The Penguins put themselves in a hole by losing the first game to Ottawa, 5-4. Marc-Andre Fleury had a poor game but the team as a whole didn't play with enough passion. Rest on your laurels in this league and you are on the outside looking in real quick.

I couldn't watch the game on Versus because of DirecTV's endless pissing match with Dish, so ended up watching the CBC's broadcast by way of a stream on one site being streamed to another site. (Folks in Canada can watch all the playoff games on CBC's site but not Americans.) Somehow or other all the commercials were those of ESPN. And what did good old ESPN choose to fill the broadcast in the way of house commercials during a hockey game featuring two all-white teams, an all-white crowd and an all-white viewing audience? Innumerable tributesto "black pioneers" in baseball (Curt Flood), football (black AFL QB Marlin Briscoe), basketball (didn't bother to even catch the names), and of course hockey legend Willie O'Ree, he of the 4 career goals. There were others that I didn't catch.

Oh, there was also hockey legend Gordie Howe. Some brief highlights of his career were shown, then present day old Gordie was briefly interviewed by an ESPN reporter -- black of course. I wonder if there's ever been anything comparable in world history to the way blacks -- 1/8 of the population -- are incessantly foisted on the U.S. population.

How about that 2% of the population that runs the gov't. media and financial business?

That 2% of the population that controls the media and government are the ones foisting the other 1/8 of the population down our throats.

Of course, but that 2% isn't "foisted" on the American people; just the opposite. To notice that the2%group is disproportionately involved inwhat is going onis to be accused of "anti-semitism" whatever that is.

I've always been amazed that such a ridiculous term is used as an important brainwashing term. Shouldn't the word "jew" be in there somewhere? Why is no one ever accused of being "anti-Jewish;" why are they always called "anti-semites"? And why is no one everreferred to asa "pro-semite"? If "anti-semites" are the devils, then "pro-semites" should be the proud, out in the open angels.

Perhaps it's because theword "semite"itself is so alien sounding. We are told from our first day out of the womb that being an "anti-semite" is the worst possible thing in the world to be, yet no one has ever called an "pro-semite"? Shouldn't that be the ultimate compliment? Think, sheeple, think. . .

A very interesting post. Of course, the origin of "semite" refers to all of the folks from the middle-east, whether tribesmen or arabs. I like that "Anti-semite" was originally coined by a German journalist who, in his literature, used the term as a positive thing, not as derogatory. Wiki is notoriously erroneous, but this story seems to check out:

"The term "anti-Semitic" (or "anti-Semite") usually refers to Jews only. It was coined in 1879 by German journalist Wilhelm Marr in a pamphlet called, "The Victory of Germandom over Jewry". Using ideas of race and nationalism, Marr argued that Jews had become the first major power in the West. He accused them of being liberals, a people without roots who had Judaized Germans beyond salvation. In 1879 Marr founded the "League for Anti-Semitism". "

Viewed in this light, joining the League for Anti-Semitism sounds like a good and noble thing!

The good news is that Versus is back on DirecTV so I don't have to watch streams any more.

The bad news is that Ottawa scored 18 seconds into the game against the Penguins.

Intense Devils-Flyers game tonight. The Devils tied up the series. What a great sport where Whites play against Whites viewed by White fans. Even the broadcasters are good and not politically correct hacks. What a great sight when the cameras pan the crowd and you see so many White families with little kids enjoying the game.

Penguins come back to beat the Senators 2-1 to tie the series. I'd love to see Pittsburgh and Washington square off for the conference championship, but the thing about the Stanley Cup playoffs is that the most deserving team always advances, and often that is the team most ready to really grind it out for fourgrueling series. The first series in particular seems to have several upsets every year. If teams like the Penguins, Senators and Devils don't go all out right from theget-go they stand a good chance of being upset.

You're absolutely right Don. I could easily see the Devils getting knocked out in the 1st. round. It happened last year. But I don't see anyone upsetting the Penguins in a 7 game series. If the 1st.round was best of 5 game series, watchout.

Don, a Washington/Pittsburgh Conference finals would be awesome. The two best players in the world IMO (Ovechkin and Crosby) facing off. I'd like to either see the Pens repeat (I'm a huge Crosby fan, sorry America) or to see one of the three Canadian teams win. I like watching Vancouver and the Sedin brothers. Also, those green men in the stands are intensely funny!

I don't talk NHL much because I have more fun debating and researching the caste system, which there is none of in the NHL. Hockey is my 3rd favourite sport to watch on t.v after the NFL and NCAA basketball, but I'd say it's my favourite to watch live! I love the adrenaline rush when your team scores the winning goal when your at the arena and all the high fiving with the fans! I wish my Flames made the playoffs, a bit of a Maple Leaf fan too!

The Caps' Nicklas Backstrom is an uber-phenom, and I think he will soon be mentioned in the same breath as Ovechkin and Crosby.

Don, DirecTV and Vs. buried the hatchet in mid-March per http://philadelphia.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/stories/2010/03/15/daily11.html and http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=164506.0 . I watched a couple of late reg. sea. games on Vs. plus, of course, the occasional playoff game, like last night's Pens/Sens. But then again I live east of the Appalachians (and always have) so geography may be why I got to watch late season NHL on Vs. via DirecTV. When did Vs. on DirecTV become available again in NV?

I like the Sedin twins, so it was great to see the Canucks tie their series with the LA Kings.

I also like the fact that Detroit tied their series with Phoenix. Some excellent drama should be on the horizon.

I saw a white player on the Canucks go semi "LeGarrette Blount" and sucker punch black LA King Wayne Simmonds in the back of the head at the end of the game. Simmonds must have said something or "that Canuck be racist". I forget which Canuck it was, but he was smart enough not to try to pull a full LeGarrette Blount and try to go to the stands to fight fans and they both finally cooled off after being restrained by some refs.

Who are not only the world's best athletes but also the toughest?

Belanger loses half-dozen teeth on hit

Capitals center Eric Belanger really is putting his -- well, his employer's -- money where his mouth is after losing a half-dozen or so teeth in a run-in with an opponent's stick.

Belanger says Saturday he "felt my teeth shatter, right away," when Canadiens defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron's stick hit him in the mouth in the first period of Montreal's 2-1 victory at Washington in Game 5 of their playoff series Friday night.

Belanger needed some serious dental work at the arena, getting exposed tooth roots trimmed -- then returned to the ice midway through the third period.

Explains Belanger: "I knew I was in trouble, but what are you going to do? It's the playoffs."

He expects to play in Game 6 at Montreal on Monday.

The Penguins overcome a 3-0 deficit in Ottawa and defeat the Senators 4-3 in overtime and win the series in 6 games.

They can use the rest after an OT game following a triple OT game. The Senators played hard and came very close to stretching it to seven games; hopefully it'll battle harden the Penguins for the tough series to come.

come on Caps. Don't freakin' blow a 3-1 series lead, especially against the Canadiens.

This playoff has been among the best I've ever seen and we're only in round one. Hawks, Pens, Bruins, Flyers, Sharks, et al, hopefully Wings and Caps, got some good teams in the second round. Will be fun to watch.

I saw him yesterday. He's very *******.

Yesterday, Jaroslav Halak was the savior though! I think that the raucous, hockey-savy Montreal crowd will realize that, at least I'm hoping they will...

Montreal comes back from 3-1 down in games to beat Washington in D.C. Helluva a series, but disappointing for those who wanted to see the Caps and Ovechkin advance. Washington outshot Montreal by a huge margin in Games 6 and 7 but Halak was incredible in goal for the Canadians.

The top three seeds all lost in the Eastern Conference. #4 Pittsburgh was the only favored team to win.

subban scored the first goal of the montreal / pitt series. the announcers haven't gushed too much, but you know they want to. montreal also has gomes, so they're definitely the team to root against.
