</A>Thousands of soccer fans stampeded outside a stadium Sunday before an exhibition game between Nigeria and North Korea, leaving 15 people injured, including one police officer who was seriously hurt.

Several fans fell under the rush of people, many wearing Nigeria jerseys. The Makhulong Stadium in the Johannesburg suburb seats about 12,000 fans.

The mayhem happened only five days before the start of the World Cup, the first to be held in Africa.

"At this moment we have 14 civilians that were slightly injured in the process, one policeman seriously injured," police spokesman Lt. Col. Eugene Opperman said outside the stadium. The injured were being treated at a hospital, he said.

Opperman said tickets for the game were given out for free outside the stadium.

"What then occurred was large groups of people gathered outside the gates wanting to come in and wanting to get free tickets. Unfortunately in the process, the gates were opened and there was a stampede," Opperman said.

Soccer's international governing body said it had nothing to do with the ticketing.

"FIFA and the OC [local organizing committee] would like to reiterate that this friendly match has no relation whatsoever with the operational organization of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, for which we remain fully confident," FIFA said in a statement.

Police spokesman Col. Hangwani Mulaudzi added that because this was an exhibition game, the Nigerian team -- the designated host -- was responsible for security, not World Cup organizers. Once trouble broke out, he said, police stepped in.

"I think the fans were excited to come and see their heroes who will be participating in the World Cup," he said.

One police officer blamed FIFA for the trouble.

"FIFA made the tickets free and now look," said the policeman, who refused to identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media. "FIFA wanted them free."

One fan, wearing a South Africa rugby jersey and bleeding from the head, said the rampaging crowd overpowered him.

"I fell down and people just fell over me," Japhta Mombelo said. "That crowd is overpowering. The police have told me to stay around and they will organize an ambulance but I am still waiting."

The first rush came when the gates opened to allow fans into the stadium. Police soon closed the gates, but when they were reopened, a second rush occurred, with more people falling and being run over.

"When we were coming in they were just stepping on us," said Princess Mbali, who was wearing a green South Africa shirt. "I thought I was dying. I was at the bottom."

Shortly after the second rush, the gates were closed again and much of the crowd dissipated.

"The police aren't saying anything, just go and watch the match," Mbali said. "How can we watch the match when we are hurt? Maybe my ribs are broken. No one is helping us and we are South Africans."

The injured policeman was bloodied in the crush and later taken away on a stretcher. Other fans who appeared to be lightly injured walked away from the scene as it calmed down.

The Tembisa Stadium is nothing like those built or renovated for the World Cup. It has concrete terraces and is surrounded by a fence with gates and no turnstiles.

The Nigeria and North Korean teams were lining up for the national anthems when the second surge happened. They had no idea what was going on outside.

The match was suspended for about 10 minutes shortly after the second half began, but it restarted with Nigeria leading 1-0. The Nigerians won 3-1.

Security was also increased as the match went on.

"We have security plans that are there," Mulaudzi said. "I think this is one of those isolated cases where we did not anticipate the large number of people who would be interested in this game."

Such chaos is not uncommon to soccer. Last year, FIFA fined Ivory Coast's federation $46,800 after 22 people died in a stampede at a World Cup qualifying match.

celticdb15, while I will be watching as many WC matches as possible and rooting for white teams, there's also a part of me that wishes we see some serious TNB during these games, especially by the fans of the African teams. This is the biggest stage in the world, and what better way to expose the incompetence of the South African authorities, while also seeing the true colors of some these blacks.

Let's wait and see how it all turns out.

This is why I love being white. You will never see white football fans engage in riots. It's an act by inferior races like blacks or mexicans.

Not quite. Futbol riles up fans of every color. S. Africa just does not have the police force necessary to handle the riots and that is why I am mad. They were virtually handed the keys to the tournament. S. Africa's own police cheif even stated that he hoped the U.S.A. would not make it to the second round b\c Obama would come and he knew they would not have the protection.

I smell a inevitable disaster looming when the World Cup starts with many problems surfacing as South Africa embarrasses itself on the world stage. I am sure the MSM will cover up as much as possible, but seeing is believing.

I'll bet the MSM will be surprised if things don't turn out well. (They genuinely believe South Africa is a multiracial paradise). Then at the first sign of trouble or poor organizational skills they'll trot out their usual excuses about discrimination and poverty.

Celticdb15 is right. There have been many riots in Europe. A couple of years ago in Sicily someone was killed in a fight outside the stadium.

In England they have to separete the fans with cops in the stands so they don't fight. It's much better than it used to be in England, Italy is probably worse now.Heysel Disaster

Lovebeingwhite - the football hooligan is an ever-present element of European football. Here is a bit of footage...

(A) CARDIFF CITY SOUL CREW; (B) ENGLISH HOOLIGANS RIOTING DURING EURO 2000:

Here are montages of variousdisturbances involving Polish hooligans (I'd definitely recommend muting the sound, as some passages are accompanied by Polish rap

)

The "football hooligan" subculture is, unfortunately, extremely popular in Poland (as Polish teams areso useless these days, many of these idiots take perverse pride in being the "best" - read, "most troublesome" -hooligans in Europe).Firms form "alliances" to combine "operations" against common enemies. Such alliances may even transcend borders - for example, Legia Warszawa have an agreement with Holland's Den Haag,as hasGKS Katowice with the Czech Banik Ostrava. If they happen to play in those two countries, Legia and GKS can count on Den Haag and Banik hooligans to provide some additional muscle against local Dutch and Czechfirms respectively and vice versa. Polish hooligans often head into the Czech Republic and Slovakia to render "aid" to their allied clubs' firms.

The ustawka, or organised fight, is a staple of the Polish hooligan. Such fights usually take place in forests or other secluded areas and are strictly no-weapons affairs, as opposed to stadium and city-centre brawls, where the worst lunatics can be tooled up with a potentially frightening array of gear, ranging from the ubiquitous baseball bat and sand-filled rubber hose to hatchets and hammers. Ironically, the ustawka can be a much safer environment than the stadium itself. One other feature stands out - quite often, the rival hooligans may afterwards exchange compliments on mutually having the guts to fight...

USTAWKI:

Here's a clip from a TV report about an ustawka between Arka Gdynia and Legia Warszawa fans - at the beginning, a seasoned Arka goon gives advice to younger guys during which he demonstrates a move by casually belting one of them, to laughs all round:

This Motor Lublin scarf pretty much sums things up:

m10.jpg

The slogan "Niech Nas Nienawidza Byle Sie Nas Bali" translates to "Let Them Hate Us, As Long As They Fear Us".

Mindless yobs are the pretty much the same everywhere, bethey chavs from Cardiff or Manchester, shaven-headed dresy from Poland, or drunken Rugby League-and-welfare-addictedbogans from New South Wales. The European football hooligans, however, produce a much greater level of violence than our local Australian housing estate specimens, who are all drink and mouth, yet never seriously kick off and certainly aren't formally organised - this type of sports fan violence is virtually unknown here. In fact, our boozed up League fanatics would positively fill their nappies if they ever encountered Polish or British firms.

One thingI've noticed first hand - Polish hools definitely takedestructive violenceto a much higher levelthan I ever saw in Britain. And that, for a guy who values order, respect and urbanity, is not exactly a source of pride...

Rebajlo good job of explaining the football hooligan. I'm pretty sure I love being white was just being a smartass and trying to rile us up. Well now he just received a lesson on the football hooligan in Europe.

Can't stand hooliganism...except in self-defense (in which case it's not really hooliganism).

I think it emerged from the sense of insignificance and the moral vacuum which arose in the 60's and flowered in the 70's. It started in England--which has been shedding whatever semblance of Christianity it once had. In fact, it's been on a pagan path for over 400 years.

You mentioned it rebajlo--yes, I think the welfare state also contributes to hooliganism--all that free money to travel and go to matches.

Also, the absence of the death penalty contributes to hooliganism.

thepeople who caused the heysel stadium disaster should have been strung up by the belgian government It would have been great to see 50 yobs drop at once.

I also think mass immigrationism leads some white youths to a feeling of insignificance in their own country. so they join a firm to throw their weight around and feel tough.

I hate hooliganism, and its unfortunate that so many whites started it and embraced it.

I've heard of the Polish firms. They are tough --I'll give them that. Some of them probably have a strong sense of white pride. But hooliganism has got to go.Edited by: Solomon Kane

celticdb15 - Yes, I thought that might be the case, but I couldn't help myself mentioningEuropean hooliganism. After all, coverage has to be fair

Solomon - The welfare state has a lot to answer for. If You've ever spent time in the U.K. You shall be familiar with the welfare-addicted chavs of thecouncil housing estates- crass, uneducated dross with no respect for anyone and religiously convinced that the taxpayer (the so-called "rich") owe them and their ever-multiplying brats a generous living.

It's exactly the same here in Australia. We've got a significant population of worthless, lazy,barely-literateyobs who couldn't be bothered to do anything except drink, smoke, cover themselves in tattoos, blast huge stereos (funded by the taxpayer), and lounge about watching Rugby League, AFL and cricket on TVs the size of barn walls (also funded by the taxpayer). Funnily enough, they also reside in public housing - in fact, their entire parasitic "lifestyle" is paid for by the taxpayer. The sickening thing is that the vast majority ofsuchbludgers (whom the media delight in describing as "struggling battlers") are white.

The local estates house people who have never worked a day in their filthy lives, yet have several children, who avoid school like the plague and shall also be unemployed upon attaining "working age". Frighteningly enough, many of these people's parents never worked - transgenerational "professionally" dole-bludging families in the flesh. Naturally, they refer to themselves as "working class"...

British hooligan firms are full of these types of specimens, in addition to genuine "working class" geezers who doactually work for a living, althoughthese elements are farfrom exclusive. A thirst for aggro does not recognise class lines, so one can encounter all sorts.

In Poland, unemployment, especially among the youth, is through the roof and the countryhas beencompletely mismanaged by incompetent and venal officials at all levels of government for the last twenty years (not to mention during the Socialist utopiasymbolised by the bread cue and empty shop). The Polish hooligan "tradition" dates from the early 1980s when fans would take on the police, who were the most obvious symbols of the Communist authorities, in riots which the government concealed from the outside world. Once Communism fell apart in 1989 one thing remained constant - hatred of the police. This hatred is the one thing in which all hooligans are unitedand therefore attractsvariouscategories of naturally antisocial nutcases to the ranks. Mind You, a large portion of the Polish police are corrupt as hell and have no compunction in dishing out heavy-duty beatings at the drop of a hat (that's if they decide to actually attend an incident...).

Many Polish "working class" lads are, just like their British counterparts, not that interested in working and far more interested in boozing up and causing trouble. Unfortunately (and it pains me to say this, given my Polish background), many Poles have a predilection for anarchic behaviour. This has been a common theme in Polish history and the main motif (apart from unbelievable incompetence) of every post-1989 government. But over the last two decades things have really gone to seed and, amidst a less than pleasant environment, much of the early euphoria has given way to a sort of fatalistic resignation and anger among many young men- and the results aren't pretty. Vicious infighting has alwaysbeen a Polish national trait and, combined with the intense local pride and rivalries presented by football, has given rise to the current ultra hard-corefirms.

The corruption of the PZPN (Polish F.A.) has led to the collapse of Polish football - the standard of play is a joke. Matches have been routinely fixed at alllevels since 1989 and, despite endless investigations, arrests, prosecutions, and assurances that all is now above board,Polish football appears to exist solely to enrich dodgy officials, managersand overpaid and underskilled players. (It is interesting to note, however, that during thecommunist era, things were also rather "skewed" - the government"preferred" Gornik Zabrze, a club which won 14 championships between 1957 and 1988. Since the collapse of the Socialist Republic, Gornik have, mysteriously enough, never won a title
smiley3.gif
). Performances on the field are unspeakably embarrassing, so if their teams are crap and getting hammered by all and sundry, the fans' anger and frustration grows proportionately - more fuel for ultra hard-core hooliganism. Iftheir teamscan't win on the field, then they must gain "pride" in other ways - and what better way than by being the hardest hooligans around? They can take out all of their pent-up aggro, both sporting and social, and simultaneously gain "respect". Perverted logic at its best and, when applied to the organic microcosms of alltiers of Polish club football, which now attains even greater importance due to embarrassments on the European and international stage,it produces an all-new "footballing culture", where the game itself isa sideshow to the fighting, providing an identity comprising distinctive colours and crests to rally around and, most importantly, offering up "legitimate" targets and enemiesto ladle out beatings to.

As for white pride, well, I can report that "racism" is alive and well in the Polish firms
smiley36.gif
. You would be surprised, however, at the amount of non-whites in Polish club football - but that, and theceaseless anti-racism campaigns of the PZPN, is material for another post. I'm dead tired and have to work tomorrow morning. In relation to the final point, I'll leave You with this Unia Tarnow vlepka (sticker):
