Cotto vs Margarito

Just like I thought, Margarito ate all of Cotto's shots and kept coming. Cotto literally was out of gas in the 9th round. Credit to him for even being able to stand up to shots that would have broken any one else down. Congrats to Margarito. De La Hoya would get hurt BAD if he fought Margarito. DLH isn't as quick as he used to be. I see DLH fighting Pacquiao if Pacquiao can't fight Hatton. I am not sure if Cotto will ever be the same. He looked mentally worn out and physically spent. That fight literally took days off of his life. As for Margarito, he should fight african american Paul Williams. Paul was his only real defeat since becoming a world class fighter. The only reason Paul won is because he threw even more punches than Margarito (though none really looked like they hurt) and Paul has a decent chin. The rematch could be different. But for now congrats to 2 honorable warriors in Margarito and Cotto Edited by: mrjohnnynofear

mrjohnnynofear, your right, Cotto will never be the same. I fear that he will be damage goods like Meldrik Taylor after the first Chavez fight back in 1990!

I really respect Cotto, but "Tony" showed his manhood and took all that Cotto could muster, and just beat him down. I rarely feel sorry for a fighter, but in this case I felt for Miguel. A great fighter and class act.

Congrats to Margarito and on to the rematch with Pual Williams.

That was a great fight.

It's easy to see why the cowardly Floyd Mayweather refused to fight (then WBO titleholder) Margarito in 2006 for $8 million, and instead chose to fight the light punching, past-prime Baldomir for less money. If they ever fought, Floyd would eventually wilt under Margarito's relentless pressure and be stopped like Cotto was.

When I was watching the fight, I thought the announcers (Lampley, Steward, Kellerman) were giving no credit to Margarito. Sure Cotto was landing blows but Margarito was hitting him too. I can understand that HBO had a stake in the fight with Cotto but does it have to be so blatant. I was thinking maybe it was me but the boxing boards are buzzing with it. As much as it pains me to say it....Mayweather was right about the HBO bias to a point (though I still think he is stupid to say a "slave contract"). Did anyone else here think there was a HBO bias who watched the PPV?

The only one I found to be biased was Max Kellerman.

Every once in a while, he would make some negative comment against Margarito, something like he has will but no skill. Kellerman is usually unfairly negative about Mexican and white boxers, and makes black boxers out to be more talented than they really are. After the Calzaghe vs. Hopkins fight, Kellerman said on his New York radio show that Hopkins won the fight and was robbed.

But Lampley and Steward recognized Margarito's excellent offensive skills. In Margarito's fight with Golden Johnson, listen to what Lampley says:
