Here are the projected whites starting for Coach Croom this year. For State, its a race to the bottom of the whiteness meter this year.

So the three Division I programs in Mississippi have 10 projected white starters (UM- 3, MSU - 3, USM - 4) out of the 66 possible offensive and defensive positions.

One sad irony is Ole Miss and State will have nearly packed stadiums at every home game with 99% white fools (fans and alumni).

Another irony is Div-IAA Mississippi Valley State, a member of the SWAC, has had more white starters on its football team than its state Division I counterparts the last few years. (The MVSU baseball team has a white coach and is nearly all white.)

Good point Triad. I saw Valley play in 2003 and they had whites starting at Kicker and Punter, although I do know that Jackson State in Mississippi has a white QB in the fold. They aren't quite as white as the "Big 3" but they aren't far off. This true Rebel hasn't had his rear in a seat since 1 game in 2004. I don't know of many others who quit watching since then.

sunshine, Not as someone who will be playing significantly. He is not listed in the top 3 spots for either WR slot. Will Prosser was a starting WR last year but has been demoted to 3rd string this year. Only a severe lack of under-production by his team mates will vault him into the starting spot again. For a while, it looked as though Coach Croom would be fair to whites, but it seems to be changing this year.

Although I have no idea about their current roster, I saw part of a Valley game in '01 or '02. Three of the five O-lineman were white as well as one of the QB's and the kickers/punters (that's as many or more than MSU or UM have projected to start this year). The Valley 2003 program is available online and there are some whites on it.

I do know in the late 1990's the Valley coaches actively recruited some area private school players but the players chose not to go there. Another irony is the Clarion Ledger did a story on the Big 3 not signing a single white player (public or private school) in their recruiting classes around this same time period.

Triad, I remember those years too. In 2003, the only white Ole Miss signed was Robert Lane. I don't recall many white players among those that played at Delta State in 2001 or 2003, but I could be wrong. There are a lot of light skinned blacks on the Valley team, I know, I saw them from the sidelines and after the games, but I am sure they have white kickers because one of them was named MVP for a game they played in a couple of years ago. Trey Butts was his name. I still stand by my earlier statement about them being close, but still not quite as white as the Big 3. If they keep up the recruiting of white players though, it may soon be the other way around. Delta State certainly had more whites starting through 2005 than any of the Division 1 schools in Mississippi. Private school players in the MPSA, and other similar Southern private school leagues, probably get screwed over more than any white players in America.

Here's a hilarious picture and story about Croom and the State practice Tuesday. What all this accomplished I have no clue, but I thought it may make some of your weekends.

Here's the link for the picture. I couldn't get it to show in this post.

Croom makes an entrance
Clarion-Ledger
STARKVILLE â€â€￾ A dental emergency kept Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom away from Tuesday's practices.

When he returned, he did so in memorable fashion.

Through the first practice period Wednesday, Croom was not present, and it appeared he was going to miss another session.

Fifteen minutes later, Croom's assistant Brad Pendergrass drove a golf cart onto the field, as players stopped and watched. From the back of the cart jumped a "player" wearing a red cross jersey signifying an injury, shoulder pads and a helmet.

Turns out, it was Croom.

"Just like all the other players, if you miss practice, you have to wear a red cross jersey," said Croom, during MSU's media day. "I was surprised that I was able to get out there in drills so long without someone knowing who I was."

Croom said an impacted canine tooth - one that grew abnormally and was held below the gum line - became infected a week ago.

At first, he considered pulling it out himself, then he wanted to wait until the bye week in November. "Tuesday was the only day they could do it," he said.

When he returned, practice paused for a few minutes as players could not stop pointing, laughing and head-butting their coach.

"Get your mouthpiece in coach!" one player yelled.

"Buckle your chin strap!" said another.

After 20 minutes of running from station to station in uniform and even participating in some drills, Croom took off his garb and coached the rest of practice.

"Oh my God," senior receiver Omarr Conner said. "I was laughing so hard I couldn't even catch my punts. He's running around like he's young or something. Hilarious."Edited by: Colonel_Reb

State has moved WR Will Prosser back up to number 2 on the depth chart for Thursday's game against South Carolina. I plan on going to the game with a couple of friends, so I'll let you know how many whites those teams really start.

Notes On Mississippi State vs. South Carolina

During the warm ups to the game, I saw 20 whites on State's side and 24 on SC's. SC and State started 4 whites on offense, while SC had 1 white on defense. Lance Long had 4 nice catches at Z(WR) for State. I don't know how I missed him in my preview, but I have included him above. I saw SC's white RB on the field as the right wing man for the punt team. He looks solid and eager to play. Hopefully he will be on the field carrying the rock some before long. Getting to see Steve Spurrier after many years of waiting was cool. I took a picture of Bully the MSU mascot, and Coach Croom as they got off the team bus to go through the brand new Bulldog walk. When I zoomed in on the picture, I noticed that Croom looks much like a bulldog himself. I wish I could upload my picture on here somehow, as it is pretty funny. Anyway, it was sad to see State's QB Henig go down with a broken collarbone in the 2nd quarter. He will be out for weeks, leaving the hapless bullpups with a black redshirt freshman QB at the helm. Granted he was thrown into a tough situation Thursday night, but he threw 2 picks and generated almost nothing in passing. Henig was doing pretty well until he got hurt. I hope he is back as soon as he is physically able. As I stated earlier, WR Will Prosser, the 2005 receiving yardage leader for the team, has moved back to number 2 at his spot. Maybe he will see more action as the season goes along. There was a decent crowd of nearly 51,000 there, but I imagine many, like me, were there not to see State play, but to see Spurrier coach.

The Bulldogs opened a season with consecutive shutout losses for the first time since 1904 and rank last out of 119 Division I-A teams in total offense.

After the Auburn game, Croom told reporters he was "tired of answering questions" about his offense and said he didn't want to do his weekly radio call-in show Monday at a restaurant in Starkville.

For a while Monday night, it appeared Croom wasn't going to show up. But he hurried into the Veranda restaurant about five minutes late to a waiting audience and a line of callers. Croom didn't as much apologize for his comments Saturday as he tried to clarify them.

Croom was greeted with an ovation from fans in the restaurant and fielded 14 calls, including 12 from well-wishers. Two callers, who appeared to be on the verge of making disparaging comments, were cut off.

Article

Croom's third year has been MSU's worst start in 102 years of some relatively mediocre football. It's gotten so bad that they're screening the audience and callers to his show to only expose him to positive comments.

Starting to resemble a George Bush town hall meeting.

Croom will have one more year at State to improve things. If he doesn't start winning next year, they will get someone else.

State won for a change, 16-10 over UAB in OT. WR Will Prosser had 2 catches for 18. UAB Dan Burks had 16 carries for 49 yards. Not a bad day for our white RBs overall today!

WR Lance Long, who leads the team in catches this year, has been demoted to 2nd string for the LSU game. However, Will Prosser has been promoted to the starting position on the other side of the field. I guess it is too much to ask that an SEC team start 2 white WRs. Also, it looks like the starting QB for the next few weeks will be Omarr Conner instead of Trey Rutland. Boy, I'd hate to be a State player right now.

yet the announcers blasted him for not getting the first down at the end of the game. on 4th and about 9, Ole Miss' QB threw a 7-yard out to Long, who despite the wet and slick field made the catch but couldn't stop before going otut of bounds. but it wasn't enough for the announcing team! no, sir.

they kept going on and on about how stupid Long was for not getting the first down. the field, which had caused repeated slippages throughout the game, both before and after the lightning delay, obviously had no effect on him. no, it was his stupidity!

I think its now called the Lincoln Financial Group game of the week instead of Jefferson Pilot, but it could have been the same announcers, I don't know.

Adron Chambers is the eighth MSU football player arrested since April. Chambers, 20, was released from the Oktibehha County Jail at 8:30 a.m. Thursday after he was arrested Wednesday by MSU police for attempted sexual battery stemming from an incident at a dormitory.

The charge was reduced from felony battery to misdemeanor counts of simple assault and indecent exposure before Chambers was released, MSU dean of students Mike White said Thursday night.

Chambers is the eighth MSU football player arrested since April and second since the season opener. He was charged just a day after Croom told reporters at his weekly press conference that he was pleased with the character his players have shown on and off the field this season.

"They've done everything I've asked them to do," Croom said Tuesday. "They're going to class. They're not in the newspaper. We don't have to go get these guys out of jail. And that, I'm proud of them for."

The others include: Derek Pegues, Keith Fitzhugh, Michael Gates, Tray Rutland, Charles Burns and Quinton Wesley were arrested on April 2 for their roles in a Starkville bar fight.

Anthony Summers was arrested on Sept. 2 in Olive Branch for resisting arrest.

Apparently, Coach Croom doesn't read a lot of newpapapers.
