Hood's hoops stock has risen drastically this summer
By Jody Demling

Madisonville High School junior-to-be Jon Hood said he recently took a
peek at some state basketball rankings for the Class of 2009 and saw he
was listed at No. 7.

And then a funny thing happened when the new Rivals.com national
rankings came out last week: The 6-foot-6 Hood was No. 39.

Hood, a guard, became one of the hottest recruiting targets in the class
this summer based on his play with the Nashville Celtics AAU team.

"I'm flattered to be No. 39, but a ranking doesn't get you anywhere," said
Hood, who averaged 19 points a game last season. "For me, it just makes
me want to work and play harder. I just tried to play hard and do what I
could to get better and help the team this summer.

"At times, it was shocking to see all of these coaches come out to watch
our team and, more specifically, more of them to come out to watch me."

Hood said he has scholarship offers from Mississippi, Georgia, Western
Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Valparaiso, Murray State and Morehead
State. Duke, Florida, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Tennessee and
Southern Illinois have shown interest.

Hood said Duke and Florida want him to visit this fall and that he "hasn't
heard much at all from Kentucky and nothing from Louisville."

Added Hood: "I will wait until probably the end of next summer before I
commit just to see how everything plays out."
