-Osweiler has played horribly tonight. Not worth 72 mil.. He can't push the ball downfield and I don't like his low release, he's 6'7 get your throws up dude!

-That being said his OL is Sumo dominated and slow. Sumo Derek Newton blew out both his knees tonight lol

- WRs for Houston have been underwhelming. Fuller and Strong have been nowhere in sight and Hopkins has been held in check.

-Houston clearly misses a healthy and dominant JJ Watt!

PS Clowney sucks. About as low impact of an OLB as there is in the league. 2 sacks on the year. 6.5 in 3 seasons = The Great Media Hype Job. Once a generational talent my ass.

Osweiler really needs to pick his game up the second half of the season. I like him alot - I still remember watching him back in 2011 at Az St but Celticdb15 is right about the release point and the money paid to him. He simply isn't worth it yet but they are still 4-3 with a chance in a weak division. Semian looked sharp on the other hand, I love his release and the fact he throws a "pretty" ball which means nothing but it's nice to see.

AFC South is wide open this year and as you said Texans sitting good at 4-3. He's just gotta focus on his mechanics,O'Brien should be able to help him with that. I noticed he takes a long stride before he throws so maybe start with keeping that step forward more compact so his body doesnt dip when he throws. He's gotta learn to use his height to his advantage. I'm cheering for him as well, maybe I was a little critical of his play. Denver defense can bring it.

I think you are totally justified and I agree with your criticism. I just hope both he and Bortles turn their seasons around.

Osweiler is still very inexperienced. I think his starts last season and this one equal about one full season worth. Last year he was a game manager after Peyton Manning's arm gave out and the team rode its defense to the Super Bowl. Houston's sumo o-line isn't very good, but Lamar Miller is a good running back and Hopkins is one of the best WRs in the league. Osweiler's mobile and hopefully Bill O'Brien, who is supposed to be good with young QBs, will give Brock more time to develop instead of panicking and making a switch prematurely.

That was probably an all-time first in the NFL of Constantly Injured Players, one of the disadvantages of being 150 pounds overweight. I'm actually surprised the NFL still hasn't done anything about its many morbidly obese linemen, probably because few Whites get to or want to be that size and it's a black thang. But if another one dies of a heart attack the way Korey Stringer did, there might be some action taken.

As far as Clowney, Gruden was singing his praises during the game. I've come to like Gruden as he's improved significantly over his announcing career, but he can still be over the top with his flattery. Clowney was obviously in his scripted talking points to be brought up during the game, and Chucky doesn't deviate from them no matter how poorly one of the players he's supposed to build up is playing.

I've actually thought about this issue too. Athletic ability aside, it's just not healthy to weigh what these guys do now a days. It would be interesting to see what the health profile looks like for these linemen after football, say 10-15 years down the road. I would gather that quite a few drop dead in their 40s and 50s, but it just doesn't get talked about because they are long and forgotten. There are also quite a few I'm sure who never make it to the NFL or are only around for a year or so, and you will never hear about them dying 10 years from now.

If the weight is natural to your body you can live fairly long with the high weights that these men have. The problem is most of these men are natural 250 pounders that gorge themselves to be 300+.

In the Sumo thread a few posters have noted the death of famous and not so famous players dropping dead in their late 30's to early 40's. It's quite sad really, the should at least live to be 65 which these days isn't really that old with modern medicine and nutritional and exercise knowledge.

Ps very few are White that die that young, it's just a theory but if you look at body types most of the White linemen are much leaner than the Black linemen. So the weight is more by exercise and good genes rather than gorging.

I think there's a lot of truth to what you say. A 250 pounder used to be considered a big guy. Now that is linebacker weight. The combination of eating crazy amounts of food and drugs pushes these guys way past what they were meant to be at. I never paid attention, but now that you mention it, I do notice a lot of the white linemen don't have that horrible gut or fat albert look that a lot of the black linemen have. Blacks in general have higher rates of obesity and certain health issues like hypertension as well I believe.

So many of the sumos are statues because of their weight, including many highly drafted tackles, Greg Robinson being a great example as mentioned today in the busts thread. I was watching Houston's tackles last night, and guys like Von Miller can get around them pretty effortlessly as they are too big to be able to react to fast defensive ends and outside linebackers.

I can see using morbidly obese defensive tackles like Vince Wilfork, who are so wide and immovable they can effectively clog up running lanes, but not on the o-line. The best o-lines are quick and mobile, like the Packers and the Patriots before their recent fascination with sumos.

Looks like Denver Broncos RB CJ Anderson is out for the rest of the season. It would be great if they would sign Toby Gerhart. But that is highly unlikely.
