This weekend the all-white Moroa-Forsyth H.S. boys basketball team defeated all-black Chicago North Lawndale H.S. for the Class A basketball title. Moroa-Forsyth has an co-ed enrollment of 367, Chicago N. Lawndale an all-boys enrollment of 389 and is an open enrollment school.
North Lawndale featured a devastating pressure defense, 6-6 and 6-5 frontcourt players, and a 6-1 all-state guard; Monoa-Forsyth had a 6-0 all-state guard and little height. However, the Monoa-forsyth players, not realizing that they could not beat North Lawndale's superior athletes, beat the defensive pressure and height disadvantage and actually forced North Lawndale to commit a number of turnovers.
To his credit, the analyst commented several times that the M-F players were "slashers" as they consistently drove to the hoop to score lay-ups.
Much to his credit, the black North Lawndale coach commented that his team lost to a "dynamite team".
