I was checking out the super slow times at the european team championships today (Volko 10.56/21.00 to qualify for 100 and 200 next round) and came across the name David Re. He is a 26 year old from Italy who clocked a legal 44.77 in the 400 in late June. That's a pretty good time. I never heard of the guy.

An interesting guy. Apparently he was also a downhill skier, and is studying to be a doctor.
He credits changing coaches and training with other top tier runners in helping improve to the next level (Lemaitre take note):
"The next few years weren’t easy. It took another three years for me to break 46 seconds, and that breakthrough came because I chose to move to Rieti to train full-time after I got a contract with my club: Fiamme Gialle.
That was where I found the coach who could take me to the next level: Maria Chiara Milardi. We have a group of six 400m runners training together there, including former Italian record holder Matteo Galvan. We all run between 44 and 46 seconds and that competitiveness helps everyone: maybe I’m stronger on aerobic work but other guys are stronger at speed work."

Yes, his hard work has really paid off. He won the euro team champs 400 meters today in 45.35. Better than bashing his against a tree skiing.

congrats to the all white Polish team winning the Super League title! Germany second and France(mostly blacks) third. Italy finished 1/2 point behind France to finish fourth. Re looked outstanding in the 4x400m relay.

Kilty won the 200m in 20.66 (-1.0w). Unfortunately, it looks like he tweeked a hamstring. He is vying for a spot on the GB relay team for the World Championships in Doha later this year.

Adam Gemeli ran a 10.07 for 2nd place in Birmingham today. He had the same time as the winner but the photo finish went to Yohan Blake. Good race however

about 1.2 metres from first to last in that race. Wow, picking a DOHA winner won't be easy.
The woman I've thought for over a year would become the new world best at 200 won't be running it in Doha - luckily for the others. And bad luck for other 400 metre sprinters.
Schippers doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. If she's foxing she deserves an academy award

After a mid-season injury lay-off, Filippo Tortu is expected to make his comeback over 100m in Rovereto on 27 August.

Ramil Guliyev ran a 10.04 today but the wind was over the allowable limit. Too bad as that would have been a seasons best.

Guliyev rounding into shape ......and tortu will have a good return in rovereto ( good track , usually good conditions ) .....I suspect several white athlete will do well ....noticeably yohan Blake is not as " consistent " as he use to be .ie fear of a drugs bust . Amazing how the male Jamaicans have all but disappeared ......but the females are still getting away with it .....Fraser pryce is the queen of cheats ....

I have a feeling both guliyev and schippers will medal over 200 .....and the Greek turkoglu will medal in the long jump .....I also think there will be Gemili and several Asian sprinters in the mix over 100 .....ie make a final ....and then anything is possible .....

And shubenkov will medal ....still feel this guy is one of the best track and field athletes on the planet .....and is consistent in his performances ...and has beaten everybody ...remember politics has affected his career and will compete as a neutral ......I love his attitude ..its " come , try and and take me on " .....a mantra many a white would do well to look to invest in .....

Year after year Guliyev seems to find his form. He has been great to watch over the years. one Of my all time favorites. I hope he gets another sub 10 this year and maybe he could even find a way to get a sub 9.9?!

Hey soccer fan ...I reckon he will go 10 flat or sub 10 ,,, but what he displayed last weekend bodes well for the 200 ....I do think he has a championship 19.7 in him again ( barring injury ) ...note clean Athletes have to try and peak ..that's why it's always been suspicious when athlete are goin sub 10 continually or sub 20 continually .......take only bolt has never tested positive for peds among the top ten sub tens of all time ...but until there is a real appetite to ban dopers ...one strike your out ....athletes like guliyev lemaitre schippers et al will always lose out ........coaches/ athletes know exactly among " top " competitors who is juicing ....

Let's hope for the best, but I think you should temper expectations for Guliyev and Schippers.
Guliyev's time was 10.04 with a big 3.4 wind. His 200m time at the same meet was 20.91 (-0.2w).

Meanwhile, Schippers came in a distant 4th at the Birmingham Grand Prix 200m, in a time of 22.84.
Gemili is looking better than these 2 at the moment. He ran 10.07 (2.0w) and 10.08 (0.7w) in Birmingham.

In case anyone mentions Lemaitre, he ran 20.66 a few days ago.

Ramil Guliyev and Christophe Lemaitre run the 200m today at the Paris Diamond League meet.
We'll see if Guliyev is back to form and if Lemaitre can show us a glimpse of the ghost of his past.

Hassan Taftian of Iran, who has been pretty mediocre the past year or more, ran 10.03 (-0.3) to win the Paris DL 100m and equal the national record.

Karsten Warholm was unstoppable as usual running 47.26 to win the men's 400m hurdles.
It's the 4th fastest time this year.
