dont be absurd. Leonard is and will be their second runningback and "this other guy" is no competition for him AT ALL, and certainly doesn't have any kind of headstart on Brian.

17 carry for 49 yards..that even not a 3yard per carry, I watched the game, he gain a couple of firstdown, good catches, but he wasnt great, but not many back would be against the defense of San Diego. I'm okay with his performance 'cause I know that in season he is gonna get 4.5 per carry. Tonight, that was just, leonard, leonard leonard, San Diego knew that they was gonna run and test Leonard so i'm not worried..

Yeah, I mean the Chargers knew the Rams were going to hand it off to leonard alot so they were just stuffing the box(hence the 2.9 yards per carry). Brian did nothing to hurt himself last night even though he statistics weren't stellar. I also liked the positive comments the announcers were making about him.

I watched most of the Rams game before falling asleep sometime in the late 3rd quarter. Leonard looked good. He certainly looked like he belonged in the NFL and not just as a third string or borderline player either. He looked like the type of guy who could step onto the field and immediately contribute like he could be a solid number 2 or a 1B guy right now. There are a few things he needs to improve on to be a starter, but so do about about 95% of all rookies in the league. If he gets any chance at all, he looks like he could be a solid player in the NFL.Edited by: Bear Backer

He even got some respect from some college scout in the TSN who said that Rutgers would be missing him a great deal.

The rams had a couple of penalties that negated some of Leonards stats. It looks like he will be in competition with the brutha that was running the ball in the second half. Leonard needs to step up his game, as the other guy already has a large head start because of race.
sorry but Leonard is in competition with no one. He is in competion just with himself!Edited by: lumsdenpower

I beg to disagree. He is in competition with any RB of color that happens to share the same sideline.

I think Leonard is awesome and a blast to watch. I also think that he is better than most. The fact that he is white dictates that he better perform some eye-popping running, or he will be delegated as a special teams demon. Damn guys, we see it every frickin' year!

I dont remember a white RB to get 19touches in one half in pre-season..so I really think that if Leonard play well, he wont get screwed

differences between Leonard and any other white runningback who got screwed by the system are:

1. even caste experts are high on him
2. he didn-t go undrafted or went in 6th, 7th round which always makes it easier for coaches to cut players with no questions asked...
3. Linehan clearly wants to get him involved and there's no other runningback on the roster listed behind Brian that can play worth the sh*t

Thats the most important one right there. Linehan REALLY likes Brian as a running back. Maybe ole' Scotty Linehan did not get the memo on white running backs lol

I tend to agree with you guys, Brian won't be screwed.......at least not this year, wait until that really quick RB with break away speed fall through the cracks and they get him in the 4th round next year, they'll call him the steal of the draft and every-body will forget about good ole' brian. Then he'll get moved to FB.

wow, thats not really like me to be this negative...

Take from it what you please.

From the Bill Coates story out of the Post Dispatch

"Because Leonard has progressed rapidly at tailback, the plan now is to bring him up to speed at fullback. He played both positions at Rutgers."

"He's going to have to take a big step in the next couple of weeks and learn the fullback position as well," Olson said. "From what we've seen so far, there's no reason for us to believe he won't be able to do that."

I dont think he is saying that he want leonard just at fullback, but they want to know if he is able to play fullback, i hope that Leonard does well at fullback, because that sure that leonard isnt going to be the starter at fullback, hedgecock is a beast, but if leonard can spell hedgecock, that just say, more carry, more passes for Leonard..

once again, DraftDaddy links an article and points out the things we here at Caste Football are well aware of. DraftDaddy's comments:
More excuses from the "mainstream media", suggesting St. Louis Rams rookie Brian Leonard is not a legit N.F.L. tailback, despite the fact he obviously has the ideal mix of size, speed and power teams look for.

the guys at DraftDaddy are right on top of the obvious bias that white athletes face, but have so far not pointed out that the ISSUE IS RACE. still, it's nice to see them call out such a lame writer's lamer opinion. the article in question:

<H1>Measuring Leonard's ceiling</H1>

These 67 yards feel like much more.

In the St. Louis Rams' second preseason game on Saturday, former Rutgers star Brian Leonard went head-to-head with the San Diego Chargers first-team defense (mostly), rushing for 49 yards on 17 carries and picking up a pair of nine-yard catches.

Starting RB Steven Jackson was in for one snap, a play action pass, before Leonard took over. He made players miss, he propelled himself forward Eddie George-style on every hit he took and looked like he wasn't bothered by the physicality.<A name=more></A>

The Chargers had the eighth-best rush defense in the NFL last season and were playing with a fair amount of intensity for a preseason game. Rams QB Marc Bulger was knocked to the ground a few times so you know they weren't just going through the motions.

It raised a question that I didn't think warranted a lengthy discussion, but I'm becoming convinced otherwise. Can Brian Leonard have a long, prosperous NFL career?

The 67 yards Leonard totaled during the game came in a variety of ways, similar to his career as a Scarlet Knight. Every NFL team values a player who can do multiple things out of the backfield and keep defenses guessing. Every NFL team likes Brian Leonard in theory, but can this theory be put into practice?

Many of you have watched Leonard for the past few years rather than just the tail end of last season. You can tell me if I'm off base.

Part of Leonard's appeal in the months before the NFL Draft were his combine numbers. He ran faster and bench pressed more than anyone expected; great in both categories, not simply solid all around. The Rams' coaching staff has talked about using him in different ways from different spots on the field. You have to utilize what you spend a high draft pick on, obviously.

Here's where I pause. As fast as he is and as strong as he is, there are guys that are faster and stronger. Lots of them. Maybe they don't have Leonard's football IQ, but let's not view these physical attributes in a vacuum - you can do better.

The dividing point, it seems, between great success and gradually fading away is how well he'll fit his position. The man was drafted as a fullback, after all.

He doesn't need to be Lorenzo Neal, bulldozing through a platoon of linebackers so LaDainian Tomlinson can score his 73rd touchdown of the year, but what can he do for the Rams' Steven Jackson besides spelling him for a series now and then?

If he can be in there at the same time as Jackson, the Rams become frightening. If Leonard is a respected blocker in the NFL and defenses have to respect that, in addition to his own abilities with the ball in his hands, preparation becomes impossible.

So, that's my question. Can Brian Leonard be more than just a talented back in the NFL? Can he be a wave-of-the-future fullback?

Brian Leonard is one of the greatest white backs to come out in a long time. He also happened to land on a team who needed someone of his caliber to run the ball. I believe that if he continues to do as well as he did Friday night then he will see alot of action this season.

Like someone said above let some really quick back get picked in the 4th round and if Leonard's numbers are sliding within the next few years the fourth rounder will play a lot more than Leonard and Leonard will be another Mike Alscott.

I sure hope this isn't going to be the way it is.

Amazing how the versatile, 'athletic' quarterback is all the rage in the NFL, but a versatile running back is an enigma? They wonder if he can 'fit the mold?' We all know the truth, but I'll say it anyway - if Leonard was black he would be the most lauded running back in the draft: "That guy, he can do it all, he's elusive, he's big, he's strong, he's fast, he's got great hands...blah blah blah."

Don't count out the Craig Pickering thread either, especially with Craig's closing speed.

"A unique blend of size and speed" is common Caste-terminology when referring to a black RB.

White players' just aren't unique...

The way things are going on some NFL teams the white player will be unique; the only white player, and the kicker.

:)::sigh:::)...of course. I was wondering how long it was going to last. The "affaletes" on the team must have sought legal representation from the NAACP and filed a lawsuit claiming unfair treatment on their behalf. Figures.

Gentlemen,

You're all too negative. Leonard has his destiny and he's going to excel no matter what they do to slow him down. No way to eclipse this guy.
