Hasselbeck is giving his all. I feel sorry for him, guy is trying to carry the team and they're not cooperating.

They just announced that Willie Parker's 75-yard TD run is the longest in Super Bowl history.

What a touch of the poetic. The Seahawks last play epitomized their entire game - another dropped pass by Jerramy Stevens.

Joe J. led the Seahawks receivers with 5 grabs for 93 yards. He should have had twice as many balls tossed his way. Stevens dropped more passes than Joe caught for goodness sake. Believe me, if Stevens was white, Holmgren would have choked him and sent him packing long before this game.

If Stevens were white he would have caught his passes and the Seahawks might have won.

I thought this game was one of the worst officiated I have seen in a Super Bowl, and I've seen em all since 1980. In particular I felt the illegal block on Hasselbeck was rediculous, and then Roethlisberger did the same thing on the reverse TD pass and it was hailed by the announcers as a good block.

The holding call on Lockheart was also a "phantom" call, but on the run by Willie Parker a similar block on the Seahawks OLB was let go.

The push off on Jackson was legit, but seldom called in the NFL, so I felt like it wasn't consistent to suddenly call it in the biggest game of the year. If they called it every time then I say Great, but come on, its like traveling in the NBA these days.

All in all the Stevens drops did in the Seahawks, perhaps the worst performance in a Super Bowl since O'Donnell did in the Steelers with his well timed and misplaced passes.

I didn't have an interest in either team, but I hate to feel like a team has to beat the officials as well as the opponent and I sure had that feeling tonight. However, I have to say that Holmgren's decision to punt with 6ish minutes left was gutless. You are down two scores and you are going to put more faith in a possible defensive stop, score and successfull onside kick then a 4rth and 8 or whatever it was. I like my odds a lot better going for it in that situation, besides you were near midfield, you could still force a Pittsburgh punt with a 3 and out, which is what you would have needed for a reasonable shot at a win.

Bart, I mentioned the same thing about 4 posts up, but it was an edited comment so I think everyone missed it. I wonder how many writers or fans outside of those here on Caste Football will even notice how great a receiver Jurevicius is. The guy plays well in every game, but he especially steps up in the big ones - this Super Bowl and his last one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are prime examples.

The next receiver after J.J. was Booby Engram, with 6 catches for 70 yards. One more catch with 20 less yards from the second receiver on the team. D-Jack ended up with 5 catches for 50 yards, which if I'm not mistaken were all earned in the first half.

Not bad for a guy who is the third string receiver, huh?

Let's hope Joe J. signs with someone in the offseason who will make him the starter he deserves to be. He should still have four or five productive seasons left. Maybe he'll be like Ed McCaffrey, who didn't get to start until his late 20s, and put up big numbers in his 30s. Anyone watching the game, except maybe for NFL coaching personnel and the members of the media, could see that he has all the tools.

Joe J. To Dallas. Bledsoe would love to throw the ball to him. Great game tonight for Joe! Great game in general.

J.J. is also dang hard to tackle and bring down. I truly believe he could have been one of the greatest ever wr's of all time if just consistently given the opportunity. That combination of size, strength, speed and leaping ability was unmatched by any other player on the field today.

Yeah, he caught Al Michaels and Madden by surprise on the Seahawk's last drive. "Jurevicius is down at the - oh, no wait he isn't down he's still going..." But nary a mention of his size, strength, speed, athleticism... nor even his heart or 'motor.'

Why do they keep calling hima a possession WR? The man has speed and jumping ability. just like you said!

That's because he is white "country boy". He couldn't be anything else but a possession wr!!

Great posts guys.I really enjoyed the game despite alot of bad calls.My Steelers pulled it off.Joe Jurevicius was on fire,but didn't get nearly enough balls thrown his way.The officiating has to get better.What good is instant replay if you don't make the correct call after viewing the replay.Anyways,as Don said,ONE FOR THE THUMB!

first of all, yet again in 2006 playoffs we've had terrible officiating... Seahawks got robbed, imo...
Why didn't they throw to rock solid JJ more is beyond me... 5 catches for 93 yards is great for him (plus he was a starter in this game, wasn't he) but they kept forcing balls to Stevens who managed to drop what, 4 catchable balls???

Hasselbeck threw deep twice to Jurevicius, but both throws were off target. If even one had connected, JJ would have had a huge game.

But it's a great night for Steelers fans. They had so much emotion invested in this game that there would have been mass heartbreak for months afterward if their heroes would have lost. Seahawks fans can be consoled that their team got to the big game for the first time. After losing so many conference championship games in recent years and losing to Dallas in Super Bowl XXX, Pittsburgh fans would have taken a loss very hard. I know, I've criticized the over-hype and ridiculous worshiping that the NFL and its teams and players get, but someone has to emerge the champion each year, so it's great that it's the Steelers.

And at least he said after the game that he's retiring. To have to go through all the Jerome adulation again next year would be way too much. I have a lot of respect for Bettis as a person and for his career, but he was only a part-timer the past few seasons. This was the perfect farewell scenario for him and he's smart enough to see it.

Every network that televises the NFL or college football is going to be fighting to hire him as an announcer. And Will Perdue need not apply!

All the calls did seem to go against the Seahawks. But the Steelers had three big plays and that made the difference.

Plenty of passes thrown towards Joe J. (when he was on the field). It's just that the bad throws Hasselback had all seemed directed his way. Those deep balls were way off the mark.
