Wariner just ran 44.82 to win his first 400 of the year. He had a chest infection and was having a hard time breathing apparently.

Wariner getting the 400 meter record would do a lot of good to dispel the "goofy white guy" myth. We really need Wariner to do this. The only explosion event record a white has in Track and Field right now is Jonathan Edwards in the Triple Jump.

The running and jumping events where whites have traditionally performed well and will have a shot at T&F records in coming years IMO are; High Jump, 400 meter, 800 meter, and 1500 meter. We need whites to get the record in all 4, to counter the ever expanding emasculation of the white man.

I'd like to see a white get the record in the 110 hurdles or 400 meter hurdles as well, but at least it's a Chinese man and not a black that has the 110 hurdle record. Anything that dispels the "black athletic power" myth is good.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I think that pole vault, javelin and discus throw are explosion events too.I think if Wariner breaks the record 400 meter the media will say he is an exception blah blah blah

Technically a white has the 1500 record as Hicham is Caucasian. Genetic wise I consider him white, I just wouldn't say he is white in a North American context.

No disrespect, but I disagree. The latest DNA research is pointing to what is known as the Paleolithic Continuity theory. It is now believed that humans had migrated far into Europe from the Middle East as early as 45,000-35,000 years ago.

This is also supported by linguistic evidence that European languages can be broken down into 3 main groups Latin languages, Celtic and Slavic. It is thought that during the early migration into Europe three sub groups of Europeans formed formed Slavic, Latin and Celtic peoples. All present day languages in Europe sprang from those original three sub-groups of people that were separated from each other by the ice shelfs during the early migration. So technically speaking Europeans are less closely related to Middle Easterners than we originally thought.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I don't want to get into debate on this too much but Wilkepedia states the following:Demographics
Ethnolinguistic groups in Morocco.
Ethnolinguistic groups in Morocco.

Main article: Demographics of Morocco

Morocco is the third most populous Arab country, after Egypt and Sudan.[23] Most Moroccans are Sunni Muslims of Arab, Berber, or mixed Arab-Berber stock. About three-quarters of all present-day Moroccans are of Berber descent, while Arabs form the second largest ethnic group.[citation needed] The Arabs invaded Morocco in the seventh century and established their culture there.

There is no significant genetic difference between Moroccan Arabs and Moroccan non-Arabs (i.e. Berbers). Thus, it is likely that Arabization was mainly a cultural process without genetic replacement.[24] However, according to the European Journal of Human Genetics, North-Western Africans were genetically closer to Iberians and to other Europeans than to sub-Saharan Africans.[25]... Notice I didn't say that the previous world recorder holder Morceli is Caucasian as he clearly has sub-Saharan ancestry. Most Berbers themselves consider themselves white. To me this is similar to if a Mexican or Ethnic Mexican is white. Edited by: white is right

Well if El-Garruge, or however you spell his name, is mostly Berber and not Arab that may be correct. There are theories that the Berbers immigrated to North Africa from Spain or Portugal within the last 10,000 years if I recall correctly. But my point was on Arabs, not Berbers. I wish I could find the Wikipedia article I read on Europeans being broken down into three main sub-groups Slavic, Latin and Celtic (which also shows that various people in different regions of Europe may not have had a common ancestor for 30,000-40,000 years). I couldn't remember the name of the article, but I got to it somehow from links from the Paleolithic Continuity theory and Brian Sykes and Marco Aliou's research.

20.3 is good. I think he has to get down to 20.1 on a regular basis if he wants to go 43.1 in the 400.Edited by: nevada

Wariner also needs better competitors to push him. Wariner is so dominant right now that no one seems to be a serious challenger to him. To break the record Wariner would have to push himself to the absolute limit. W/o any serious challengers I get the sense that Wariner is so confident in his victory that he thinks running it in around 44 flat will get him the win. Even w/ how good Wariner is he is not running at his "absolute top speed" the whole race, no 400 meter runner can do this.

I'm hopeful that Wariner will break the record in Beijing on the biggest stage for the whole world to see. Realistically though, Jeremy could still break the record up until the 2016 Olympics. Michael Johnson broke the record at 31 years old and Wariner will only be 24 at these Olympics.

Wariner ran at the Texas Relays this weekend on the 4 x 400 Meter Relay. He was timed in the anchor leg anywhere from a 43.4 to a 43.6! He is in the shape of his life. I just hope he doesn't peak too soon with the Olympics being around 5 months away. I still wish he would have stayed with Coach Hart who I consider to be one of the greatest Track Coach's to ever live! Regardless, Wariner is on the right track so far. I want him to get the world record and the gold medal. That would put him in a category all by himself and I doubt anyone could ever duplicate these feats.

I always thought it a little odd that Wariner is both the whitest and also the skinniest runner at most of his races.

It sort of gives me the impression that he isn't taking performance enhancing drugs, or, if he is, he isn't taking as many of them as the other runner.

Well in the 400 meter it is 3/4 fast twitch muscles/speed and 1/4 endurance. Steroids would probably help you a little bit in the 400 meter, but no where near as much as in the 100 or 200 meter. There is more a chance that Michael Johnson was on the roids b/c he was just as much a 200 meter guy as a 400 meter and had a much bigger build than Wariner.

IMO I don't think Michael Johnson was on roids though if Wariner isn't b/c they were both coached by the honest coaching legend Clyde Hart. I would think if Michael Johnson was roiding, Hart would have found out about it and by this point Jeremy Wariner would know as well and be tempted to do the same.

I am faithful that neither are/were juicers. And if Wariner is clean and he knows Johnson isn't from talks w/ Hart, he should let this be known in the spirit of competitiveness. It is non-sense to protect a friend who is cheating toward the same goals you are trying to achieve. (friends don't do that) We want a level playing field!

Now that he is not training with Hart anymore, I am only looking for him to win the 400 in Beijing. If he goes 43.1 it would be awesome, but I'm not counting on it anymore.

Wariner's new coach is a Baylor assistant named Michael Ford.

From a recent USATODAY article:

Wariner is now coached by Baylor University assistant Michael Ford and said he is very happy with his training in the run up to the Olympic trials this summer.

"My training is going great. I'm exactly where I want to be," Wariner said.

Ford said a big reason Wariner picked him as his coach was that he wouldn't change much during training. He thinks Wariner is ready to set the record.

"Every year is a year to shoot for a record. He's set that as his goal for this year," Ford said. "I told him when I took over, 'You put a lot of pressure on me to get that world record.' I think mentally he's there."

Sounds good to me.

On another note, Hillary just called upon el shrub to boycott the Olympics over the Tibet mess. Can Billary even point to Tibet on a map? Nice to see she's willing to throw away the effort of our greatest athletes in order to gain a little traction. The Games were awarded to Beijing five years ago, where was she then?

Oh, wait a minute looks like she only wants us to boycott the opening ceremony now. Pfft. Edited by: Poacher

The US will never boycott another Olympic games. The last boycott was an absolute disaster for american sports. I met people who made the 1980 team. They said it was a total nightmare.

The full US team will be in Beijing.Edited by: nevada

44.56 last weekend. Fastest time in the world so far. He's supposed to be at the Penn relays today. Not sure what event he's running.

Wariner ran a 43.88 leg in the 4x400 meter USA vs. The World race at the Penn Relays as USA wins in an overall time of 2:59.71.

Here are the splits:

1 USA -b United States Blue 2:59.71

LaShawn Merritt (44.9), Wallace Spearmon (45.5), Darold Williamson (45.47), Jeremy Wariner (43.88)

If Wariner can repeat as 400meter champion, that would be a rather historic achievement.

It would also be nice if Wariner and Andrew Rock medalled 1-2 in the 400meter, though that's a bit of a long shot.

In the latest article about Wariner, he is predicting that he will break the 400 meter record very soon. He says it will happen this summer and he also states that he cannot be beat. He has already declared himself to be the 400 meter gold medal winner at the olympics. You have to love his confidence.

Jeremy also said that he will run a 200 meters this weekend in Qatar and he expects to run a very fast time. Wariner will run multiple 200 meter races this summer to build up his speed more for his assault on Michael Johnson's world record in the 400. I am curious as to if he can set some new personal bests in the deuce. He hasn't improved a whole lot since high school in that event as he has focused on the 400.

Wariner, a Caucasian, winning the Olympic 400 meter championship twice and breaking the world record will be awsome. I wonder how the press will report it. Will they dig deeply trying to uncover his African ancestry? Will it be hailed as a breakthrough for the white athlete?

Personally, I think that it will usher in an era of the great Caucasian 400 meter runner as talented white sprinters see the distinct possibility that they, too, can be an Olympic champion.

Somehow I get the feeling that the sports media would love for Wariner to fall flat on his face and fail -- or better still, go away -- so that they won't have to address a lot of issues that contradict the status quo.

The american sports media has no opinion on anybody in track. They don't cover it or care about it. They are dangerously close to dismissing everybody in Olympic sports as guys who couldn't play real sports.

Wariner is widely respected elsewhere. The sports media in other nations will be thrilled with a world record 400 meters.

I dunno... Maurice Greene and Marion Jones were media darlings in 99/00, until their massive betrayal of the sport, and to a different degree, the country.

It's only a matter of time before Carl Lewis admits that he too took PEDs.... and wishes he were a woman.
