Wow! Great pic. Look at the size of the legs on the kid. We should call him Quadzilla! He is very fast for a sophmore. Exciting news. Please keep us posted and I will keep a close eye on his development as well.

Those times are phenomenal for a sophomore. Could he become the American LeMaitre? Definitely one to keep an eye on.

wow, all good news! the soph from texas could be our future 100m verion of Wariner. Braddy at 140lbs has alot to improve on. some muscle would help lower his 100 and his 200 & 400 seems to need some endurance work. good finds!

That's great news. He earned it. I just checked and it looks like they plan on keeping him as a sprinter. He might could still prosper at a bit more distance in my opinion, given that he only carries 140lbs. Of course, I know the rest of you guys are pretty focused on sprinting, but I'm generally a bigger fan of mid-distances.

trackster, if you like middle distance running then you should check out Arkansas' track team. they are not only dominant (usually), they are virtually all-White. furthermore, White runners dominate the middle distances in the NCAAs at the moment.

on another note, i just posted this on his thread in the High School section but i thought it worthy of re-posting here. Seth Cunningham is the defending State Champ in the 200 and the second-fastest 100-meter guy in Ohio.below is a story talking about how he's so fast on the track despite constantly bulking up for football.

on the track this spring in his senior year, so far Cunningham has posted a season-best 10.77 in the 100 (10.59 personal record) and a 21.48 in the deuce (21.42 PR) ... this despite his beingbulked up like a football player ratherthan possessing the build ofmost sprinters, as this story and accompanying photo illustrate.

Injury can hardly slow St. Edward's speedy Seth Cunningham: Tim Warsinskey's Take

cunninghamtojpg-cbed85d44559cb70_large.jpg

Thomas Ondrey / The Plain DealerSt. Edward's Seth Cunningham, left, has run the 100-meter dash in 10.77 seconds this season, which is among the fastest times in the state this spring, according to the milesplit.us Web site. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As he barrels across the finish line 15 meters ahead of the nearest runner, Seth Cunningham looks like "USA" should be scrawled across his chest, not the gold St. Edward "E."

Cunningham is built like a Team USA sprinter, not a typical, skinny-armed high school kid. Mellon-sized biceps hang from expansive shoulders. Powerful thighs severely challenge the elastic of his track singlet. When standing near the finish line, the first thought is, "That train needs a whistle."

"I didn't know that many muscles could move that fast," marveled Mentor junior Colton Wallace at the Mentor Relays last weekend.

Cunningham (6-1, 180 pounds) has that rare combination of speed and power, and it didn't just happen by sheer luck. He spends two hours in the weight room after every track practice, doing things like bench pressing 225 pounds 10 times.

But while all that sinew has served him well on the football field, where he'll play cornerback at the University of Akron this fall, it has not been his friend on the track. Running is ruled by the less visible but more surly hamstring. If it isn't stretched, soothed and well- maintained, the hammy bites like a junkyard dog.

Cunningham knows the feeling. He suffered hamstring injuries at the end of his freshman, sophomore and junior years. Last year, he won his 100-meter heat at the state meet, but pulled his hamstring and was done.

"It was disappointing," said Cunningham, who lives in Medina. "This year I'm concentrating on flexibility more and stretching more."

So far, the results have been superb. Cunningham has run the 100 in 10.77 seconds and the 200 in 21.48, which are among the fastest times in Ohio this spring, according to the milesplit.us Web site. He also was hand-timed 10.38 in the 100.

Cunningham will run the 100, 200 and 4x100 and 4x200 relays at the district and beyond. One of the runners he's chasing is former teammate Latwan Anderson, who transferred to Glenville before the 2009 track season.

"It's always a rivalry. Me and Latwan still are very, very close friends," Cunningham said.

Cunningham is serious about winning the 100 and 200, even if some observers have their doubts about either his hamstrings or beating Anderson.

"I think I have something to prove," he said. "My goal from day one was to win states in both the 100 and 200. A lot of people say I can't do it, but I love that because I want to prove them wrong."
isn't it "strange" that such a phenomenal athlete is relegated to playing at such a relatively low-profile program? i thought coaches like those in the SEC coveted speed ... apparently they just covet black speed, as we here at CF (and the facts in the real world) show time and time again.

i know i posted about Neil Braddy signing with the Arkansas Razorbacks the other day, but here's a brief statement by the Hogs track coach and a concise compilation of his accomplishments this year:

"We are pleased to sign another talented home state student-athlete", (head coach Chris) Bucknam said. "What attracted us to Neil, along with his talent, is his versatility and the fact that he's coming from a championship high school program. He's an outstanding competitor. He has great versatility and will continue to add depth to our sprints and relays." Braddy holds personal bests of 10.57 in the 100 meters, 21.57 in the 200 meters, 48.01 in the 400 meters, 23-4.5 in the long jump and 48.07 as a leg of the 4x400-meter relay.

At the 2010 Arkansas 7A State Championships, he won the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x400-meter relay and the long jump. He holds the Southside High School records in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, long jump and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay.

so far six athletes have signed with the Hogs this spring. Braddy joins Auston Chen (Tampa, Florida; multi events), Sam Ewing (Glenwood, Ark.; pole vault), Dwayne Golbek (Claremore, Okla.; high jump), Noah Kittelson (Indianola, Iowa; high jump) and Kevin Lazas (Brentwood, Tenn.; multi events) in Arkansas' 2011 signing class. all of which are White.

Ryan Smith, a senior at Wahpeton High School in North Dakota, ran a 10.73 100-meters on May 10. he's had multiple finishes in the 107.10-8 range this spring, despite not being challenged in any racethus far (the second-place finishers were all well over 11-flat) and often running in poor conditions. Smith is the defending State Champion in the 100 and is a BIG favorite to repeat. he's also the school and conference record-holder in the 100- and 200-meters.

of further note, Smith is a terrific football player and has committed to play for North Dakota State to play tailback. as a junior, Smith rushed for 2,135 yards and 20 touchdownsand had already set SEVEN school records before his senior season had even began. he went on to run for nearly 3,000 yards as a seniorand earning repeat All-Conference andAll-State honors, as well as being the Old Spice National Red Zone Player of the Year.

just foricing on the cake, he's also a pretty good basketball player.

Jacob Lady-Schreiber ran a respectable 10.78 in the Texas 5A 100m State Championship today, which was good enough for 6th place. It was a wet and cool weekend here, so that is not bad for the soph. Two more years to move up.

Here's a little something for those of you who appreciate track beyond just sprinting. The wunderkind, Lukas Verbizcas. We've mentioned him before. He's just a sophomore but he already holds national titles and records at the h.s. level--despite the fact he trains for triathlons rather than track. Anyway, he hasn't even run a race yet this outdoor track season and has only been running one day a week. Just bumped that up to 3/week and is now doing the occasional speed workout. So here's one on video. If you don't have time to watch it, here's the spoiler: he runs repeat 400's in 56.6, 56.6, 56.5, 57.2, 57.3, 57.7. Yeah. Really. This is a high school sophomore triathlete who is geared up only for endurance events and never even runs anything as short as the mile. To put this in perspective, supercoach Clyde Hart had Jeremy Wariner practice his repeat 400s at 60.

This kid has the potential to put all of east Africa in tears someday. Like all runners, I only hope he eventually focuses on running and drops the triathlons.

And while we're talking about amazing high schoolers, I can't resist posting another article about the Girl From Another Universe, Laura Roesler. Coincidentally, it talks about her training. Also, you can click on the pic to get a good look at her perfect legs (if you're so inclined):

Jamison Jordan, aka "blonde blur" just won the California Southern Championship and will be going for the overall state championship with a 10.52 100m. He also placed 3rd in the 200, and his relay team (with 3 white guys) 4x100 came in second to Long Beach Poly. He ran the lead off leg in the relay. He qualified for all three in the state championships. Should be good. He will be the favorite in 100m, but he has a lot of stiff competition. (he's run a 10.45 wind aided, this year, too)

This link has videos of all the races.

He has the fastest HS 100m time in the state of California - 10.52.
Also, Jenna Prandini (a junior) has the fastest girls 100m time in California - 11.46!!!
This is amazing stuff!
Let's hope they can both win the State Championships. That might wake up a few people!Edited by: jacknyc

Nice find! Theoretically, you could drastically change the racial dynamics of high school sprinting by just training a dozen young men like Jamison Jordan. The caste system does not translate to track nearly as much as any other sport, if at all, but propoganda and media attention (not to mention coaches who just have their blinders on to white talent) can really affect the quality of athlete and number of athletes coming into track and field (especially professionally). Currently, track and field is dominated by white nerds who do not care to train, and have no talent at all. We need more guys like Jamison competing. Believe me, they are amongst us.

Yes of course there are!
And look at the small (population) state of North Dakota - since the state has few blacks, white athletes are given a chance to compete.
This year they have 2 top HS girl sprinters (Laura Roesler thread)Edited by: jacknyc

I love the videos. What a name too. Jamison Jordan. He sounds like a future star. Wouldn't that be ironic if another blonde(just like Lemaitre) became a star in the US down the road. He has great form. No doubt about that and he handles pressure well. I hope he can go on and win the state title.

I was impressed with Jamison's race. Great start, good form, stayed relaxed at the end, and knew how to utilize the lean at the tape. Fingers crossed for the state finals.

Does anyone know if Jamison Jordan has any track scholarship offers? I see he plays football too but at his size, he would probably end up being a safety. He would be better off sticking with track at only 5'10 and 165lbs. Thanks in advance for any info.

According to this link, he's going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

http://coachingforpizza.blogspot.com/2010/05/jamison-jordan.html

I'm not sure why he's not going to a Pac 10 school. He may want to play football in college also, and maybe Poly says he can play both. I don't know. I was kind of surprised that the top sprinter in California isn't going to a Pac 10 school. By the way, I see him listed at 6'0 170 on the football sites. In that picture two guys down in the blue uniform is George Farmer who is a big time Top 100 in the nation 2011 football recruit and he's listed at 6'2. He looks to be 2-3 inches taller than Jordan. So 5'11 to 6'0 sounds right.

Jenna Prandini won her heat at the Cal. HS championships in a wind legal time of 11.34!
Guys- for a HS girl, that is flying! and she's only a junior!!!

Jonathan Cabral was the leading qualifier in the 110m hurdles - 13.70.
Still waiting for Jamison Jordan to run his heat....

Jamison Jordan won his heat at the Prelims today with a 10.451 with a 2.0 win. He's the fourth qualifier
for detailed results try this link- http://www.sml1.com/recordtiming/cif2010/

The top qualifier (McClain) ran a 10.35 with a 2.0 win also. Jordan beat the same kid by 100th of a second at the Southern Section finals last week. It's going to be a great race again between Jordan, McClain and Farmer. All three are very competitive sprinters.

One of the problems I see for Jordan is he's running 3 events each day. His 4x100 team is the top qualifier today (3 of the four kids being white) and won their heat. And he's also running the 200. The 200 results haven't been posted but I'm betting he won that too. My question will six races in 3 days prevent him from taking the 100. He's the only one of the 3 favorites to be running six races both days and the temps are almost 90 degrees with a good deal of wind. Seems like a lot to overcome.I guess we'll see. I'll post the 200 results when I find them. This link will have all the videos http://www.dyestatcal.com/?pg=dyestatcal-2010-TrackField-Road-To-State-State-Meet-Prelims&PHPSESSID=86f9e674ecc80484ff3802834ec32fab. The 4x100 is already visible. Still waiting on the 100 and 200.

Yes and Jonathon Cabral (White/hispanic mix I believe) was the top qualifier in 110 hurdles (13.7)andwas the 3rd qualifier inthe 300 hurdles today.Edited by: oxnardlocal
