Loly : damn...

About Christophe. Eurosport says 19,80 made Christophe the 15th best performer in 200, behind :

1. Usain Bolt (19''19)
2. Michael Johnson (19''32)3. Tyson Gay (19''58)
4. Xavier Carter (19''63)
5. Wallace Spearmon (19''65)
6. Frankie Fredericks (19''68)
7. Walter Dix (19''69)
8. Pietro Mennea (19''72)
9. Mike Marsh (19''73)
10. Carl Lewis (19''75)
11. Joe DeLoach (19''75)
12. Ato Boldon (19''77)
13. Yohan Blake (19''78)
14. Shawn Crawford (19''79)
15. Christophe Lemaitre (19"80)

In my opinion, Christophe car run near 19,7x in 2012 and maybe beat Walter Dix or Fredericks who knows ?

In 3 or 4 years, I see Christophe run under 19,60. And why not, beat Tyson Gay.

HOLY RAVIOLI!!!!!!!! Christophe just killed the french national record. What a race. He ran a very good turn but still was only 4th coming into the home straight. Then he turned on the jets and ran a spectacular time of 19.80! Brilliant. Magnificent. Incredible.
He said in an interview that he lost speed in the bend because he try hard to run inside the lane. He finaly managed to run a 19.80. Let's imagine the potential time he could run when he'll have correct the drive phase and the bend !!! 19.60 doesn't sounds impossible for me with all the good conditions within 2 years

He probably will beat ER on 200m within few years! And maybe ER on 100m too (even though more difficult, I think).

In 2007, when Bolt was 21, his best time was 19,75... Really near Christophe.
But in 2003, Bolt ran an amazing 19,30...

CONGRATULATIONS to Christophe Lemaitre!!!:hail:

I noticed than CL was gaining on Dix and Bolt in the final 50 meters. When Chris gets his start and bend phases perfected, lookout because he CAN win Gold!

So much for CL being a "choker."

an interview with pietro mennea about CL in todays french newspaper

in it, he says CL has no limit, he is not yet fully developped, he is still progressing
the reporter tolds him that CL is not really muscular, like pietro, and pietro answers that he was still able to run really fast :smokin: and says that CL is 1.90m and 81 kg, wich is not bad
he says CL can beat his record of 19.72

then, the reporters remarks that both CL and pietro are whites
pietro answers that a champion can be of every color, white, black, yellow, green...and that you can find a champion every where, not only in jamaica, USA or africa
he says that the fact that black athletes beat white athletes in sprint is not a fatality (something you can't change, i didn't know how to translate)
then he talks about armin hary, borzov, wells, and about him, to say that they made history in sprint

when asked how CL will do in the 200m final (the interview was before) he says edward has run discretly and might surprise everybody (just to say i was not the only on to think so )

I agree. CL has proven once again his incredible aptitude to keep a very high speed while others start slowing down. Bolt difficultly ran the last 20 meters. And CL gave the impression that he could run 10 meters more. A very good sign for the future.

Moreover, CL has not yet reached his peak level. He can improve his performances until Olympic Games next year.
Pietro Mennea's ER will be broken for sure in the near future and Christophe will be the fastest white man ever. Fantastic.

I noticed his bend unlike in at the Diamond League meet was decent for him. On the television that I saw the final it didn't look like he was slowing down or having severe inertia. I'm glad he was able to run down Ndure as another 4th place finish would have been tough for him to handle mentally. I knew if he ran a decent bend a sub 20 was a virtual lock.

Nice to finally have power back (hurricane) and see that run by Christophe. God, I love the lad!!

Well, ever since he raced Bolt in the 200 earlier this season, I've said he has a real shot at the Olympic gold (yes, gold) in the 200 next year, and I'm sticking with it. Because, look:

1) he had the fastest time of any qualifier, including Bolt.
2) Bolt did not jog in the final. He grimaced and pushed and even leaned at the end. Bolt gave it everything.
3) LeMaitre can gain a tenth just by improving his first thirty meters. He can gain more than that if he concentrates on curve running and learns how to do it (Bolt proves that a tall man can pull it off). And he can gain even more by concentrating primarily on the 200 and building his endurance.

Put it all together, throw in some physical maturation, and, hell, yeah, he's going to win the Olympic 200 gold next year. Usain is gone. All hail Christophe!
Yes I think physical maturation is the key. I'm not sure London will be the time but by Rio he can win either sprint or maybe both if his body get's stronger and the maturation doesn't favour one event. Bolt to me has peaked out and is a very old looking 25 years old. If you saw him and didn't know his age you would think he was 28 to 32.

Christophe has become the 4th white man to go sub 20 and is the only european sprinter to dip under both 10 and 20 seconds! It is phenomenal when you think about it. I also have to say that the possibility of him being the ony white man capable of this is a complete lie. There are others with the ability and we need to steer more white athletes into the sprints. I have said for decades now that if whites ever fall in love with the sprints like the X Games, then you will see some serious changes taking place. Most white kids just don't watch or participate in athletics at the numbers neccessary to have more of them at the top of the bell curve. The future just might be different however as kids now watch history being made by "the master"

I'm so proud of this kid. What an epic performance. I also want to add that people need to realise that his potential in the 100 is incredible too. It's just that the 100 has no room for error unlike the 200. When he gets his drive phase right, he will be almost unbeatable. They will make movies about this kid. What a superstar. I loved him and Bolt joking with each other. When Christophe put the french flag in front of Bolt during the interview. He is slowly coming out of his shell. He will always be a little shy but he has the heart of a lion and he is fearless. I love this kid! Way to go PepeLeFlew!!

Absolutely incredible! Congratulations to Christophe, and this puts an icing on the cake for what's been a great championships for White athletes! They are back with a vengeance!

This also proves had Christophe gotten a better lane draw in the 100m, he would've most likely medaled there also. This has to be a huge confidence booster for him, 19.80!!! The best is yet to come, and I can't wait for London.

I'm extremly hopeful that we'll enjoy many more years of watching this stud, the rest of this decade, in fact. He has now officially arrived as a world class sprinter!

Has anybody mentioned the huge workload this kid has put in this summer? I mean the boy is obviously not doping he has shown fatigue( or maybe more accurately windedness) at the end of all his heats, and then to perform as he has at this level now, just attests to how great his performance was this year(yes in the 100m too).I have a tough time imagining LeMaitre limitations. Somebody mentioned Bolts looking old, I remember reading somewhere recently he is suffering with scoliosis(side effect from HGH possibly?).

Couple of happy guys right here. Bolt for redeeming himself after the 100m false-start and Christophe for entering the world stage with his first ever (and first of many!) medals. I believe Bolt and rest of the Jamaicans (and Americans) realize that they have some new company now at the top, and the proper respect for Christophe will be forthcoming.

let's compare Bolt and Lemaitre 's time at the same age (21):
100m
Lemaitre: 9.92
Bolt:10.03
200m
Lemaitre: 19.80
Bolt: 19.75

Not bad!

At the age of 22 Bolt had a huge improvement. It will be hard for Christophe to make the same, but let's hope.
Bolt 22
100m: 9.69
200m:19.30
