Remember there was room for only 5 players but if your favorite was not on the list. Vote for them by write in. There have been many who I could have put on the list like Mickey Mantle,Stan Musial,Pete Rose,Rogers Hornsby, etc. Who's your pick? Final game of the World Series your behind by 2 runs, you have 2 men on base and you really need a hit-Who is your pick to bat for your team?

I'd have to go with the Babe. Nobody could clear the bases like he could.

Best pure hitter was Ted Williams, best home run hitter was by far Ruth. I have to vote for the splendid splinter.

I know he's for sure the number one a$$hole of all time but I still had to vote for the Georgia Peach.

Well, after reading Stump's biography about him, I kinda liked him. I guess that says something about me. The only thing that got me about him is how he was so unforgiving with his son.

Cobb was a proud, hard-nosedSouthern white man who had the common racial attitudes of his era. All white athletic heroes of the past have been degraded by the system, and Cobb especially so. His "outspoken bigotry" has made him an all-purposebad guythat anyone can now say anything about. He's been accused of running into the stands to beat up a cripple, murdering a would-be mugger, throwing a chambermaid down a flight of steps, deliberately slashing opponents with his spikes, mindlessly beating up blacks, etc., etc. He's become a sort of mini-Hitler, a cartoon demon to whom any and all bad behavior may be attributed without anyone dare defending him. Maybe he did do some of the things he's alleged to have done, but knowing how routinely and systematically history is rewritten by the ruling forces in this country to fit into their globalist, multicultural agenda, I'm very skeptical.

Cobb is the best singles hitter of all time. The best all around hitter was Williams and Babe Ruth is the best power hitter of all time. I know McGwire passed Ruth in the home run to at bat ratio, but that was largely due to steroids, I'm not sure if Bonds has that now though(not that that is worth anything, except to point out the wonderful talents of Victor Conte).....

On a recent broadcast of a Baltimore Orioles baseball game, caste announcer Gary Thorne said of Ty Cobb,"If I ever met him,I would get into a fight with him, because he was not nice to other races"!

Don, by the standards of the day, Ty Cobb was actually relatively moderate as far as that stuff goes. He stated in the late 1940s that he "saw no reason why blacks and whites couldn't play together" and later even said "Mays is the only man in baseball that I'd pay to see."

He just was rough on everybody. Did you know he taught the DiMaggios to play ball a lot and gave them pointers when they were younger? I got the privilege of sitting next to an aging Dom DiMaggio at a game at one point and he told m about him. He was also friendly with Ted Williams until Williams said that Roger Hornsby was a better hitter.

Without a doubt, the CS would say Tony Gwynn right now. They can't say Bonds, except for a guy that has a reputation for being a "bad boy." Some white commentators I bet will go with Bonds. The others will definitely say Tony Gwynn.Edited by: Freedom

The thing about the five players listed is that I honestly do not think there is on black player that is as much of a total player that these were. Who could you list. Mays, Aaron, Clemente or Bonds? They were good but still did not excell in virtually all aspects of the game as the five white players listed.

I cast my vote but one player not listed was Honus Wagner. Man he put up some stats also.

Totally agreed. Rogers Hornsby, Tris Speaker, and Nap Lajoie were also great hitters. Look up any of those 4 guys stats and your jaw will hit the floor. There was such amazing talent pre-WWII and no one knows who these guys were. It's really quite a shame.

We're racist for not giving it to Josh Gibson
who hit 1000 homeruns.

Musial, Brett, and even a few recent guys like Larry Walker could vie for the title and should also be on there. Keep in mind that pitching peaked in the late 1960s.

I give it to Williams. The caliber of play wasn't as good Pre-WWII. Often, stats also weren't kept well and games were fixed too so it is tough to say.

Williams did so much work on hitting mechanics so I give it to him. Ty Cobb's mechanics were simpler and less effective as time passed(and the ball changed) as much as he dreaded it. Supposedly before a double header, Cobb told a reporter he could hit homeruns easily conventionally, so he kept his hands together and hit 5 homeruns in the double header!

Since Williams also had a very illustrious military career, I give him credit.Edited by: Freedom

Both Cobb and Williams often had tremendous slumps. I give it to DiMaggio on the list.

But I'd pick Jimmy Foxx.

Statistically, Mark McGwire hit more homeruns in relation to his at bats than any other human in history.

Williams missed the 1943,44 and 45 seasons because of military service he also missed all but 6 games of the 1952 season and all but 37 games of the 1953 season for the same reason so he missed about 5 seasons during his physical prime and still had a .344 lifetime BA and hit 521 homers over 16 years ( I know his career spanned 21 seasons but I deducted the five he missed ). And remember this was back when the pitchers mound was 10" higher and the strike zone was twice as big as it is now.

Doesn't he know that Cobb died years ago?

Wouldn't it be fun to transport idiots like Thorne back in time and let him see what EVERYONE felt and believed in that certain time? Plus I would also love to see just what he would really do when confronted with Cobb.
