SI.com is reporting the Steelers will name Mike Tomlin new head coach.

I was a Steeler fan most of my life. Looks like things are about to change.

On Pro Football Talk is this quote:

"The move is significant, since it shows that the guy after whom the "Rooney Rule" was named is truly color blind when the time comes to picking the best person to lead his team.

Our concern, frankly, is whether the rank-and-file Steelers fans will be as charitable. We've spent enough time in Pittsburgh to know that, for a northern city, there's a strong undercurrent of racism there. Hopefully, all of the fans will follow the example that the Rooneys have set by making the best decision possible for the future of the franchise, regardless of race.

The hire surely will bring about significant change, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The 3-4 will be out the door, replaced by Tomlin's signature Cover 2. Assistant coaches like defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau will become irrelevant, and popular players like Troy Polamalu might not have the skills to make the shift to the new system.

We really think it's the best move over the long haul. This franchise was still hungover from the completion of a 14-year quest last February in Detroit. A new direction was needed; Tomlin will bring it.

And we've got a strong feeling that, under Tomlin, it won't be another 14 years before the Steelers are hoisting their sixth Lombardi..."

Florio, who is white and (disgustingly) from West Virginia, "knows" that there is a strong undercurrent of (anti-black) racism there. Funny how idiotic white liberal sports writers all "know" that Whites are racists, yet hiring a black coach BECAUSE he is black proves that one is "color-blind"

So... This "best move" means that "popular players like Troy Polamalu might not have the skills to make the shift to the new system..." We can deduce that Florio believes that Polamalu is not very skilled then.

Also, from the SI article: "Under Mike Tomlin, the Vikings ranked No. 1 against the rush this season -- but were tied with the Bengals for last against the pass..." Oh yes
that bodes well. He sure was the best choice!!!Edited by: son of Radovan

Don,how will the Pittsburgh writers andnational media respond to this hiring? I suspect they are ecstatic and will give Tomlin the Kordell treatment for several years.

This article I posted the other day under J. B. Cash's article on "Racist Ingrates" was the tipoff that this might happen and how the media would react to it:

It was as drooling an article about a coaching candidate as I've ever read.

Other media people have been saying that if Tomlin is hired it will be because he is as qualified as Russ Grimm, the only white candidate of the three remaining (the other is Ron Rivera of the Bears).

I expect Tomlin to get Kordell-like treatment from the Pittsburgh media and fans alike. However,Steelers fans are notoriously impatient, and if Tomlin is out of his element the honeymoon will be short, two seasons at most.Edited by: Don Wassall

Funny thing about Tomlin is he is probably very responsible for cutting Dustin Fox and creating a vaunted Vikings pass defense that ranked LAST in the league. The Steelers had a questionable pass defense as well yet were good against the run. This hire makes no sense if it is actually true, why fix something that isn't broken?

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers have narrowed their wish list of candidates to replace Bill Cowher to three names -- Russ Grimm, Ron Rivera and Mike Tomlin -- but have not yet made a decision on their next head coach.

Tomlin isn't the coach just yet.

From ESPN, "The Steelers declined Saturday to confirm they have chosen a coach to replace Cowher, who resigned less than a year after leading the team to its first Super Bowl victory in 26 years.

A report on Sports Illustrated's Web site, SI.com, on Saturday indicated that Tomlin had been chosen as the successor to Cowher, but the Vikings' defensive coordinator told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that no decision had been made."

If the Bears lose tomorrow the Steelers will be able to interview Rivera the next day. If the Bears win they would have to wait until after the Super Bowl, so it makes sense to see how the NFC championship game turns out before hiring a head coach, if they are serious about Rivera that is.

This decision truly makes me sick. The coddling and pandering that the media laid out for Kordell will be nothing compared to what Tomlin will receive. I guess I watched my last Steelers came this past new years eve.

New reports today say Tomlin is the man. The Steelers must be using the University of Alabama Human Resource department.

Black coaches are just like white coaches as far as race of players goes. I don't care. I actually think a few coaches have a lot of Caste neutrality, but it has no effect as there are tons of commentators, writers, scouts, lots of college coaches, and old neo-con yuppies that do have anti-white sympathies.
Come on, would you rather have Jimmy Johnson or Tony Dungy? I always thought that Willingham tried to create the Fighting Black Irish, but I guess he did recruit a good number of white players.

It's not so much the coaches, but the %^#@& media that equates having them in the Super bowl on par with finding a cure for cancer.

I agree. It's not so much that I'm pissed that he is black, it's the media reaction that I can't stomach. He might be a good coach or he might suck, but regardless the media will automatically anoint him as the greatest leader ever. Just listening to the Pittsburgh drive time radio chatter is making my skin crawl. He's already the Mike Vick of coaching in less than 24 hours.Edited by: RedBeard

There maybe some controversy brewing locally regarding the Tomlin hiring/Grimm firing. The local Tribune-Review reporter who originally wrote that Grimm had been offered the job is now asserting that Grimm was indeed offered the position and that the Steelers later revoked the offer. The Rooney's were asked the verify that Grimm had been offered the position and the Steelers spokesman would neither confirm or deny it. The same reporter said that according to sources within the Steelers organization there was a conflict between Dan Rooney and Art Rooney II as to who should get the head coaching position, and Tomlin's race was the deciding factor. It's interesting to see how this will play out or if the mainstream media will pick up the story. It's one thing if the Steelers really thought Tomlin was the best man for the job, but it's another thing if they really did want Grimm but chose to practice racial discrimination instead. If I were Grimm, I'd be filing a complaint with the EEOC.

Eh, good for him. I would like to see more black coaches (just as I would like to see more white RBs and CBs), but I really don't care, I just care about the Lions mainly lol.

Since Tomlin has taken over, the WHITE players are disappearing and have been replaced by blacks.Black assistant coaches and black interpreters are everywhere and YesTHE WHITE Media treats Tomlin like a King.
They are itching to play a black quarterback...so now they have 2.
Tomlin made many coachingerrors but the National announcers let it slide.

Welcome abroad. You're points are certainly valid"¦but is there any way for you to clean up your writing style?

Fellow football fans,
I apologize for my sloppy typing skills.I will take additional time in future, until I stop.
My career of 35 years,as a money manager on Wall Street was stressful, so exercise with barbells was a hobby to blow off steam, shall we say.
The 3 spine surgeries that failed and 12 additional insults to the system via the knife coupled with a 7 year battle with cancer has
held me back.
In closing,is everyone as excited about Peyton Hillis as I am?
