If you think the Pirates are bad, look at the Mets racial history. Outside of a quasi Pro - White time in the mid to late 80's(1984 - 1990). For all the hype Doc and Darryl got the heart of that team was Carter, Hernandez, Backman, Teufel, Knight, Dykstra, and even black Mookie Wilson would give a good moment of two. Then of course we moved to tossed fire crackers, tossed bleach, rapes in Florida and stories from the Smithers Institute. The real low came when Dallas Green flipped over their buffet table late in 1993 after Darryl Kile no hit them and say they didn't deserve food. Guess Dallas had enough after winning in Philadelphia and later fielding divison winners as GM with Chicago. Then Gooden and Pete Schourek picked up food off the floor and eate it. Even I find that funny.

They passed on Roger Clemens because he wanted too high of a signing bonus and went with Doc Gooden instead the next year. Has Gooden reached Grover Cleveland Alexander's record for most innings yet like they hyped in the 80's. A decent carrer that would have derailed even if didn't do drugs his arm was bound to blow out due to his poor conditioning. Story was he ate two big macs a day as a youth that will take it's toll.

Only colored player of sigificance they got in that period was Juan Samuel trading Dykstra and McDowell for him. Second worst trade in franchise history, behind Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi. Fans disrepect the play of Kevin McReynolds because he happened to have outside interests other than Baseball. One the best defensive Left fielder I've ever seen. If he was around he would of swung at the Wainwright pitch, though it was nasty. They gave up on top White prospects too quickly like Lenny Dykstra,Dave Magadan, Mackey Sasser, Kevin Tapani, Rick Aguilera(Johnson never liked him, he always criticized him as not being "tough" and jerked him around from the rotation to the bullpen like a yo yo).

Today's Mets have a Zionist owner, a General Manager going on field trips to Ghana(as if the shuttles from the Dominican Republic aren't enough), and english as a third language behind bastardized spanish(most of these guys aren't fluent in their first language yet we think they can learn english), and ebonics. Looks like it will be the David Wright show as far as white's go for years. The Mets are easily the Oakland Raiders in terms of race in MLB, Yankees slightly worse being the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hey no Howard Johnson mention! the best combo of speed and power in the Big Apple since Mantle and someone that got the same amount of respect as Bobby Murcer.

I knew I forgot someone. Howard Johnson had some awesome years after he got the fulltime job from Ray Knight in 1987. Like many players he got his start late in his career floundering as a utility guy for several years before starting, then suffering with injuries.

Ironically enough he's first base coach for the Mets now.

The Mets are in for a competition from the Phillies this year, a much whiter team. It's a shame David Wright is a met and will probably be one for his entire career..

Yes, David Wright is a Met and he's a fan favorite. David Lee is a Knick and he's a fan favorite. Jeremy Shockey is a Giant and he's a fan favorite. Maybe the sports fan in New York is wisening up. Maybe not! I am sure there are still those who worship at the altar of Derek Jeter.

Ever see pictures of Jose Reyes. He looks like a guy that could come out of the closet. LOL! I hope not for his sake.

As for the Phillies they have a very solid club,but some of the pitchers they acquired are overrated. Freddy Garcia has tailed off the past couple of years and Adam Eaton hasn't lived up to the promise in San Diego. Ryan Howard is a strikeout machine and could be exposed as a one dimensional player. The Mets won't run away with the divison this year, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Braves return to prominance this year either.

A few years ago the Amazin's injected black into their colors of blue and orange. Wonder why.....?

I have been a lifelong Met fan, but I'm dissapointed in the recent turn to multiculturalism. It seems GM Omar Minaya is trying to make a team that mimics the diversity of the Mets home, Queens, NY which just so happpens to be the most ethnically diverse county in the US. I currently work in Queens in a job where I have a lot of contact with the public and all I can say is "multicultural" is not what any team, city or county should aspire to be.

Yeah the MTA suspended some black guy for sleeping on the job and writing black power on the wall in his booth to "watch" for fare evaders. Like they care who seeks on the trains. Hell it's $2.00 now, at least they're not like the pricks at NJ Transit hiking fares every 12 - 18 with crappier and crappier services and more EEO hires.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mets prospect Lastings Milledge is in trouble with team once again, this time for making a rap CD that uses foul and offensive language.


The song, Bend Ya Knees was on the Web site souljaboirecords.com, the record label the 22-year-old outfielder founded. Milledge can be heard using a racist term for blacks and language derogatory to women.


"We don't approve of the lyrics," New York general manager Omar Minaya said Wednesday.


Minaya said he spoke to Milledge -- currently at Triple-A New Orleans and on the disabled list -- and conveyed the team's position. Minaya said no disciplinary action had been taken, but added that could change.


"We're going to review the conversation and we'll go from there," he said. "He's understanding why we feel that way."


While the song was removed from the Web site earlier Wednesday, Minaya said he believed the song was going to be released.


"We can't do anything to prevent its release," he said.


Milledge was 0-for-3 with the Mets before being sent to the minors on April 13. In his rookie season, he hit .239 with four home runs in 166 at-bats.


Milledge was the Mets' top prospect when he made his major league debut in the middle of last year. In his first month, he showed off the talent that made him such a highly regarded rookie, but also made his share of mistakes on and off the field.


After hitting his first big league homer -- a tying drive with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning against San Francisco _ he perturbed players in both dugouts by high-fiving fans along the railing when he ran out to right field to take his position.


Later, he was reprimanded for not running hard on the bases. He also arrived late to the clubhouse in Philadelphia for a day game.


Near the end of the season, a pointed sign was posted in his locker at Washington -- "Know your place, rook. Your teammates," it said.


Milledge is out of action because of an injured right foot injury. He isn't expected to be ready to play for at least another few weeks.


"His focus is to get healthy," Minaya said.


Manager Willie Randolph sidestepped questions about Milledge before the game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.


"I don't have any reaction," he said. "I haven't heard much about it."

Met fans are getting all over Glavine and Randolph but this whole team sucked. The bullpen blew leads, Milledge and Reyes dance like animals anytime they accomplish something and the offense seems to strand as many runners as illegal aliens in the United States.

This team has no heart. The only guys that seem to give a damm are Wright, LoDuca, and Beltran. Do the right thing: fire the racist GM Minaya and Randolph. Bring people with heart to this team. Make the Mets what they were in the 1980's a team with heart that also didn't just want to win but embarrass you on the field not with dancing and stupid nonsense but the scoreboard.

Don't look for the Mets to make many changes to admin. or racial make up of the team,they,like the Yankees,reflect the racial make up of the city,and surrounding areas.

Minaya should be selling rice and beans on some street corner in Spanish Harlem.

Their ripping the players on Mike and Mad Dog. Especially Milledge. 90% of what their saying is right they failed because of: Complency, Immaturity, Age. I'll add cronyism. Their kissing Minaya and Randolph's asses though.

Minaya has had complete autonomy from the begining which should have never been allowed. Let the Quebecois deal with Minaya cast him back to Montreal. There's no baseball team there.

Even though the Yankees are just as demographically bad at least guys like Jeter and A-ROD conduct with some sort of diginity and class. They don't dance like the won the World Series when they tie for a divison lead they lost like Milledge and the tarnished wonder boy Jose Reyes.

Maybe Omar can start a segregated baseball league for gay men of color somewhere far from here. After all if he could draft the Mets team from scratch ther would be no Whites maybe a scrub reliever if we are lucky. David Wright would probably spit shining shoes saying "si senor" in Omar's world.

This could be a silver lining for the Mets if they use it the right way(They won't).

Well I looked at the Mets roster and here is who I wouldn't trade/let go: Paul LoDuca, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Gomez*(Great defensively shows promise but if can get ace pitcher with him as package will trade), John Maine, Pedro Martinez, and Oliver Perez.

Here is who I would defintely try to trade/release: Lastings Milledge, Jose Reyes, Tom Glavine, Orlando Hernandez, Shawn Green, Billy Wagner(He pretty much he didn't want to have the ball in a pressure situation. Go back to raising alpacas!), Moises Alou, Guilmermo Mota, and Scott Schoenweis.

Anyone else I didn't mention I'm indiferent too.

The Mets' hispanic GM Omar Minaya apparentlyraged at a jewish reporter during a press conference. CNNSI has an article but no video of it; ESPN has video only of Jeff Wilpon, part of the team's jewish ownership, criticizing Minaya.
