wow, what a great happy-ending to this feel-good story...

"If any of them earned a chance to carry the football as much as Hester did last week as a tailback, it's a safe bet they'll probably run more than a few times behind Hester the fullback."

He's the starting HB, but certainly isn't getting the carries of your usual one. 8 for 64 and a TD this last game though, certainly playing like he warrants more carries. Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I agree Tough J. Riggins but I am officially getting even more worried. Hester looked good but Keiland Williams looked just as good if not better, going 7 for 126 with 2 TD's. Can't take anything from Keiland, he finally played a good game. I just hope they don't take more carries away from Hester as he has been reliable, consistent and is more versatile.

I'm hoping for Hester to kick it up another notch next week!Edited by: mrjohnnynofear

Keiland Williams is good though I admit. I looked at his Scout.com profile. However, the third string guy Cedric? Scott sucks his 40 time is 4.66 (I'm sorry, but black guys who can't crack 4.6 and are listed as 4 star recruits piss me off, b/c a white would never be) So he is slower than Hester (4.6) and surely can't be as powerful, Hester is a beast. Lets hope they only use Williams as a complimentary scat back, and don't give other carries to anyone but Hester.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I agree, I just hope they don't squeeze any more carries out of Hester and give more to Williams. Scott hasn't proven anything to me either and if anything they should use him to be a FB for Hester/Williams/Holliday/Murphy but what are the chances of that happening

Does anyone agree with me that Owen Schmidt would be a better starting RB than Hester if they were in the same situation? I am really getting pissed off about Owen's situation. Owen had almost a 7YPC average last year for West Virginia running as a FB in power situations. Schmidt is a beast and is getting royally screwed.
I want to hear what you guys think...who's better Schmidt or Hester?

I agree Tough J. I just posted in the Owen Schmitt fourm. I think Owen would tear it up at LSU. It stinks for Owen because Noel Devine has taken his carries. And to be honest, Devine's numbers are amazing and he will most likely end up with the Freshman of the year honors. But Owen has been there all along putting up great numbers too but they forget about him all of a sudden. Owen would be running wild at LSU also. Schimitt would do better at LSU right now because he can do all of the stuff Hester does, just a bit better (rush, receive, block, ect.).

i agree. Hester is a powerful runner with a good speed, but Schmitt is something else altogether.
he is a freak of nature, bigger version of Mike Alstott who could very easily be 1k rusher... imagine him getting 25-30 carries, if you're on defense in 4th quarter the last thing you want to deal with is 260 lbs runningback with this kind of speed... that's why i really hope that some coach in NFL will let him be a goalline/short yardage back, at the very least.

Hester got a TD in first quarter. there's little hope he gets his first 100 yards, so far Tulane is playing good defense.

wow, offensive line is having a terrible day, there's no QB protection to speak off. Flynn got them in the scoring position in dying seconds of the first half, only to have his receivers drop 2 key passes...

Jacob just scored his second TD of the game! now just feed him a ball for a 100 yard game coach!Edited by: backrow

Jacob ended up with 10 carries for 33 yards and 2 TDs on the ground, which was 3rd on the team.

CBS college football announcer Vern Lundquist just said that Alabama's defensive coordinator compared the versatility of black FSU FB/TB Sims to Jacob Hester of LSU. Sims ended up getting hurt and headed for the locker room. First time I have ever heard a current black college back compared to a white back who is currently playing. Old Vern ain't bad, that is if you can stand his laugh.

I noticed that, too. The female ESPN broadcaster sounded like she was shilling for Ryan Perriloux. When do they ever call, so frequently, for the back-up QB? Flynn was having an okay game, high ankle sprain and all. The announcer chick seemed obsessed with Flynn's backup, Perriloux.

In any case, Hester had a good day. Two TDs!

Hester was the hero tonight for LSU by scoring the game winning TD and rushing over 100 yds. Awesome performance.

The one announcer almost alluded to the caste system by name when talking about Hester. He said: "You know that there is this stereotype about white guys that they are slow and play fullback, but Jacob benches 400 lbs and runs a 4.5 hardly like that at all." Shocked he even brushed on race at all. Are the CBS SEC announcers always like this? I usually only catch games on the ESPN family of networks.

I heard that too and was surprised it was mentioned. I don't watch CBS SEC games very often, but I can't imagine that they would discuss race issues regularly.

From our perspective, having LSU continue to do well with Hester running the ball is the best thing that could happen. Coaches are such copycats that if LSU wins the NC with a white RB, other coaches will follow, hopefully.

It would have beenmuch betterif the announcer had said the stereotype is wrong and that there are many potential Jacob Hesters out there if they would only be given a chance. I think it was Gary Danielson who said it, who has always been a reliable Caste broadcaster. He made sure to say it in a way in which he won't get in trouble or cause any controversy (analogous to a comedy show airing a very mildly politically incorrect joke).

No, it isn't a regular thing on CBS, but Verne Lundquist (the main announcer) is usually pretty complimentary of/fair to white players. He also compared a black back to Jacob Hester a couple of weeks ago when calling a Florida State game. Verne is one announcer I enjoy listening to regularly, and that is rare. I missed the mention of race last night, as I was talking to my girlfriend on the phone, but I'm glad it was mentioned. I agree with SteveB, and I told my gf it would be great to see Jacob lead them to the national title and give some much needed exposure to white RBs and dispel some stereotypes. Go Jacob go!

Yes that was an amazing performance last night. I was with a group of people watching the game who don't recognize the caste system. Every time Hester ran I cheered, and some of the people were asking me why and I said "because I support white guys who play running back." And when Hester go the game winning TD, another guy said "wait, is that a white guy...At running back?" which I affirmed, to which he replied "that's BAD @SS!" There are many people out there that want to see white athletes succeed, but unfortunately are brainwashed into thinking that very few, if any can at certain positions.

But anyway, great day for Hester, that's great that he was recognized as player of the game!
