2014 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Western wasn't previewed last year, but they've had 13, 11, 10, 13, 10, 9 and 4 Whites between '06 and '12. Look for 5 White starters this season. With a new head coach in Jeff Brohm, there is the opportunity to reverse some of the losses in recent years, but the recruiting will have to change before that happens. Otherwise, their defensive depth chart will look as bad as it does now or even worse. The few Whites on the two-deep include QB Nelson Fishback, TEs Tyler Higbee and Tim Gorski, RT Matt Nord and DE Tanner Reeves.

NCAA grants sixth season to WKU’s Brandon Doughty

Wednesday, Western Kentucky announced that Brandon Doughty has received a sixth season of eligibility from the NCAA. The quarterback sustained season-ending injuries after playing in only two games each in 2011 and 2012, leading the fifth-year senior to one final year of eligibility in 2015.

This past season, Doughty led the country in passing yards (4,344) and passing touchdowns (44). He was third in attempts (510) and completions (344), and sixth in pass efficiency (163.5).

If he can stay healthy next season (and if Brohm isn't hired away in the next month), I look for Doughty to be among the top 5 QBs drafted in 2016.
