NFL players lawsuit dismissed
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Buccaneers running back Lionel Gates has been charged with hitting a pregnant woman in the face and pushing her into a wall during an argument.

The 25-year-old player was being held Friday with no bail, jail records said.

Gates kicked in the front door of Peggie Lavender's apartment Thursday night, destroyed two televisions and two doors, put a hole in the bedroom wall and assaulted her, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report said. He was arrested later at his apartment in the same complex.

Gates was charged with burglary of a dwelling, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and criminal mischief. A call to his lawyer Ken Sarnoff was not immediately returned. The team had no immediate comment.

Gates was signed by Tampa Bay in September after being released by Buffalo. He played in college at Louisville and was drafted by the Bills in 2005.

That is the last straw for me. I will limit my football to coaching my youth team and watching the local small colleges and high schools. If enough people get fed up and quit watching or going to NFL games, this nonsense will change, but I doubt it.

A caller on the radio alluded to a USA Today article saying 41 NFl players had been arrested since 2006. He wanted the radio hosts, who never shut up, to comment on the fact that only two of the arrests were white players.

The result was 5 seconds of radio silence. You could feel how uncomfortable they were through the radio.

That always happens when the inconvenient facts of the modern NFL are brought into the light. I'm glad the caller did it. Maybe it got a few people to thinking.

The typical answer is that it is about numbers - there are more black players than white players in the NFL, therefore ipso facto if any arrests are made, there will naturally be more blacks arrested. It would be unusual if there were more whites arrested, for example, given their smaller numbers in the NFL. It would be interesting to note the actual percentages of black and white arrests vis a vis their total numbers in the NFL.

A more telling statistic of course is the number of crimes committed by blacks in society as a whole, which far exceeds the percentage of their numbers in the population.

I just read the article on USA Today's website and it says over 50 players have been arrested since the start of 2006. The number of blacks in the NFL still don't account for the disparity. Its a difference in behavior.

Here is another fact for you. Blacks blame the fact that they are poor and oppressed for the reason they commit crimes in the real world. Well what about the blacks in the nfl. They have millions of dollars and they still commit plenty of crimes. What is their excuse? Maybe the NFL should pay them more. LOL. It will never stop with them. NEVER.

Nothing says it better than millionaires selling pot out of the trunk of their cars.

If you get a chance, post a link. I wasn't able to find the article. One of the white arrests was for boating under the influence.

I was sure the caller was a CF member and I'm not sure how he got by the screener. But the blowhards usually go on and on about every topic but they just sat there on this one. Finally, one of them said there was no racial aspect to this at all and they went to break. I wish the caller would have stayed on the line to debate but he did the "I'm gonna hang up and listen bit".

Today's two favorite topics were Imus and NFL criminals. Interesting ride to work.

The two white players were Jared Allen (DUI)
and Eric Steinbach (Boating Under Influence).
