Thanks for the updates fellows. Always informative and I like to hear about Tortu. I like to hear about Alica Schmidt too for entirely different reasons not that I am obsessed or anything. ;)

I forgot that we have two more diamond league races this month. One is in a couple of days in Rome. Filippo Tortu is entered in the 100 meters in a very stacked field. Deniz Almas of Germany is also in the race. Maybe we will see some fireworks but the field
is so stacked it will be tough to just finish in the top 3. Maybe if all goes well we can see some really fast times. Just not sure if Tortu will be rested enough as he just raced. Hope he will be fine. Tortu & Almas have the 2 fastest european sprint times of the summer
so far and the season is just about over. Can they do it again? I will be watching for sure! Good luck to both of these fine sprinters who are only 22 and 23 years of age. They will be medal threats in the olympics next summer!

Filippo Tortu runs another sub 10.10 but finished in 3rd place. Tortu is still the best sprinter we have worldwide at the moment and he is only 22 years of age. He will hit his peak in another 4 to 6 years. I predict he will be in the 9.80s in the coming years. I think his biggest weakness is speed endurance which will come as his body continuees to mature. He had a nice season compared to last year despite not going sub 10 this summer. The future is bright for this italian stallion!

The highest vault ever achieved outdoors. Duplantis goes over 6.15 meters! This is the greatest pole vaulter ever and he is in his early 20's!

Karsten Warholm with the fastest recorded average times in a season in the history of track & field over the 400 meters hurdles! Warholm is so close to the world record! It's destined to happen in the near future! Absolute legend!

Quote from Filippo Tortu after todays race in Rome.

"This is how this strange season ends, with a 10.09 in the @goldengala_roma

A great race that will definitely give me the charge for the next

Thank you all for following me with so much affection and passion, you will soon see

I'm a little shocked we haven't had anyone posting about this new young millineal world record holder in the pole vault. This is epic. Like CMac going 1000/1000 in the nfl but even at a higher level.

We are seeing some of the greatest athletes ever and they just happen to be white. Yes the U.S. Media will ignore it as it's not a black athlete but this is world records being broken that will probably never be shattered. Please give this kid some props as he is incredible.

Warholm now has 6 of the 12 fastest times in world history. To put that in perspective, no other athlete appears on the list more than once.

in watching the race where Hunt nicks Schippers(who eased up at the wire) at the wire it hits me how poor these times are all across the board. 11.20 is the winning time which is slow for this level of athletes. Yah I know it is a season to forget because of all the BS being force fed to world and most of the athletes look at it as a training season at best.....but 11.42 for Schippers??????? That is not even a good time for her training runs.....

On a positive note: Hunt is going to be a top level 110/200m in the next few years.......

Someone forgot to tell Elaine Thompson the 2020 program ....
Dafne has put in a decent 150m a few weeks back to comfortably beat the Netherlands no.1/200 runner this year, Lieke Klavers, but seems not too bothered in this meaningless season.
She looks happy enough but to me it doesn't mean much to her. An 11.26 and 22.91 are all she's got to give right now.

I happened to catch this race tonight on the Olympic channel. Couldn't miss Tortu in his bright yellow top. Once again he got out of the blocks as if half asleep. I am no expert but his head was down for what seemed like too long a time and he didn't straighten up as quick as the other sprinters. Is improving a start one of the more difficult facets of sprinting to improve upon? He could use some tutoring in that area. His times would dramatically improve if he can clean up this area. At least that is how I see it.

The start and drive phase out of the blocks are very important. In a 60 meter race, you have very little chance of ever coming back with a horrible start. Over 100 meters you have more time but that is only against average competition. At the elite
level where Tortu races he has very little margin for error. He does need to improve his start out of the blocks and also smooth out his transition into the drive phase. He is getting a little better but has a ways to go. He still also lacks efficient speed
endurance as you can tell but his 200 meters personal best time only being in the 20.30's. He needs to improve all 3 areas to run sub 10's consistantly and to get closer to 20 seconds over 200 meters. I'm more worried about the sub 10's than sub 20's.
If Filippo Tortu can do both distances like Lemaitre & Guliyev great but my gut feeling is he is more of a pure 100 meters and 4 x 100 relay guy overall. The kid is so fun to watch. At 22 he is not close to his prime yet!

Doha Diamond League took place today and I missed Amy Hunt run the 100. She placed 6th with a time of 11.43. Little ticked because I have never seen her run. Interestingly Payton Chadwick placed 7th with a 11.51 time. Chadwick did win the 100H with a 12.78 time. Made it look easy although Nadine Visser who had been dominating of late wasn't there.

Yousef Karam was 2nd in the 400 with a 45.72 time. And "old timer" Christophe Lamaitre placed 3rd in the 200 with a 20.68 time. He got off to a slow start.

Not positive but this might be the last track event of the year?

Happy to see another guy posting on track & field more. We appreciate it shadowlight. It probably is the last major track meet of the year as the diamond league in Eugene, Oregon was canceled in a few weeks due to covid. I would say it was canceled
due to the stupid leftist democrats that run their states like dictators. If Oregon & Oregon St. can play football & basketball soon, why can't you have a track meet? Follow the money trail there.

Lemaitre looks to be just about done unless he can find the fountain of youth somewhere. He just hasn't seemed to have the desire to train hard enough to compete with olympians anymore. He had a great career despite him only being world
class for 4 or 5 years. Double European Gold Medalist over 100 & 200 meters and medals at the olympics and world championships putting him in the top 3 in the world in the sprints at that time. Life time bests of 9.92 and 19.80 are also outstanding.
We just wish he had the desire to be the best as his genetics were similar to Bolt. Maybe it's good he didn't sell out his values to cheat to become the fastest. He has never tested positive for anything and is clean as a whistle. Christophe Lemaitre ran
those times just from natural ability and very little weight lifting or supplements. I enjoyed the ride while it lasts. He will probably compete one more year with the olympics being next summer in Japan.

Terrific summary of a touchstone athlete. It is difficult to stay on top at a high level in track (some do but most don't) and in the scheme of things Christophe avoided being a one or two year wonder. I applaud his accomplishments and enjoyed his big moments. And keeping dignified by not resorting to drugs.

in reference to Tortu's start I agree it is the weakest part of his race, in the blocks one needs to be weight on front leg with trail leg against the block ready to push off and come forward without toe slewing/dragging, lead arm needs to come up and out trail arm drives as well. Doing all this in the first split second of your start without false starting or mistiming your weight transfer/shift is difficult to say the least. Some sprinters keep head down in drive phase far too long, some not long enough. Quite possibly this has been picked up as a youth runner and hasn't broke the bad habit. I coach the kids I train to start with a paper towel cardboard roll under their chin then as their head comes up at designated meter mark they allow it to fall away..

Hate to say it but on starting form I have to say one of the very best is drug cheat Justin Gatlin(say what you will).

As a masters aged sprinter myself, my start and drive phase was/is my best part of my 60/100m, my relaxation is okay but lengthening ones stride(I struggle at) is crucial to carrying speed as far as possible or to say slowing down slower than others in the race is as just as important, something that Lemaitre used to do well allowing him to overcome his slow starts.

Once Tortu masters these phases he will be a force to recon with....

The season is basically over, and it is very surprising to find that the top 3 long jumpers this year were neither black or white.
Two jumpers from China and one from Japan, account for the longest jumps this year.
This has likely never happened before in the history of T&F.

8.36 +0.3 Jianan WANG China (27ft, 5-1/8 inches)
8.33 +0.5 Changzhou HUANG China (27ft, 4 inches)
8.29 -0.6 Yuki HASHIOKA Japan (27ft, 2-3/8 inches)

you can add 2 "Australian" Europeans to the list if you want.
Jack Hale has legal 10.10 and 10.12 this year.
Rohan Browning has a legal 10.16 while running within himself in the heat, followed by a final time at the same meet (to beat Hale) with 10.06 (+2.2).
A shame that a flukey few minutes of slightly over the limit wind prevented a legal 10.07 or so.
