Matt Holliday

What a season Holliday is having. He should be the front runner for the NL MVP Award, as he's currently second in batting (.337), first in RBIs (131) and fourth in homers with 36. Last year he was .326/34/114. Holliday's a bona fide superstar now and a challenger to win the Triple Crown for years to come.


Joe Medwick was the last player to win the Triple Crown in the National League, 70 years ago. Carl Yastrzemski was the last in the AL, in 1967.Edited by: Don Wassall

And, apparently, so do the little girls of the Baseball Writers Association of America. As was proven last year with the ridiculous awarding of the MVP to Ryan Howard. So I'm predicting that Prince Fielder wins the NL MVP award this season.

Matt Holliday's name is not mentioned much,even by his home town announcers,just have to keep that solid White player in the background.

Ryan Howard,Ry-Ho,and Jimmy Rollins,J-Ro,are talked about as the face of the Phillies.On the Suday night telecast this past week,Joe Morgan and Jon Miller talked by phone with Jimmy Rollins for 15 minutes about what a great player he is,perhaps Chase Utley,and Jason Werth have unlisted numbers.

I can't believe that a white man will be allowed to win the MVP this year. Too many articles written about the lack of blacks or minorities in baseball for that. They will pick a black to emphasize how important they are to the health of baseball.

The excellent White sluggers of the Colorado Rockies are fun to watch. Matt Holliday, Ryan Spilborghs, Todd Helton, Troy Tulowitzki, Brad Hawpe, Garrett Atkins ...

The Rockies are like a White Dream Team for major league baseball. An absolute joy to watch, and it shows that Whites can only be coagulated on teams not on either coast.

I hope Colorado kicks the krappe out of San Diego and goes deep into the playoffs.

Oh and while we're at it: Ryan Howard (B) of the Phillies struck out 199 times this year.Edited by: Realgeorge

As a disapointed but not shocked Met Fan I will put all my support behind the Rockies for the playoffs this year. Another Mets farmhand/minor league coach having success other than New York in Clint Hurdle. Underated Manager IMHO. Gee Whitey HerNWO, Terry Ryan, Gerry Hunsicker to name a few of the personnel guys that got away fromt the Mets. If they win I hope they beat the Phillies into the stoneage, either way Rockies/Phillies would be a great series both teams have high momentum going in.

ESPN doesn't want to shift a precious football game for this one game playoff. What a joke, NFL fans can watch the pigskin in November. It's time for Baseball, I think the game will be on TBS though. If the Rockies get deep in the playoff Holliday has to get consideration, though his home/away splits could cause doubt in writers eyes when voting. GO ROCKIES!Edited by: Baseball Fan

The writers will definately look at Holliday's numbers home and away but they do that with all Rockies'players.I guess it has to do with the "air" in Colorado.Would this same criteria be used if most of the Rockie players were black.Matt is the MVP he's up there in all offensive categories and with two RBI's in tonight's game will move ahead of "Moe" Howard.

I doubt Holliday could choke worse than than the Mets did this week. I apologize I should give this thread to the rockies I'll vent on the other one.

Howdy Baseball Fan

It was certifiably WONDERFUL to watch the White-dominated Colorado Rockies win the one-game playoff in splendid fashion. Nothing against the SD Padres who sport many excellent White players as well.

My primary comment is great encouragement that White-dominated MLB teams are taking over the league. It would be SO EXCELLENT to see the Rockies go to the World Series and kick the Che Guevara out of the morose Mestizos of the New York Yankees. Would love to see Jeter and Rodriguez and Cano (etcetc) get crushed and leave the field hanging their heads as they get crushed by Colorado's white brigade.

The flip side is that the Rockies have a bevy of sub-par nonWhite pitchers just yearning to give away their hard-earned playoff spot. Almost GAGGED watching Jorge Julio (a Chump who got dumped by the hapless Orioles) nearly blow the game late by serving up a tasty gopher ball to marginal Padres hitter.

Go Rockies! [And it's MAGNIFICO to see ESPN frozen out of only the best MLB playoff game to be broadcast in decades. Hooray for TBS!]Edited by: Realgeorge

Most of the non white pitchers are bullpen guys. When I saw Jorge Julio(former Met) I was like so is the champaigne in the San Diego locker room already. But the Rockies came back, so let us see how they fare against the Phillies.

You are correct! Matt Holiday didn't win the MVP. Gee, what a surprise... not! Blacks and browns will always get the lions share of the votes, especially in the Selig era. Yes, he plays in Colorado which helps his batting stats, but even with that considered, he had a fabulous year.Once again not surprisingly Holliday was incredible down the strectch and won a post season MVP. Jimmy Rollinshit something like .180.Yes, I know it doesn't matter concerning the voting but itsays a lotas to who the clutch performers were. Jimmy Rollins had one stat going for him over other candidates. He had over 700 at bats. Even I could put up some numbers with that many trips to the plate. Chase Utley played 30 fewer games and was miles ahead of Rollins in OBP and Slugging. David Wright and Chipper Jones also were slighted, in my opinion.

You see, they can now say that even though they have the fewest players in the league, they still win the awards. They and they alone are the athletes, not the white pretenders. Ah just think how much more exciting baseball would be if only it were all black. Makes me sick to my stomach.

2010 has been another big year for Holliday with a .315 avg and 27 HRs and 100 RBIs.

Matt Holliday is quietly having another great year for St. Louis.

Tie for 1st in RBI's 75, 5th in HR's 21, 6th in BA. .325, and 6th in SLG% at .561.

He is a World Series Champion! A league series championship MVP. An MLB MVP runner-up. A batting Champion. 6 time All Star and 4 time silver slugger winner.

Hopefully with a few more good years, he will be a lock for The Hall of Fame!

I remember seeing Holliday a few years back at the ballpark when he played in the AL, I think it was Toronto. I had pretty good seats that day and saw him close up, he's huge. Just one of those guys that looks really big and strong. He had a good swing too so I knew he was going to last as a good to great hitter. Hit a dinger that day too. I'd hate to see him come up if I was a pitcher. Reminds me of the sluggers from the old days. Big, strong, big swing. Glad Pujols is gone so he can get out of that clowns shadow.

Right jaxvid, he's 6'4, 235lbs. and was recruited by Oklahoma St. to play QB, but chose to play BB.

On July 25th, 2012 Holliday hit the longest HR ever recorded at current Busch Stadium. The ball traveled 469ft.!

He has a fantastic swing, but it seems more condusive for hitting line drives, he hits alot of doubles. It's like an A to C swing without an uppercut, so he doesn't get as many HR's as he should.

Yes, Holliday only signed at Oklahoma State because his father is the baseball coach. He was such a good prospect, all the traditional college powers wanted him to play QB....Had he not signed with the Rockies, he would've played baseball and football in college. College scouts believed he would've been a sure fire NFL caliber quarterback. Some even compared him to Elway, talent wise, as a quarterback. Joe Mauer of the Twins is another guy that was considered a potential NFL star at quarterback, but decided not to go to caste-cesspool, garbage dump Florida State State after the Twins drafted him #1 overall.

By the way, I think Holliday's very short stint in the American League was with Oakland. Luckily they sent him to the Cards fairly quickly, as he had a hard time in his brief stint in Oakland. He's a great fit on the Redbirds....
