it's being reported the Mike Hass has been signed to the Bears' practice squad...
Hass, a star receiver at Oregon State and winner of the 2005 Biletnikoff award honoring the nation's best receiver, was cut by the New Orleans Saints, but his agent said he signed with Chicago to join the practice squad. Teams trimmed personnel to reach the mandatory roster limit in preparation of the regular season, which begins Thursday.
Hass was the Saints' sixth-round (171st overall) draft choice after setting numerous school records at Oregon State, but questions about his speed and quickness dogged him in the weeks leading up to the draft. And the bevy of receivers on the Saints' roster hurt his chances.
The 6-1, 209-pound Hass had four receptions for 33 yards in four preseason games. He had three catches for 33 yards in the Saints' first exhibition against Tennessee, but didn't see much action in the next two games before catching one pass for five yards against Kansas City in the preseason finale.
"Things didn't go very well for Mike in New Orleans," said Scott Smith, Hass' agent. "They didn't give him much of a chance to show what he could do."
Smith said Hass signed a deal with the Bears on Sunday and was expected to arrive in Chicago later that night.
"The Saints wanted to sign him to the practice squad, but we identfied Chicago as the best opportunity for Mike," Smith said. "They need a guy like Mike. A guy who runs great routes and has great hands."
additionally, Dustin Fox got signed to the Eagles' practice squad, and Kuhn, who looked pretty good running the ball in the preseason for Pittsburgh just got cut from the practice squad.
as for Mike, i would think every team needs a receiver who can get open and catch the ball... maybe i'm unclear about what a receiver's job is.
and who exactly are the "bevy of receivers" in N'Awlins?

I just noticed that Brad Pyatt was cut by the Rams in the final roster cut.He had a very good preseason but to no avail.This guy can fly.Just like Sheldon it makes me sick that he is not starting on a team.They both have incredible speed but I guess that isn't wanted by certain athletes if you know what I talking about.
A player we forgot about is Ethan Kilmer, the White Special Teams Demon from Penn State who was also a standout wide receiver in limited opportunities. Kilmer was timed in the 4.3 range, but Joe Paterno has been too busy the last few years singing the praises of speedy black athletes to take notice.
Kilmerwas signed by the Bengals as a free agent and as best I can tell made the team as a safety. Cincy also signed John Busing to their practice squad. The Bengals also have five players named Johnson on their roster, or roughly ten percent of the team.

Don, i am pretty sure that Kilmer was their 7th round pick... i also found that on Bengals message board:
"I doubt Marvin has favorites but the personal phone call to Kilmer after the draft and the accolades he's given him led me to believe he'd make it... a terror on special teams and by all reports is learning the safety position quickly.. maybe turn out to be a missile on defense in the future.."

McNair didn't seem to notice Drew was on the field and couldn't throw the ball deep enough anyway. I listened to some of Rich Gannon's commentary during the Packers - Titans game. We had Mc Caffrey, Schroeder, Bennett,who have had big yards because the QB was white. I don't think black QB's are going to throw that often to non brothers. The Bears receivers are lousy, over-hyped and underachievingother thanthe aging Muhsin Muhammad and all but one is currently injured to one degree or another. But that hasn't stopped Bears GM Jerry Angelo from raving about them. But I still don't expect Hass to play for them this year unless a few of them are seriously hurt along the way. Hass is getting the standard treatment almost all white receivers are put through by the NFL -- being discarded by several teams over several years untilfinally, once in a while, one actually gets an opportunity to play some.
Look at John Standeford -- the Big Ten's all-time leading receiver was kicked around for two seasons by two organizations before sticking as a backup with the Colts in his third year. He may or may not stick with the Colts now and may or may not get to play some. Remember too that Lovie Smith is the coach who mocked Brock Forsey as resembling a team manager rather than a running back and then cut him, and who also cut Eddie Berlin and Derrick Abney without giving them any opportunity.

Im still in shock Hass got cut. I think Chicago would be a good place for Hass to go due to the fact all the WR's are garbage...I could see him getting playing time if the regular WR's play up to their crappy potential and drop passes etc.

Yes, and it was well-earned by Rogers. Three+ years of injuries and being an embarrassment even to the pandering NFL. If Rogers had the attitude and practice habits of even a sullen, lazy, total loser of aturd he'd still be with Detroit. But he's worse than that. How many of the white football players we discuss don't get an opportunity because they share the same attributes as Rogers?
Schikelgruber, the question you asked was discussed a little bit earlier in this thread. The only answer right now is to make more people aware of the problem. When that number hits a certain critical mass (and I'm not talking about the mythical "majority" that supposedly runs democracies, far less than that is needed), then we'll begin to see challenges to the Caste System at different levels and by different methods. Right now, Caste Football is the only opposition. We've only been around a short time butwe're a harbinger of what's to come. Weneed to welcome the challenge and be motivated knowing that we're part of the solution. We're also fortunate to be able to see what's going on. What would you rather be -- aware of the truth no matter how painful and demoralizing it is at times, or just another one of the blind and deaf lemmings? It's a gift to be able to see the light in times of darkness.

It seems like for a black American to be cut and time in the freak range he has to be an extreme malcontent. For a white player they just say he is workout freak. Or he did exercises specific to the combines. Classic case was Mike Malmula(he was never playing the right position in the pros).Edited by: white is right

Chris Cole sucked as a receiver in college at Texas A&M and rarely played. He went to the combine and ran a 4.37 sec 40 and was drafted by Denver. After 5 years of riding the bench at Denver has was eventually cut, but he was picked up by Jacksonville.
GreatLake mentioned Charles Rogers. I am sure he will be picked up by someone. There is no way that a white player gets that many years in the league without contributing at least on special teams.

Hey, if Pinkston can get picked up by somebody, I'm sure Charles Rogers will end up on some NFL team, somewhere, and more than likely be moved directly into the #2 wide receiver spot without competition.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jacksonville picks him up and makes him the #1 over Matt Jones.
Or Cleveland takes him and bumps Jurevicius to the bench.
After all, Rogers has so much potential, why not take the chance?

Man alive! Its like the wheels fell off while I was away, at least in the NFL. What a crock, Hass getting cut, and the many other posts I have read about! This was not a good way to end my Tuesday.

Hopefully he'll actually get a chance to compete against the anemic Bears receivers. It's amazing how the Peter Warricks of the world get chance after chance, yet some like Hass or Chris Doering have to struggle even to make a practice squad.
That link mentions once again the "bevy of receivers" on the Saints roster as being a main reason why Hass was cut. "Bevy" means "group." All 32 NFL teams have a "bevy of receivers" in training camp. What the article doesn't say is that after Joe Horn, the Saints "bevy" may have been the worst in the league, except for the three white receivers who were waived.
I'm glad Hass didn't sign with the Saints practice squad. He showed some gumption there by not staying with the team that did a number on him. He has an uphill fight, but he is such a talent that I'll predict that he'll be a productive NFL receiver at some point. That point may be years from now, but it'll happen. It's as unjust as can be, but he needs to persevere. With Matt Jones, Drew Bennett, Hass, and Samardzija and Blythe on the horizon along with others in the NFL and in college, the wide receiver position isn't completely hopeless because of all the outrageously talented white receivers out there. I can't freakin' believe it's come to us being happy that our guys are making the practice squad. That's insane.
here is my prediction at what is going to happen for the NFL. In5-10 years, they will see they have become no different than MTV or the NBA. Yes, they will still generate some "buzz" but that will lessen each year, as both the NBA and MTV has. People like us, will gradually simply fade away from caring about the sport, the hoodlums will take over and for a while, it will seem to continue to be the place to be. But that is only a facade. We won't buy jerseys for our kids anymore, I haven't bought any NFL apparel for years, and eventually, the "buzz" will eventually wear off and most importantly the money that comes with it.
Look at MTV and the NBA. In the 80's, these were marketing cash-making machines. But they lost what pays the bills, middle class whites. The teenie boppers and rich-kid wanna-be gangstas do not generate enough revenue to maintain positions of power. The NFL is following the model almost perfectly.
Sad too, I remember my earlier years and loved Kenny Stabler and Dave Casper more than anything. When the Raiders were on, nothing else mattered. Those days sadly are long gone.
