The 2014 Youth Olympics for athletics starts on August 20, 2014. We are only a day away from seeing track and field events. I'm excited
for the 2nd day of competition as we will get to see a favorite here at this board try to become the fastest teenager on earth. Kristoffer Hari will be in the 100 heats along with some other boys & girls we root for here. Here is a link to the start lists and results.

Kristoffer Hari has made the 100 meters finals of the 2014 Youth Olympics 100 Meters. He will have a tough test as he didnt run as good as usual finishing a rare 2nd in his heat. Hari had won 9 consecutive races prior to that heat. Not sure how hard he was running but he has not raced much this year due to extreme growing pains. Yes he has gotten taller. Here is a link to the guys in the final. Let's go Kristoffer Hari. :clap2:

Guys I predict we will have a new superstar in the sprints in the coming years. This time it will be a young girl running for Poland. I can't remember too many elite female polish sprinters so it will be great to see from such a small country. The girl is beautiful but her talent exceeds her beauty. She destroyed the field by a mile to advance to the 2014 World Olympic Games 100 meters finals. Her name is Ewa Swoboda and she has elite athletcism. It will be a shock if she doesn't bring home the gold. Here is a list of the heats along with her winning effort in the fastest time of any girl on the track. Samantha Geddes of Australia is also in the finals. Glad to see that.

I recognize Swaboda. I watched her run the semis and finals of the 100m at the World Jr Championships in July in Eugene. She was the only white girl in the final, and finished 5th.
I had no idea she was so young as to also be able to run in the World Youth Championships.
Go Ewa!

Results are in for the women's 100m, and Swoboda was DQ'd. Must have false started. What a shame!
A Chinese girl won the race, a Cypriot 2nd, and Geddes from Australia 3rd.
Swoboda surely would have won this race. She beat the 2nd place girl from Cypress by .35 (a huge margin) in the heats.
Interesting that the top 4 girls (if you include Swoboda) in this race were all non-blacks.

Disappointing results from the boys 100m.
A kid from Zambia won by 1/100th of a second over a kid from Japan. Trae Williams of Australia was another 3/100ths behind.
Kristoffer Hari again with a slow time of 10.80. Don't know what happened to him at these games.

Such a shame about Ewa Swoboda. She was a lock to win the gold medal. The poor girl must be devasted.

It was nice to see Australia win a few medals in the boys and girls sprints finals. Two bronzes are not all that bad and hopefully it
will encourage other youngsters there to stick with track. I also hope that these 2 medal winners continue their sprinting careers.

As for Kristoffer Hari, he has rarely raced all year. He has had severe growing pains. He has been in so much pain that he hasn't been able to train for months at a time if at all. He admitted he was out of shape but said he wanted to run since he has been resting his body all year trying to get through this growth spurt. It was also reported before the World Youth Olympics started that he had the flu and was
considering pulling out of the competition. His dad/coach and Kristoffer decided to run as a way to thank his fans. The result was almost to be expected although I was hoping for a miracle. I still have no doubt what so ever that he will be an incredible sprinter. This year means nothing. You guys can give me hell if I'm wrong but watch what this kid does next summer. Fireworks for sure!
