Most Dangerous US City in 2009

Well, it's that time of year again to see which U.S. city is the most dangerous to live in. Of course, we certainly must never forget that "there is crime everywhere" and "all races commit crimes".

(Yes, but not at the same rate!)

And the winner is....

TRENTON, N.J. â€" St. Louis overtook Camden, N.J., as
the nation's most dangerous city in 2009, according to a national study
released Sunday.


The study by CQ Press</span></span></font> </font>found St. Louis had 2,070.1 violent crimes per 100,000 residents,
compared with a national average of 429.4. That helped St. Louis beat
out Camden, which topped last year's list and was the most dangerous
city for 2003 and 2004.


Detroit, Flint, Mich., and Oakland, Calif., rounded
out the top five. For the second straight year, the safest city with
more than 75,000 residents was Colonie, N.Y.


The annual rankings are based on population figures
and crime data compiled by the FBI. Some criminologists question the
findings, saying the methodology is unfair.


Greg Scarbro, unit chief of the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program</span></span></font>, said the FBI also
discourages using the data for these types of rankings.


Kara Bowlin, spokeswoman for St. Louis Mayor Francis
Slay, said the city actually has been getting safer over the last few
years. She said crime in St. Louis has gone down each year since 2007,
and so far in 2010, St. Louis crime is down 7 percent.


Erica Van Ross, spokeswoman for the St. Louis Police
Department, called the rankings irresponsible.


"Crime is based on a variety of factors. It's based
on geography, it's based on poverty, it's based on the economy," Van
Ross said.


"That is not to say that urban cities don't have
challenges, because we do," Van Ross said. "But it's that it's

The only factors involved are geography, poverty, and the economy, huh?

Hmmm, and the rankings are "irresponsible", but not the thugs creating the crimes?

Yeah "geography." That's right up there with "dangerous streets" and "bad area" as if it was the asphalt or buildings doing the crimes. Of course they never mention things like poor impulse control, lack of empathy for others, lack of long term planning and a predisposition to violence. They certainly don't mention how these issues are so often found in our dark, low I.Q. "equals." I guess the police can't just come out and say "we've got a lot of negroes, what do you expect?" but there's a lot more truth in that than blaming "poverty" whatever that's supposed to mean.

El Paso is listed as the safest city which will give support to the idea Hispanics are law-abiding. But this is a false impression. Hispanics are only less criminal than blacks, and virtually every U.S. city is chock full of blacks. El Paso is unusual because it has few blacks (despite a large military base) so it has less (reported) crime.

Majority white cities tend to have significant black populations (Minn.-St. Paul, Milwaukee, etc.) which drive up their crime rates.

Another issue is what constitutes a 'city'. Los Angeles County has 88 cities. When referring to Los Angeles city what is being discussed?

So much of this 'journalism' is useless because it doesn't address the main concern of the reader, 'What neighborhood, in what city, is safe to move to for a person in my circumstances, young white family, retired white couple, white professional starting a career, white engineer looking to start a consulting firm, etc.?' 'What part of St. Louis is black and therefore unsafe?' 'Do Jews have a lock on the commercial property market?' 'Are the public schools overrun with Mexicans necessitating private school?'

Instead it's all about the 'news' of blacks in a particular city killing other blacks at a higher rate than in another city. It could be that an 'unsafe' city is really a good fit for some white people.

So true who's to say one side of a city is perfectly safe for a family to move to and the other side is a cesspool of minority gang fueled violence. I know of many cities here in Ohio where one side is safe and the other makes a white person feel like they're in Harlem. Of course whether an area is safe and it has a non-minority filled school district is a whole another issue.

The thing here in Jersey is we have an abundance of towns you wouldn't want to walk around in day or night. Such as Trenton (state capitol), Camden, Newark, Patterson, Elizabeth, Asbury Park, Long Branch, Atlantic City, etc. Few states have as many real bad places as us.

Detriot always represents though. The are the most consistent crime riden city. I remember Robocop was about Detriot and that movie was made more then twenty years ago. Other bad cities include Baltimore, New Orleans, and Chicago. Ironically I've lived in Austin, Boston, New York, Madison, Wis, and Portland Oregon. None of those cities have nearly as much crime, I might have something to do with the fact that they are less black.

Actually, many parts of Chicago are very affluent and safe for such a large city, just go to the white neighborhoods. The only tricky thing is that it can literally be the difference of just a block as to whether you're in a good neighborhood or not. It's really bizarre to see well-kept lawns and houses with nice cars in the driveway, then drive a few blocks and see that same street littered and houses either in ruins, vacant, or demolished, and see "homies" hanging out doing God knows what.

I am fortunate to live on the Oregon coast. All we need to worry about is Big Foot and Tsunamis

If I had the $, I'd take the family & head to WY, ID or north Alaska.

I live in a small city of around 45,000. Until one of our neighboring cities over took us we were the murder capital of our state. Except for an area known as "The School Yard" A neighborhood centered around what was once the black High School. There have been a grand total of 3 murders in the last 50 years. So if you removed the African Influence from my home town it would be a very safe place to live. Coincidently, two of the three of the murders that occurred outside "The School Yard" were committed by Blacks.

In my town of about 100,000 In SE Wisconsin it is still very segregated in areas.Both of the high schools draw from an areas on the outskirts in towns. Pleasant Prairie is slowly becoming our sister city in fact they have grown considerably. Their population of about 18,000 is 94% compared to Kenosha,where I live. I live in a middle class neighborhood that has really whitened up since the 80's. But I'm still about 8 blocks away from the hood.

Anyways peoplefrom the Chicagoland areaare moving to Wisconsin. More Illiniosians means more Black Rbs.. Sadly I think my area could get a lot worse caste wise.. WIth Milwaukee and cities like Chicago and Zion we are getting wedged in.

Yes Chicago on the South Side has one White and one Black neighborhood that are ringed by burned out blighted neighborhoods. The White one is a former German-American neighborhood that is still majority White and the Black neighborhood was a White neighborhood that now has some famous Blacks that live there. I think Ali's third wife lived in this neighborhood.
