South Africa. Anyone think there's a chanceFIFA might change the venue? I know the world media has done a hell of a job trying to keep the truth about what's going on there under wraps. If the tournament does get played there, the mediamight have to work extra hard to keep a lid on the crime that is likely to happen to the poor fans who go. Maybe the security detail will be incredible, even bigger than Germany last year.Thousands of troops in armor with automatic rifles walking the streets, have the SAS on call in case of a hostage situation. Better yet, they couldencouragethe fans to carry guns.

It's really too bad, I've been wanting to go to a World Cup for awhile. Didnt get to any games at USA 94. Last year would have been good, just didn't have the money. I guess I'll have to wait till 2018 as the 2014 WC is promised to South America, which I'm guessing will mean Brazil.

Bring an automatic, as we may have a repeat of 1879:
"Thick as grass and black as hell!"

Sorry, that's harsh on the Zulus as they are one of the better tribes of that region.

I was in SA last summer, and Capetown is a really nice city with very little crime, but Johannesburg which I believe is their biggest city is one of the most dangerous places on Earth. Anyone know where the center stadiums gonna be? They should get their heads checked if they don't put it in Capetown.

Wow, just checked on wikipedia, not only is the center stadium in Johannesburg, but the second biggest stadium is being built in Durban, where 68% of people have flush toilets and 1/3 of people live in shanty towns. Should be a fun time!

My Mum is a British/Irish South African and I visit SA regularly as I have many relatives there even though some have left for a more peaceful lives in UK,USA and Aussie. I didn't like apartheid but one thing for sure was that crime was under control back then. Since 1994 crime has got out of control yet the stupid ANC government refuse to admit it and blame the crime complaints on the so called 'whiney white community'. This is not true as everyone in South Africa is affected by crime possibly even more so the black community who has to live side by side with violent criminals who kill and rape for fun. An interesting BBC article stated that when they were in Joburg city centre they were flocked by black people who complained about the crime levels and showed the BBC reporters scars from when they'd been mugged and attacked and a lot of them blamed it on immigrants from the rest of Africa, namely the Nigerians. The governments poor attempts to sort out the crime problem could severly jeperdise the World cup 2010. South Africa is a very wealthy sport loving country (due to the 5 million Europeans) with already 7 world class stadiums, 1 in Pretoria, 2 in Joburg, 1 in Durban, 1 in Bloemfontein, 1 in Cape Town and 1 in Rustenburg. These I believe will all have minor upgrades done to them. New stadiums are to be built in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Polokwane (Pietersburg). Technology wise South Africa has it all with a good transport system, Communication and world class hotels aswell so no worries there. The one problem is simply the crime. As for Durban blowing bubbles you would only see the city which is very nice and the people who dont have flush toilets are the ones who live in shanty towns 'outisde' the city as they are Zulus who like to live the way they used to which is fair enough.

Oh, alright, that sounds better. Capetown also had many of those shantytowns, but the city itself is very nice, especially down by the water. I also read that Joburg is enlisting ole Rudy Giuiliani to clean up the city of crime. He did a great job in NYC, but I have a feeling this'll be different, because aparently much of the crime was from black people moving into traditionally white neighborhoods.
