According to Joe Kowalski, this guy is the best white American heavyweight. He is very big and very powerful. This is from Fightnews.com:

Hall of fame promoter Bob Arum announced the signing of hard-hitting heavyweight contender 'Big Sky' Tye Fields (36-1,33 KOs) to a promotional contract with Top Rank at a press conference today in Las Vegas. Tye will fight at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Thursday, Jan. 25 on VERSUS network.

Great news!

Tye Fields will be on Versus fight night again this Thursday Dec 20 against another white fighter, Chris Koval, from Youngstown, Ohio.

I would prefer Fields fight a contender, but his management seems to be holding him back. He fights rather infrequently, only once every six months or so. Fields, who's already 32, may or may not be a top heavyweight - I've read from some that he is, and from some that he's not - but sadly, we will probably never know for sure.

Fields has great size and great endurance. For a madn 6'10" and around 270 to be able to throw 100 punches a round is awesome endurance. He is not not a particularly hard puncher despite his 35 KO's in 40 fights he has one loss in which he was KO'd. He is not an accurate puncher against Kendrick Releford he landed196/852 23%. Nor does he have the one punch KO power of Vladimir Klitschko but he has won two of his last six fights by RTD so he may be a heavy puncher,he also won 1 by a 2nd roung KO and two more by TKO in the 3rd and fourth rounds respectively. He is however the best American white heavy I have seen at this time . The Dec. 20 fight will be interesting i that he is being trained by Emmanuel Steward. I hope Steward can dramatically improve his jab.
he is not rated as a top 20 heavy by IBF, WBA, WBC or WBO.

Oh yes he is also alety and has a 86" reach

I disagree. From what I've seen Mike Mollo is, and Joe Mesi too, if he can come back to where he was. I was impressed with Fields when I first saw him, but that was years ago, and for whatever reason he's been in the pros for nine years now and seems to be going no place fast.

Fields KO1 Koval.

Tye needs to step it up. His promoter said Hasim Rahman turned down the fight. I'd like to see Fields-Briggs.

Tye is also my choice for best white American heavyweight. I guess a fight with Mesi, Mollo or Chapman could help settle that question.

Have to thrown in Minto too. If all of those guys fought each other it could be a good tourney(it won't happen though).

Oh, I forgot about that fight, and it's over already.

"Tye needs to step it up."

He never does, though.

Mesi cannot be seriously considered a top heavyweight. He hardly fights, has a history of serious injury, and is not that impressive when he does fight. I like Mesi but he will never be a top contender.

Baby Joe Mesi was the number one contender before his head injury, which he sustained from Jirov's rabbit punch.Edited by: Alpha Male

Another fight for Tye Fields and -- surprise! -- another B-level guy. On 3/13 he will fight Josue Blocus in Las Vegas. Versus will probably televise the fight and Fields will likely score an early KO over Blocus.

Blocus is a black Frenchmen (I'm starting to think the French are the least athletic whites on the planet as almost all the French athletes are black). He is 16-2 and fought in the 1996 Olympics. But he has not beaten anyone of note and is 38.

Tye has been fighting the b-level guys for 5 years now and never steps up. He should be fighting Briggs, Rahman, Mesi or Golota. But he -- or his management -- never make that leap. Shame as I think he would beat these guys.

Josue Blocus backed out of the fight, and so now Tye Fields will be fighting a different negro opponent, Roderick Willis.

This will be televised by Versus (in Canada, by The Fight Network) tomorrow evening at 9 pm Eastern time.

I don't really hold a lot of these fights against Tye. I remember hearing he was pursuing a Rahman fight, but it fell through. I don't think many people want to fight him. On fightnews though, he said he hopes this is a the year!

Interesting how right off the bat these two terrible versus commentators begin by saying this fight looks like a setup. Something along the lines of, "Willis only found out about this fight two day ago". They fail to mention that the previous opponent backed out, instead making it seem like this was done on purpose. These two guys are ALWAYS very disrespectful to Tye Fields. I hope Big Tye wins by 1st round KO!

6/28 with Rahman is the plan according to Arum.

I would give Tye a decent chance (45%) of beating Peter but almost no chance of beating Wlad.

I was very impressed with Arums postfight comments on both Tye, and white fighters.

Fields gets another good win over a black opponent. I hope he get's Rahman in June. Of course both he and Arum want it, so if the fight doesn't go through, we know who to blame.

Boxing is the last bastion of politically incorrect thinking. Arum just stated what most people think or snicker to their buddies. I suspect the fight doesn't get made as Rahman will duck him for a bigger payday. At this point Rahman can still get 6 figures to be a foil to a Haye type and get more cash. I would love to see Fields fight Areolla or somebody like that.

What did Arum say? He has made some very un-PC comments about the difficulty of getting black fighters to face a white opponent.

Arum said "He is big, white and everybody likes to demean white fighters, but after Kelly Pavlik you can't do that anymore".
