Steve Nash should have been invited to be in the three point contest too.Maybe it's because he has a sore shoulder.I'm really happy for Kapono as he is having a break out year.He was awesome in college.

David Lee had a great game at the rookie-sophomore challenge last night on TNT. He was referred to as Mr. Perfect for going 14-14 from the field for a 30 point..11 rebound game. He won the MVP. The announcers also stated that he was fan favorite on the knicks and that he and Eddy Curry were the cornerstones of the franchise. His coming out party was last night.
david lee was rippin it out there. he was throwing it down with authority in the paint. i liked how the guy interviewing him at the half asked him why he's not starting for the knicks. i wish he would have said, "because i'm white."

I always thought David Lee underachieved at Florida. He was too unselfish( a common trait among white players), he didn't demand the ball in the paint. There was only one ball to go around and those Florida teams had alot of shooters. Lee got his points the same way he gets his with the Knicks. Rebounding, hustle, and just being instinctually smart about knowing where the ball is at all times. He also showed off his passing skills last night. It's nice to see a white american star get the MVP.

has an article this week noting Lee's productivity and popularity with Knicks fans -- and then congratulates Isiah Thomas (through the vehicle of another of the corporate media's ubiquitous "anonymous sources")for using him as a backup! Some lowlights:
"When was the last time a Knick sported a black eye (at least one courtesy of game action)? David Lee earned the battle scar in a recent win over the Clippers. And while no one is ready to see it as a sign of change in team temperament, it does show why Lee, at least, shines on a nightly basis.
"These days, the rugged play of the second-year forward sparks much of the Garden faithful's sporadic cheers. He's getting 11.1 ppg and 10.8 rpg, one of 12 players in the league averaging double figures in points and boards. After center Eddie Curry, no one's been more instrumental in helping the Knicks get over the depths of last season. . .
"Thing is, when Lee plays at least 40 minutes, the Knicks are 6-2. . . So, if he's money in the clutch, why doesn't he start? Isiah Thomas is convinced Lee is most effective as the first forward off the bench. And Lee's fine with it. "I'm happy either way," he says. "I trust my coach's judgment". . .

Why is every white guy described as rugged...I would see it more as a compliment if someone would put that moniker on a occasional black athlete. So Isiah Thomas is a genuis for playing a extremly productive player who is also a fan favorite. Pretty low standards to earn the title of a genuis.

Well, "rugged" is just one of many caste words. We're always possession receivers, hard workers, scrappy. and my favorite, "throw back player." It's just a word that explains why this white athlete is in the league, because it is assumed they have no talent, and have to make up for that with some kind of superficial trait.

Yeah, deceptive speed is a classic too. I'm waiting for an announcer to say Byron Leftwich is deceptively slow.
This reminds me of a funny story from my high school baseball days. We only had one black guy on our team my senior year. And as it was, this guy was actually the slowest guy onour team. He wasn't fat or anything, the dude was just slow. Everybody always gave him some good natured ribbing for being the slowest player on a team full of whites. He didn't play much. But one time he was inserted into the game as a pinch runner on 1st base. The opposing coach immediately yelled to his pitcher "heads up, speed on first, speed on first." Our dugout erupted in laughter. And it was even funnier that the opposing coach looked so puzzled as to what we all thought was so funny.
