He'd have to suffer a serious injury or really lose it before next season not to get there now.
Randy Johnson is up to 270 wins. He has a shot at 300 but I'd put it at maybe 1 in 3 that he gets there. It's amazing he's still pitching as hard as he throws, if he can get to 300 it would be quite an achievement.
Mike Mussina is up to 232 wins at age 37. If he can pitch competitively another 5 years he could get there.

I was thinking no at the beginning of last year. But Glavine has kicked it up a notch. If he has a strong second half of the year he is all but garunteed....

Glavine won his 299th tonight. Looks like Bear Arms was a prophet.
It's a shame he looks destined to win his 300th at a time when what little publicity he'll receive will be dwarfed by the ongoing media drama concerning Barry Bonds pursuit of the career home run mark.

I can't say I heard too much about Craig Biggio reaching 3,000 hits. Should I expect anything different for Glavine?
After Johnson, the closest pitcher to 300 wins is Mike Mussina with 243 career wins. What is he 38? He should be around a few more years. But I don't watch a lot of Yankee games, so I don't know if he has anything left.

Interesting that all the pitchers who go for years are white, for the most part. Some of the spanish pitchers are good for a while. Pedro Martinez, I think is done.

Mussina is pretty much tapped out he'll have one good outing, then get blasted. He won't make 300 wins.There is no telling what too expect from Pedro, if the Mets get anything out of him by next year it will be an accomplishment. He gave the Mets a great year in 2005 and helped restore respectability to the franchise for that Met fans should thank him.
Tom Glavine is an outstanding athlete drafted by the LA Kings of hockey as well, a good fielder and a man who did all the little things to win. Not overpowering, but had as good control as anyone to pitch this generation. Some fans on WFAN don't want him in the playoff rotation, I say he's got a great playoff game or two left in his tank. Godspeed Tom.

God I just turn off WFAN when I get it. Total idiots call in to the midnight show. Glavine is money and even at 41 can still bring it in October. Bruce from Flushing probably called that one in.....

Glavine goes for number 300 tonight against the Cubs. One person not impressed by the feat is his manager, Willie Randolph, who told reporters, "You guys are probably making a bigger deal of it than it is. In the clubhouse, I haven't heard anybody talking about it. Guys don't talk about it. It's a big deal for Tommy, but in the clubhouse, I don't think guys are really thinking about it that much."
Glavine's teammates not caring may have a lot to do with the fact that so many of them are non-white. As for Randolph, maybe he'd care moreabout the rare historic feat if Glavine was black, given that not a single black pitcher has won 300 games in the 60 years since the sportwas integrated.

Congratulations to Tom Glavine on a tremendous career achievement. This is one to savor, because I believe we've seen the last 300 game winner for decades, maybe even forever. If that sounds far-fetched, consider that Walter Johnson won over 400 games and Cy Young an amazing 511. 400 and 500 wins have been unreachable for almost a century. The onset of the five-man starting rotation has similarly made 300 wins almost impossible. Unless and until the five-man rotation is reduced, 300 wins will be a milestone that few if any pitchers will reach.

I watched the last few innings of the game and ESPN's "celebration" of Tom Glavine was subdued to say the least. Apparently the media is too inhibited to openly pay homage to the crowning achievement of a great career when the athlete involved is white.
And when shots of Glavine in the dugout were shown, he was always by himself. Was that his choice, or another example of how his mostly non-white teammates had little interest in his 300th win, per the quote above by Willie Randolph?
While play by play announcer Jon Miller rather timidly tried to remind viewers of the history being made, Joe Morgan had virtually nothing complimentary to say about Glavine and the moment at hand. I used to respect Morgan but in the last few years he seems to have gone over completely to kneejerk black racialism.

I agree the black racist Joe Morgan was mostly silent about the Glavine achievement. Morgan also plugged Mets 1B coach Ricky Henderson during the game, that was an obvious one.

The "This Week in Baseball" TV show delivered a reasonably good tribute to Tom Glavine and his great achievement. They did Glavine and America the ultimate compliment by showing a five-minute piece of Tom Glavine skating in a practice with the Boston Bruins NHL hockey team. Glavine took a few shifts with the Bruins' "Fourth Line" and he didn't look a bit out of place! Actually popped in a goal on one play.
Glavine was the consummate baseball pro. A Hall-of-Fame pitcher for sure, but he could field with great aplomb, and was an EXCELLENT hitter, who burned many an opposing pitcher with some rocket-shot base hits. The Atlanta Braves were idiots for letting him get away.
His achievements with the Mets were all the more amazing in that he almost always has/had a Mestizo catcher working his games. And the Mets' "Front office" of course is the primo anti-White position-player operation in all of North American baseball.

Glavine is also an excellent golfer. Caste System propaganda often mocks golf as a "non-athletic non-sport" -- except of course for His Holiness Pope Tiger The First the world's greatest athlete -- but to me one of the mostobvious pieces of evidence against the "black as super athlete"nonsense is the fact thatso very few of them can master the "easy" sport of golf. And golf isa sport in which black participation, among athletes from other sports and the public at large, is roughly the same as that of whites. If only the Caste-masters could figure out a way to bring shortdistance straight-line sprintingto golf.

I should have known this ... Glavine was a draft choice of the NHL Los Angeles Kings about the same time he decided to pitch in MLB.
Saw Glavine notch another one against Wash Nationals the other night. Gosh the guy has a smooth delivery. The easiest windup in the world, a gentle sling of the ball, and in comes a 91-mph fastball with perfect location.

What I want to know is why the second best barrier (after 756) wasn't in the baseball on (ESPN.com) milestone meter? Winning 350 games is greater than 600 home runs and in my mind is up there with 700 home runs. Edited by: white is right
