I haven't seen Mark Malone on "NFL Live" or any other sports show this
season. I can't remember for sure, but I don't think he was on ESPN at
all last season, either. Does anyone know where he is, if he's still an
announcer, and why he's not on any of the pro football discussion
shows? IMHO, he was one of the few announcers in recent times who was
never obnoxious and did a pretty decent job.

Malone was always very competent, but he fit in very well with everyone else who has ever been on "NFL Live" in that compliments about white players were sparse and reserved while the positive adjectives flowed freely when discussing black players. Of course he was reading a prepared script.

It's kind of ironic because Malone was a terrific athlete at Arizona State. He was a first round draft pick of Pittsburgh in '80. He was a 6'4" QB with legitimate 4.4 speed (now he would have to go the Matt Jones route and be forced to play tight end). When the Steelers were short of receivers because of injuries, they plugged Malone in on a Monday Night game in Oakland on an emergency basis and he had a 90 yard receiving touchdown from Terry Bradshaw, a team record that was tied in '01 but still stands.
