The country of Scotland has had a massive positive effect on the world. The people of Scotland have produced tremendous geniuses that have drastically changed the world for the better. We should all be thankful to the Scots for their contributions in creating the modern world.

The huge impact of the work of the following Scots is obvious.

John Logie Baird invented the television. He invented it in his kitchen.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.

Alexander Bain invented the fax machine.

James Watt invented the modern steam engine which sparked the industrial revolution.

Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. He saved countless lives.

The Scots invented golf, a game enjoyed around the globe.

David Brewster invented the kaleidoscope which has sparked the imagination of children.

Scotland has produced great and influential writers.

Robert Burns is best known for his poetry and "the best laid plans of mice and men."

Walter Scott wrote romantic adventure novels.

Elizabeth MacKintosh greatly influenced the field of mystery writing. Her novel The Daughter of Time (written under the pseudonym Josephine Tey) combined reality with fictional characters to create a new subgenre. A recent example of this subgenre is Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose.

Robert Louis Stevenson is best known for Dr Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, A Child's Garden of Verses and Treasure Island but he was also an outstanding short story writer.

Arthur Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes. These stories helped advance criminology even though they were fiction.

Imagine what the world would be like without the accomplishments of the Scots.

The Scots are a good example of how white people have enriched and inproved the world.
