I missed Van Der Vyver.

This points to more signs that steroids are working better on blacks than whites. Whites continue to be very competitive outside of America (which has the world's strongest caste system by far, to the denial of Maximus and his caste clown posses) in the 100 and 200 meters.

This shows that whites are not far behind at all. But Then there always seems to be a plateau where the elite whites get stuck in the 10-10.2 range and then the elite blacks keep dropping their PBs down to the 9.72-10 flat range range. So just maybe when the runners aren't fully developed yet, looking thin and don't appear to be juicing whites have a shot. But when Sprinters start to have the physeic of Asafa Powell and find the best sponsors, get money and find deals on undetectable drugs, whites can no longer compete. There appears to be more evidence to this theory than just the recent history of track being very different for whites since 1988.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I was hoping one of you guys would sit down and do an in-depth analysis on the "implications" of the World Junior results. At many levels, it is fascinating. A few thoughts come to mind:
1. Caucasians doing well in events in which they have few star-status role models. This is remarkable to me, and I think that this hints at a big story of how the USA has caused a big scew in athletics.
2. The variety of human genetics doing well. For instance, in the men's 100 and 200 m finals, blacks (from the Americas) and caucasians did well, but also note the boy from Sri Lanka, and the two kids with Arabic names (dark skinned, but maybe not West African).
3. Caucasians doing well even though it seems to be the case that they mature more slowly than equatorial peoples.
Back to #1: Where do these caucasian World Junior stars end up in 5 years?
Back to #2: Where are the native West Africans in these finals? By what means do they begin to be successful in competitions in the following years? (I think the answer to this one has much to do with USA coaches and blindly recruiting based on skin color.)
Back to #3: Why don't the caucasians make relatively more progress as their physical maturation catches up with their peers from the equatorial regions? (My guess is that this is primarily socio-economic.)

Yuri stated something a while ago which makes a bunch of sense to me, which I will restate as I understand it: if you have a government/economic system that has many workers such that they can create a wealthy "big teat"; and a much smaller subgroup that does not contribute to the teat but has few options but to suck on it, then you will produce superstar athletes. (Note that this subgroup HAS to be small, otherwise it will suck out too many resources, and then the teat will shrivel and then this subgroup will need to pursue other options to survive.) Perhaps these Junior athletes are still on a somewhat equal footing across the world --- more heavily dependent upon Mom and Dad, and less dependent on coaching and chemists. When they get a bit older, the might and wealth of 200 million workers is behind the US-coached athletes (including many recruited from overseas, largely based upon "potential" -- which seems to be an attribute of skin color in the recruiters' minds). The non-US athletes and non-US-coached athletes probably indirectly benefit by having access to the excellent US chemists.
I looked through the 100m heats of the Olympics in 1956 and 1960, and it is noticeable that there is racial mix at the senior level in those days (caucasians, Caribbean, Japanese, even east Africans).

We should post some pics from the finals. I know just in the 200 meters world junior champs finals, 2 of the 3 medalists were whites including the winner. When is the last time that happened in a world championships or olympics? Also in the 110 high hurdles finals, another white won the gold and we took 3rd or 4th, and several other spots. I need to look it up. The russian hurdler was unbeaten. The 100 wasn't as well represented with the boys but we still won the silver medal. He could have won if he had 2 more meters or if he had started better. Just a few examples off the top of my head.

You make some interesting points. I have always belived that if more athletes from Austalia, Germany, England, Slovenia, etc. trained here, they would acheive greater success. To go even beyond that, it whites from America fell in love with the sprints, we would see some olympic and world champs like Wariner even in the 100 and 200 meters.

I believe too many people give up on white kids too quick because they tend to progress slower as they are teenagers. They can make up for it later on as their bodies catch up but too many give up the sport or are directed into other events or sports.Edited by: white lightning

Christophe Lemaitre came got 2nd place at the French Championships yesterday.
His time was 10.26, and he is 18 years old.
France having a white sprinter doing so well is a very very rare thing.

Two good white sprinters from France would be a miracle.
This is the same guy who won the World Junior 200m championships. Still even one good young guy from France is impressive.
His 10.26 is the 3rd fastest junior time in the world this year.

I'm shocked. As you guys know, France is as bad if not worse than the US when it comes to ignoring the white talent int their country. Finally a kid gets a chance to shine. Hopefully he will inspire alot more people and open some eyes. What a talent! Pickering was only a little faster at 18 running a 10.22! This is very exciting given the time and how young he is. We will have to start a thread for him in the near future.

Well maybe I was wrong about France!?
I was looking for Lemaitre's race on youtube and found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzJpjrhM68I

It says France 100m finals...maybe it's their junior championships?...but it shows three 100m races, and all 3 are won by whites, including Lemaitre.
Frankly I didn't even think whites in France still participated in sports, let alone excel.
Cool.

Nobody remembers Guy Drut who won the olympic gold in 1976 in the 110h. he smoked a pack of cigarettes a day and drank a litre of wine every night and still won olympic gold.

in fact no ******* male has ever won a gold for france and only mj perec ( a mulatta from the french caribbean) won gold on the womens side and thats it for all the immigrants from the overseas areas controlled by france.

england and france (at least the big cities) are the toilet bowl of all europe, with cattle cars of non whites arriving daily and they fail to win at much of anything>

i finally found some pictures of lee> he has a lean body and a huge water bloated face> people with slender frames dont hold water in the face like that unless they are on a power steroid, so i do think that jamaica has some designer steroids that cant be detected yet.

This French kid appears to overtake and kick in strong during the final 40m of both the 100m and 200m,an extremely positive sign as most cauc. hopefuls tend to fade at the end.

Lemaitre has excellent closing speed at both distances. Excellent point JTJTJT. He just needs to be more consistant in all phases of the race and smooth it out a little. His upside potential is scary at only 18 years of age. The kid from South Africa also showed excellent closing speed and would have won the 100 final if it were about 1-2 meters longer. He was closing like a freight train.

Pickering has always been know for his closing speed. As a junior and into the senior levels, his ability to chase other sprinters down has been remarkable. Even last year he had some terrible starts, yet won most of his races and raced several sub 10.15 times in bad weather. I don't know what is going on this season other than injuries as he is not finishing races with that closing kick. He is really struggling. Let's hope he can still make a good showing at the olympics. The bright side is that he is still only 21. I just want to see him finish the year strong and bust a new p.b. He has actually been alot slower this season which isn't good. His coach and Craig need to get him back on track. Good luck to Lemaitre and Pickering in the Olympics.
