Solid trade for the Jags. Hopefully this stops all of the Bortles replacement talk.

Jaguars acquired QB Cody Kessler from the Browns in exchange for a conditional 2019 seventh-round pick.

Kessler replaces Chad Henne, who signed with the Chiefs, as Blake Bortles' current backup. Kessler was decent as a 2016 rookie starter across eight games, managing the offense and completing over 65% of his passes with a 6:2 TD:INT mark. However, he's reached his ceiling as an in-a-pinch No. 2.

As Don mentioned w/ Decker , I've barely heard a peep about Janis. GB supposedly wants him back again as a WSTD on a bare minimum contract.. He needs to go, if someone else is interested in a 6'3 220lb physical specimenthat is...

Despite losing Amendola, the Pats still have four white WR's on the roster in Edelman, Hogan, McCarron, and Hollister. It's nice to hear that McCarron could be close to a breakthrough, as Cody Hollister doesn't seem to be in their plans (aside from an emergency situation) and Brandin Cooks will surely only play one more year with the Pats before "getting paid" elsewhere. It would be wise for the Pats to groom McCarron to take over Amendola's role as a returner and 3rd down slot WR.

With former 1st round bust, Eric Ebron, signing with the Colts, I think the Lions were the perfect landing spot for Willson. He made some amazing plays in very limiting PT on Pete's Plantation and it's nice to see him in a starting role. I expect many plays like this...

Beasley responded on twitter. But I didn't really like the end of his response where he said "I'm not your typical white boy". Beasley is a very good athlete and player but in saying what he said he's essentially saying yeah white guys aren't good enough but I'm good enough, I'm special.

Since entering the league, Beasley has always had a feisty, men-against-the-world attitude. When he was a rookie, I remember a reporter compared him to Wes Welker and he got mad and immediately responded that he's much faster than Welker. This past season, a troll was heckling him on twitter about his bad stats after a game and he responded by saying something like "I don't give a f-ck about your fantasy team. I can't catch what isn't thrown to me!"

Because Beasley put a quotes around the word "typical" in his twitter post responding to Sanders, I think he was suggesting that white athletes are discriminated against. But I agree that whenever a white man uses the term "white boy," I immediately assume they're either a racially-oblivious or a raging wigger.

The article about McCarron's "chances" of sticking with the Pats is loaded with so many qualifiers that they negate the original suggestion that Riley could become their punt returner.

A few obvious points. Number one Edelman at this stage of his career should not be returning punts or kicks. Not saying he isn't capable but he is their key WR and it is foolish to waste his energy on special teams. By the way I am not in love with WR Brandin Cooks like so many others in the NFL. He is a one and a half trick pony and I think the Pats will wave him goodbye after the season. They sure didn't miss him in the SB as Brady racked up over 500 yards in passing.

But back to McCarron. With main PR Amendola gone why should there be "confusion and hesitation?" Let the Iowa WR return punts and like Thrashen says groom him as a slot WR. Why fool around? See what Riley M can do. If he fails well that happens all the time but the Pats have no replacement for Amendola (unless they draft WR Berrios) so the patently obvious thing to do is plug in Riley M and see how the ultra speedster handles the job. If given a chance I think he will be able to "perform' up to standard.

While I am on the subject of the Pats the standard thinking was the combo of Belichick and Brady are the reasons for the Pats breathtaking success over the years. This past SB put that notion to rest for me. Belichick is a very smart man and a top level coach. But make no mistake. He has been riding the coattails of Brady during this run. The fact that Coach Bill couldn't find a way to win this past SB despite Brady's heroics put the exclamation point on my thinking. You don't lose SB's when your QB throws for over 500 yards. The 'tension" that people refer to between the two is mostly coming from Belichik who is jealous of the fact that Brady is the true captain of the ship.

There was a one hour NFL player profile on Wes Welker on the NFL network recently. I was struck by Brady and his professionalism. After being traded from Miami when Welker first started working out with the Pats Brady was over the moon. He went up to Belichick and said Welker was so athletic and explosive. Brady marveled at Welker's quickness and savviness. The two really formed a tight duo.
They replayed the show once already but if you ever get a chance try and watch it. Later on in his career Belichick started to get sarcastic with Welker. Again not to pile on Belichick who knows how to coach but does he win any SB's without Brady? Maybe one? If that.

Cody Kessler was traded to the Jaguars for a conditional 7th. A great trade for the Jags.

Kessler started 8 games for the Browns as a rookie and accrued a quarterback rating of over 90, excellent for a rookie. Then he was buried by clueless Hue, who preferred the awful black quarterback Deshone Kizer.

Kessler can play but doesn't have a Matthew Stafford arm. In the future Kessler will be a top end back up and maybe, in some schemes, a starter.

The league clearly undervalues him as shown by the fact he only garnered a conditional 7th in trade.

The bright side is somebody wanted Janis. Based on the Browns off season moves etc. the Browns are getting him mainly to play special teams but also taking a flier on his WR (untapped) skills. I wonder if they will give him some return duties. The Packers did for a while before relegating him to being a gunner on special teams. Either way a nice player to have on the roster.

Hopefully Janis gets a fair shake in Cleveland. With Idler arm at the helm it does not bode well for him. Hopefully it will be Darnold, Allen, Rosen or Mayfield throwing him passes sooner rather than later.

Paxton Lynch is working out with Brady's personal trainer. I am eager to see the results - hopefully the Broncos don't pull the trigger on a QB early in the draft and just develop Lynch and Kelly behind Keenum. It's a shame Lynch has been paired with an inept head coach. A McVay-Goff situation would be ideal for Paxton but it doesn't look like that will happen this year.

Good for Janis. Let's not forget Brian Hartline. Hopefully management/ ownership give Janis an actual shot. Hue Jackson is still the coach though right?

Unfortunately Janis might find it hard in Cleveland as well, especially with Jackson as the head coach and Taylor at QB (until their drafted QB steps up). Might go in as their 4th WR behind Josh Gordon (huge suspension risk), Corey Coleman (couple poor seasons but was a first round pick - dropped the late ball to seal the 0-16 season), and Jarvis Landry (on big money after a few productive seasons in Miami). We know Janis is better than Coleman and as good as the other two, so hopefully he can rise up that depth chart and have good numbers in 2018.

But seriously what the packers have done to Janis over the last few seasons is disgusting. With his measurables and his starring performance in the cardinals playoff game you’d think he would get more chances, but apparently not. Hopefully Janis and the browns show the packers how stupid they were. Imagine if a no-name black receiver had 145 yards and 2 TDs, including two Hail Mary catches to send the game to overtime. They’d be given a 5 year, 50 million contract and, no matter how bad they played, would be given the start every game for most of that five years.

I agree, Janis is going to go to training camp stuck behind Landry, Gordon and Coleman as the fourth receiver at best. But with Coleman an injury prone bust to this point, and Gordon one of the biggest boneheads in league history who has missed more games due to suspension than he's actually played in, Janis has a decent shot to get some playing time on the outside in '18. And hopefully the Browns take a QB early, though Tyrod Taylor does throw a pretty good deep ball.

I didn’t see any details about the contract that Janis signed. The salary usually tells the story of how they plan to use a player. I’m hoping he becomes a mega-star in Cleveland.

With white WR, Jake Kumerow, unlikely to make the team, the Packers could have zero white pass-catchers on the roster (aside from a FB) in 2018. Their LB corps, however, should be the whitest in the league. Also, they’re probably the only team that doesn’t have a single black OT on the roster.

The year before they took Dupree in the first round, the Steelers drafted Jarvis Jones in the first round, who had horrible measurables, and he too was a mega-bust. So many blacks over-drafted, so few "Magical Negroes". . .

Geno Smiff has somehow managed to get signed again. This time by the Chargers. The Chargers have also been heavily connected to Lamar Jackson. The also have Oafdale Jones on the roster behind Philip Rivers. I don't really want to see Bosa end up on a team with a black quarterback replacing Rivers at some point.

One of the first thing AA head coaches do is try to blacken up their already black rosters. In this case he's blackening up the quarterback position.

Cody Kessler is a better quarterback than Geno Smith and was available for a song.
