Chase Chaucer is another white RB on the roster. Look for TE Mit Cole to get some playing time. On defense,MIKE LB Jacob Cutrera should get some playing time as the backup for Derry Beckwith.

Early yes it is. LSU released their Spring Review booklet and it listed the projected starters, so I thought I'd post it to see how they changed before preseason started and then regular season.

Speaking of LSU, Ryan Perrilloux has been suspended indefinitely.

BATON ROUGE (AP) â€â€￾ Louisiana State backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been suspended from the team indefinitely after he was cited for trying to illegally enter a riverboat casino in Baton Rouge.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said Tuesday the 20-year-old Perrilloux was issued a misdemeanor summons by police after allegedly trying to use his older brother's driving license to enter the Hollywood Casino.

The minimum age to board a riverboat casino in Louisiana is 21.

Perrilloux was one of the top recruits in the country in 2004, and was listed No. 2 on the depth chart behind starter Matt Flynn after spring practice.

Perrilloux was cited for one count of misrepresentation to gain access and released, said Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said. Police were called to the casino about 5 p.m. Saturday by the boat's security guards, McKneely said.

Bonnette said Perrilloux could return to the team at coach Les Miles' discretion.

"The coach is going to monitor his situation," Bonnette said. "He could return, but that's certainly not definite."

Perrilloux could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Directory assistance did not have a listed telephone number for him.

Jacob Hester is a phenomenal talent. He led LSU in rushing last year and will
get a chance to be even more of a feature RB this year. Dual threat as he can
catch any ball thrown his way.

I'll never forget sitting on the 50-yard line of the 2006 Peach Bowl, watching
the Tigers crush Miami and seeing Hester tear through the all-negro defense
like he was in Pop Warner.

TE Keith Zinger
QB Matt Flynn
RB Jacob Hester
smiley1.gif

Defensive

SS Craig Steltz -3 INTS-
smiley1.gif

Senior Guard Will Arnold did not start and was expected to be back at full strength for the start of fall practice after missing most of last season and all of spring practice with knee and ankle injuries ... but did not return ... Can play either the guard or tackle spot ... Will likely line up on the right side of the ball in 2007 when he returns taking Lyle's spot.

i'm watching the LSU-VTech game, and Kirk Herbstreit just said, "(LSU's quarterback Matt) Flynn probably doesn't have the athleticism of last year's quarterback JaMarcus Russell, but he is good enough to get the job done."
smiley5.gif

i mean, give me a break! Flynn is obviously a faster and more elusive runner than fat ass Russell ever was! gah!
smiley7.gif

in good news, Jacob Hester started the game and looked awesome in the opening drive. he finished it with a strong run for the TD. however, the huge runs he was tearing off never looked fast... he looked plenty damn fast to me.

Yeah he also said that LSU will never challange for the championship until Williams is their primary runner. Translation: no matter how good Hester does it will never be enough because he's white. Pathetic, just pathetic!

Another Herbstreitism: In the tough SEC, although I really like Hester LSU will need Williams to really step it up as their featured back.

I can't even turn on ESPN and the Keiland Williams bandwagon is already starting!!! I admit, he did have a good game 7 for 126, 2 TD's and a good TD run but they compared it to the Leonard leap??? C'mon!!
smiley11.gif
. What's next? Ryan Perrilloux starting over Matt Flynn???

But Steltz played a great game again and Hester had a nice game, too.

Shocking opinion piece from the Sporting News.
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=272074
I won't post the whole thing. It's pretty long. Here are the main points.

LSU is better with Flynn than Russell

</font>Look, I know this is sacrilegious to all those NFL
personnel guys who drool over Russell's freakish frame and his ability
to throw a ball 70 yards on one knee and his 1-point-whatever-second
release. But this LSU team is better with Matt Flynn at quarterback.

</font> You want some numbers? In 11 games the previous
two seasons against ranked teams, LSU was 7-4 with Russell -- and he
threw nearly as many interceptions (11) as touchdown passes (13). Those
four big-game meltdowns -- against Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and
Auburn -- prevented the most talented team in the most talented
conference
from winning anything other than a couple of meaningless bowl games.</span>
</font> Never have 22 wins in two years felt so unfulfilling.</span>
</font> "You would think with all those wins," says wideout Brandon LaFell, "we'd have a championship." </span>
</font>Flynn is no JaMarcus Russell -- which brings us back
to my original point: This team will not beat itself as it did in
previous seasons.

</font> The quarterback position isn't about who has the
strongest arm or who looks the best in game-day silks. It's about
making decisions, about the ability to stand firm and not crumble under
the enormous pressure.</span>
</font> In the Tigers' two most important
games the past two seasons -- losses to Georgia in the 2005 SEC
championship game and Florida last season -- the offense committed
seven turnovers and scored a measly 24 points. In Flynn's two career
starts against top 10 teams -- blowout wins over Miami in the 2005
Peach Bowl and Virginia Tech last week -- the Tigers had no turnovers
and 88 points.</span>
</font> That's not skewing numbers to make a
point. Those are cold, hard facts. LSU relied too much on Russell's
strong right arm when things got edgy or games got dicey. And no matter
how hard you throw a ball against a wall, it's not going through. </span>
</font> Besides, it's not like Flynn is some noodlearmed
overachiever. He doesn't have the best touch on deep balls, but he's
extremely accurate on short and intermediate throws and he allows LSU
to expand its dangerous running game with his ability to execute the
read option play.

</font>No longer will big games from a stout defense be nullified by poor decisions from the most important position on the field.</span>

They are unable to allow themselves to commit the sin of admitting that Flynn is actually faster than Russell. But they do acknowledge that he is more effective as a quarterback. I just wish Jacksonville would have recognized this years ago. Leftwich and Russell are two peas in a pod. Both think that the only skill needed in being a quarterback is to throw the ball as hard as possible on every pass.

In any case, congrats to Matt Hayes (writer of this editorial) for a fair and accurate assessment of the differences between the two quarterbacks. I doubt it'll ever happen again. In fact, he'll probably be reprimanded for this piece.

PS: Is it possible that Miles will recognize (and admit) that he made a mistake going with Russell all this time? Maybe they would've already had two national titles by now.

Go Hester continue to kick ass and don't let Keiland take your carries at HB. It would be great to see Hester go over a 1,000 yards this year(which of course he will if given enough carries).

Hester had a 100+ yard game against Florida, including the winning TD.

A white running back in the SEC on a team that prides itself on being coal black is pretty amazing.

And it wasn't just any 100 yard game, he gained yards when the game was on the line and the defense was stacked to stop him. He is tough as nails. As a KY fan I hate to see him coming to Lexington this Saturday.

Yes sir he did! From the LSU website:

SS Craig Steltz' 16 total tackles tonight is a career-high and is the most by an LSU player since Bradie James had 18 versus Arkansas on November 29, 2002.

Way to play Craig!

From the AP today:

LSU suspends pair: Backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and linebacker Derrick Odom are not expected to play for No. 3 LSU against No. 17 Alabama on Saturday because of their part in a nightclub brawl.

Just one more of at least a half dozen total strikes against Perrilloux, who in the words of most announcers, has left his troubled past behind. Yeah right!

Odom kicked off the team

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Backup LSU linebacker Derrick Odom was charged with a misdemeanor Wednesday, accused of smashing a car window after a brawl at a nightclub last week. Soon afterward, coach Les Miles announced he was being kicked off the team.

Odom faces one count of simple criminal damage to property, according to Baton Rouge police. He was involved in a fight at The Varsity nightclub near LSU's campus early Friday, left the club and was caught on video when he returned an hour later and smashed an SUV window, police said.

A call to Odom's lawyer, Anthony Bertucci, was not immediately returned.

Miles said Odom, of Jackson, Miss., was dismissed as was walk-on linebacker Jeremy Benton, of Monroe.

"Our involvement is not to be condoned. There are a number of people at fault here, including our guys and their judgment," Miles said.

Odom and backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who was also in the fight, were barred from practice this week. Perrilloux, meanwhile, will remain on the team but will not play Saturday, when No. 3 LSU faces No. 17 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Miles said.

He said that decision was made because Perrilloux, a sophonore, has missed the "lion's share" of practice this week.

"Beyond that time, Ryan will be back as we prepare for our remainder of the season. That is how this thing has ended, and I want to go forward from here," Miles said.

Perrilloux was not charged in the brawl.

In September, Odom was arrested for the second time in less than a month, accused of damaging an LSU student's vehicle. Miles suspended Odom for three weeks in August, after the linebacker was arrested for damaging another LSU student's vehicle and threatening the student. On Aug. 27, Odom apologized to the victims of the August incident and agreed to pay restitution.

Odom, a redshirt freshman, has not seen any action for the Tigers this year, while Benton, a junior, played in four games.

In eight games this year, Perrilloux has thrown for 414 yards and six touchdowns, while adding another 192 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
