The NY Jets had a great draft by caste standards. Just look at all the guys they got 1st Rd C Nick Mangold, 2nd Rd QB Kellen Clemens, 3rd Rd MLB Anthony Schlegel and SS Eric Smith, 5th Rd TE Jason Pociask. The Jets really upset the caste system diehards with their two "reach" picks in the 3rd Rd becuase they both are white and don't run 4.4 40s. Good to see two Ohio St guys being drafted onto the same team. The NY media will fall in love with Schlegel(after they get over his "reach" pick status) becuase this guy is just a crazy mofo who is funny as heck. Read below to find out how much of a dick Kiper is with his insult of Schlegel.

Draftdaddy showing how much of a prick Mel Kiper is:

We found this draft tidbit regarding Ohio State linebacker Anthony Schlegel from a Jet fan we know that attended the draft yesterday:

"At the draft a few Jets fans joined together to yell "Mort" to get ESPN's Chris Mortensen's attention after the Schlegel pick. My brother yells 'What you think about Schlegel?'

Mortensen responds with a thumbs up and "He's a football player" and shakes his head yes with approval....Meanwhile, Mel Kiper didn't approve, all he did was shake his head and give a thumbs down.

DD.com Comment: Where has the outspoken Mel gone?

In years gone by, Mel would tear into teams for picks he didn't like. After the Schlegel pick, Kiper said he was a bit of a reach, but seemed pretty positive regarding the linebackers talent level.

Schlegel went higher than we expected, we projected him in round 5 or 6...like that matters, right?

But after giving that pick some thought, we recalled how much we liked USC's Lofa Tatupu in 2005, yet listened to the "insiders" who claimed Tatupu was a total Day 1 waste because he ran consecutive 4.85 40's at the Combine at 5' 11". Tatupu wound up as a Pro Bowler in his rookie year and we looked like fools, tearing into Tatupu over his 40 times.

Not saying Schlegel will make the Pro Bowl or start next season, but maybe there is more to a player/linebacker than 40 times alone, right?

Schlegel may have something like 4. 7 or 4.8 speed, but as Chris Mortensen pointed out he's a "player" and has always exceeded expectations and brought his A-Game every week. We've never seen Schlegel embarrass himself on the field and he plays faster than he's timed.

Great post.

I know I'll be watching the Jets a little bit closer now, thankfully for a good reason

Eric Smith is the Michigan State defensive back that was told by college recruiters that he was the wrong color to play DB. His story was carried in the local papers and we posted it here a couple of years ago. He is a great example of an actual case of reported anti-white racism. Of course no one but us cared. Maybe someday he may tell us even more.

You know, Chris Mortensen seems like one of the most pro-white commentators out there. He was one of the biggest Matt Jones supporters last year, and it seems like whenever a white player is brought up, he will be the lone defender. I know that his son plays college football, so he proabably has firsthand knowledge of the caste system (but can't openly say anything).

I agree, Mortensen is the least biased talking head that I'm aware of on ESPN.

Chris Collinsworth was ok a while back and sometimes Boomer Esiason can be fair.Mortensen is above average. If only we could hear what these guys are really thinking.Guys like Jimmy "the greek" killed those days off forever.Everyone is so P.C. so that they can protect their job.I understand job security, but I hate the double standard how some people can say whatever they want and always get a free pass.

Yeah I know a couple of guys who know Eric Smith from back home and they said that he was a jack of all trades in high school. He played QB, WR, CB, and safety and was a beast on the field. You gotta love these new Eric Manginni Jets where they're not afraid of angering Kiper and other draft "experts" by "reaching" and taking white non o-linemen that run over a 4.6 40. Oh yeah I've been starting to notice too Mortensen giving white guys a break and not breaking their balls. lol Does anyone who what position and college team Mort's son plays for?Edited by: whiteCB

Release: 09/02/2005
OUTLOOK: He spent his first year in Fayetteville learning the Razorbacks' offensive system and watching record-setting quarterback Matt Jones smashing records. Now he will compete for the starting job with at least a pair of other signal callers in preseason camp. He started slow in spring drills, but rallied in the final week to make up ground. Robert Johnson emerged from the spring with a slight edge in the quarterback derby, but Mortensen and Cole Barthel are right on his heels as co-second team listings on the preseason depth chart.

2004: He took snaps with the UA scout team offense during his redshirt season.

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER: The 2003 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class-A Offensive Player of the Year recipient posted a stellar career at Landmark Christian School for Coach Kenny Dallas. He completed 159-of-269 pass attempts for 2,565 yards and 29 touchdowns in his senior season. He was named to the first team all-state squad by The Associated Press and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He earned all-state honors three times in his prep career. The AJC also named him the Atlanta City/South Metro Offensive Player of the Year (included all high school classifications) twice. He was a two-time Region 5-A Most Valuable Player and All-North Georgia First Team Class A award winner. He completed 151 passes on 241 pass attempts for 2,270 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior. He earned honorable mention all-state honors for that campaign. He was one of three juniors nationally to be selected as a "Ball Boy" to the Elite 11 quarterback camp in 2002. He participated in the North-South Georgia All-Star Game. His high school team posted a combined 29-7 record in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He was selected to the Tom Lemming's Prep Football Report All-America squad. The same outlet ranked him as the No. 25 overall quarterback in the country including the No. 1 quarterback in Georgia. He is rated as the No. 29 pro-style quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com. He is listed as one of the nation's "Super Prospects" by College Sports.com. Max Emfinger has him ranked as the No. 13 drop-back quarterback and the No. 27 overall quarterback in the country. He is rated as the No. 23 prospect in Georgia by SuperPrep. He participated in the Elite 11 quarterback trials in the summer of 2004. He received the Headmaster's Award for student leadership in high school. He was also recruited by LSU, Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina State, North Carolina and Hawaii.

PERSONAL: Born Nov. 24, 1985, he is the son of Chris and Micki Mortensen. His father, Chris, is an NFL analyst for ESPN. He was a member of the 2004-05 Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll. He currently serves as the president of the Student Athletes Advisory Committee. He is enrolled in the Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences and is majoring in communications.

I love how Mangini did this draft - didn't draft guys purely on their combine numbers, but looked at their college production and character. All of their first day, and all the guys I know of in their second day are good hard working football players. D'Brick is modest and tough, Mangold is a great leader in the trenches, Clemons was a great leader and has good potential, Shlegal is a brutal, tough hard worker Eric Smith is a hrad hitter, hard worker who struggled with injuries a bit. Brad Smith was known to be a great leader and inspirational for his team mates. These are great locker room influences who will always put the team first. Mangini must feel that 'me first' guys have hurt them in the past and is attempting to overcome that.

Yes whiteRB the one thing all of these guys have in common is leadership and character. Mangold was a captain his senior year, Schlegel was a captain his soph. year at Air Force(the school he was at before transfering to OSU), D'Brick was a captain, Eric Smith was a captain I think, and wasn't Clemens and Brad Smith as well. So yes Mangini is actually a coach who says character counts and backed it up.

Sean Salisbury seems to be a pretty good commentator on ESPN as well. Alot of folks were positive for Matt Jones but Salisbury went one further and predicted that he would make the Pro-Bowl as a rookie WR at one point during the last NFL season. I did a double take when I heard that on the televitz!

Also: anyone else think that maybe the Jets are attempting to emulate the success (and relatively high number of White athletes on the Roster) of the Patriots???

Finally someone gives this kid a chance.I just don't understand how no teams will interested in his skills. This kid can run a 4.5 in the 40 and is as powerfull as they come.Just ask the countless guys that have tried to tackle him and been dragged down the field holding on like they are on a bull.I am so happy for Nick and I really hope he can fit in there.Their feature r.b. is getting quite old.You never know.Let me dream the impossible dream of a white starting running back within two years.Way to go Jets for at least giving him the opportunity!!!

The real question is will the Jets let him try out at RB or FB his caste position. Although if Hartigan had to choose a team to go to the Jets are the ideal team seeing as how they actually like character players and seem to be giving whites a shot at positions. I know Hartigan is a big back, 235 lbs, so that sets him up ripe for being switched to FB. However, when you look at the statistics 5.5 ypc, 4.5 40, and just great rushing stats in general, if this guy was black nobody would be trying to move him to FB. Hartigan deserves a shot at HB!

I couldn't agree with you more whiteCB.I have been one of Nick Hartigans biggest supporters over his college days.He could be just as good or even better than Jerome Bettis.Nick could bring back memories of Larry Czonka and John Riggins.I really am hoping the Jets can see the incredible potential of this kid.Nick could also help run the team after his playing days are over.He is as smart as they come and doesn't even need football. He kind of reminds me of the Klitschkos in boxing and how intelligent they are.Talk about great genetics. These guys got the brawn, speed and the brains!

I saw on KFFL that Hartigan was signed today. DonTrell Moore was released so this might be another good sign. I know it was reported he signed with the Jets a few weeks ago but this is the first time I saw anything on kffl about it.

The Jets are looking to be a fun team to watch.Maybe they will be the new Rams,Colts.I'm curious to see how they treat N.Hartigan.I remember a few years ago when they gave Chad Brinker a slight chance at rb.He never lasted but at least they gave him a look. It's nice to see the Jets are at least giving Hartigan a chance. This kid could be a starter in the future if they would just belive in him.He is like a Mike Hass of running backs. At least they have Hartigan listed as a rb as of right now.

Found this on draftdaddy.com:

While a significant number of Jets fans on message boards and inside chat rooms brutally attacked the franchise for "reaching" in the 3rd round for Anthony Schlegel (ILB) and Eric Smith (SS), both have done nothing but impress the Jets new coaching staff and a skeptical New York media so far.

Pitt, I saw that too. Did you catch what was written a little further down:

Fourth round pick Brad Smith, a former Big 12 QB moving to WR in the pros, has struggled with injuries. He's also had trouble getting off the line at wide receiver. It's still early, but some in the NY media feel this pick, which Jets fans seemed to have universally loved, might turn out to be a "reach".

The Jets fansinstantly loathed the white LB and white safety the team drafted, but "universally love" the black afflete/project who already appears to be a "reach." That sums up the attitude of white sports fans perfectly.
