There are many freak white athletes just like Brandon all over the country.  I have seen local kids from my area that are incredibly athletic yet get offers from small schools.  We can thank the whores at Rivals for this.

You're right wa33, in my looking through high school athletes in Missouri and Kansas, I happen upon all sorts of outstanding skill position white players. One of the things that absolutely drives me crazy is when I find one, and then dig for more information, and can find NOTHING. If the kids do not promote themselves (it's easy nowadays) they WILL NOT be noticed by the afflete-trolling caste-recruiting sites, or schools. And even if they do, they still might not be noticed by Rivals, but it will at least give them a chance at a smaller school offer instead of the -nothing- that many settle for.

Even white skill position players with outstanding speed and statistics end up as 1 star prospects on Rivals.  I looked at their top 100 list for 2010 and had to go all the way down to 40 to find a white player and he as a lineman.  FootballDad have you ever heard of Ray Van Peenan from NJ?

Ray had the misfortune of tearing an ACL, which is bad news for a recruit. But even still, if you go do a YouTube search (it was around in 2006-2007, too) the only highlight you can see is his catch that he made against Demarest. Granted, his two-star rating is par for the caste course, but it's not going to get any better if the only highlights that the DWFs see are those of the "soopa affletes". Heck, my son is in Pop Warner, and I can dig up 5 or 6 videos with him in it right now. As he continues his playing, he will be promoted like crazy, along with the other white skill kids on his teams.

I can't wait to see where this kid ends up at. Byu or Stanford would be two great choices but we will have to wait and see. He does remind me a little of Gerhart. He looks like a monster in college. What a talent. I will be happy regardless as long as he makes a good decision. We have had too many kids like Tre Smith, Kevin Harris and Brian Leonard that rarely got to run the ball in college.

That is terrific. We can only hope and encourage more parents, family members and friends to promote their own talented white athletes. The internet is our greatest tool in this battle, but only if we use it to its full advantage.

It's a dark day here in high-school central. Brandon's Potosi Trojans went down to bitter upset defeat in a second-round Class 3A playoffs here in Missouri. And the worst part is, that the team that they lost to, the New Madrid County Central Eagles, are a caste team. Final score, 34-24.
Bourbon "only" had 121 yards on 21 carries, with no TD's as the Eagles stacked the box with 9 guys, and full-house blitzes every playand dared the Trojan QB to throw. Matt Marler ended up 13-31 with 3 TDs and 3 picks.
Of course, the Eagles "soopa" halfback ended up with 294 yards rushing on 20 carries. Like I said, a dark day.

I agree. Most likely this will turn out to be the worst decision Brandon could have made. Sad.

Don't know if this decision will be bad considering Kansas could not run the ball last year without a healthy Jake Sharp, and Opurem is fat and slow. I was on the Kansas message boards and it seems like Bourban is their biggest grab in recruiting so far, and that people beleive he will play as a freshman. Some beleive he could start. Anyway Gil was fair to whites at Buffalo so for now I will give him the benefit of doubt as far as how he treats young Brandon. I really think that Brandon could be a better runner that Toby if given the chance. I hope like hell that he dosen't get screwed however if he does he could pull a McGuffie and simply transfer to a whiter freindier school.

The Kansas recruiting sites and blogs are really high on Brandon. Here is a quick snippet from one of the sites I perused. The only questionable number I see is his short shuttle, it looks like a mis-print, like somebody typed his 40 time in twice, as a 4.44 shuttle isn't impressive, and doesn't corroborate with the 7.08 3-cone. Nice to see that he runs a 10.4 second 100 meter. That is serious speed.

<TD>Brandon Bourbon finished his junior season with 248 carries for 2,420 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also had nine catches for 134 yards, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors. He says he can bench 310-pounds, squat 465 and claims a 38-inch vertical jump. Bourbon also runs track (10.4 100m; 22.3 200m; 21-11 long jump, 44-7 triple jump), but says he'll only play football in college.

Bourbon plans to major in sports medicine and reports a 3.8 core GPA and a 24 ACT.

Bourbon: "I have good speed and great awareness on the field. I have great vision too. I'm a hybrid-type back and can do a lot of different things on the field.

"I want to get better at blocking. I've been learning a lot at the camps I've been going to already. I feel like I've gotten better, but I'm still working on my technique overall."Â￾

Plus, Mark Mangina is gone. Turner Gill is relatively fair to whites from looking at his career at Buffalo. I think Gill will be fair to Brandon.

Best of luck to Brandon at Kansas!

I don't think this is necessarily a bad move. Turner Gill made a good player out of Brett Hamlin at WR- and started 10 whites out of 22 in a fairly dark conference. Gill knows that he is stealing the possible replacement of Doak award winner Toby Gerhart from Stanford and knows how pumped Harbaugh and Company was to originally nab him.

This will leave the door open for Gaffney to split carries with Stepfan Taylor at Stanford- unless one emerges as the go to guy. Brandon Bourbon should become the starter before long at Kansas with Opurum sliding into his more natural role of a back up power back or FB/ H-back.

I think athletic freak Jake Sharp is making a huge mistake by not attempting to come back for a 5th year after a let down senior season after showing so much promise as a junior. Sharp didn't even eclipse 500 rushing yards- on a very average 4.2 YPC, while playing hurt and I'd be confident that he'd do better if he came back.

We'll see what happens. I wish Brandon the best, and I hope he is treated fairly by Gill. I'm just not holding my breath.

Well I am hoping that they promised him something for him to switch. I hope they keep their part of the bargain. Bourban will be the next star out of Kansas much like the mowhawk wearing John Riggans except he is a little bit smaller and a little bit faster I think.

I stumbled upon this while researching another kid. It's from a write up of the All-American Bowl game which took place January 9th. The info on the college stuff is obviously old now but check the major props Brandon receives.

"The best running back for the West was #25 Brandon Bourbon, who was The Gatorade Player of the Year in Missouri, this year, but he was recovering from a minor injury. Bourbon has already given a verbal to Stanford, but he may visit Notre Dame with the new Irish Coaching Staff. MaxPreps lists Bourbon as the #1 yards per carry running back in the country with a 13.83 yards per carry average."

As talented as Brandon is he only had offers from Kansas, Missouri, Stanford, Kansas State, Iowa State, Harvard, Penn, Vanderbilt, BYU. I wonder why not one big name college program offered a RB that big, fast (4.3) and talented a scholarship...

Typical DWF comment on Brandon's Youtube vid.

I came over to this vid to check this kid out. And the number one
thing i noticed(RIGHT AWAY). Look at his cuts! too slow, sh*tty
competition. Look here Moreno, for the broncos Rb ran a 4.62. At the
combine, yet, got pick in the 1st round. Why? agility! The kid doesn't
have that. You can run a 4.3 and still be a sh*tty running back. His
straight line speed is good., yes. But look when, he goes to make a
cut, how much he slows down. Look at 5.02. doesn't look natural

"Agility" and being "natural" are something only people with black skin possess in these bigots minds...

All Star games are worthless for white runningbacks. Jordan Roberts, who has ideal measurables and performance history, dominated at some all star game (Emfinger Bowl, I think) as a senior. His performance didn't even get him noticed. He had to walk on at West Virginia, where he now carries backpacks and cleans out the toilets for the "chosen ones".

If I had the ear of every white runningback in high school in America, I would tell them to ignore all star games entirely. There is only one thing they should focus on. They have to get a sub-4.4 40 time at a combine. They could rush for 4,000 yards per year and it wouldn't help them get a scholarship (see: Zach Barket). The only thing that will help them get a scholarship as a tailback is a proven 4.3 40 time at a major combine. Although even that isn't good enough to get them consideration for tailback carries (see: Hunter Furr).
Of course, this advice applies only if the most important thing to them is football. In which case, I'd say they have lived a poor life so far.

The only problem with Brandon Bourbon going to Kansas is if the coach is actually fair to Whites, there still might be a White rb getting the shaft. Cale Sharp, Jake Sharp's little brother has an offer from Kansas. He has interest from a few other schools, so I hope he picks someone like Colorado State but he might want to follow in his brother's footsteps and not leave Kansas. If he does that then Kansas will have two White runningbacks. Cale is probably going to be just as good as Jake, maybe better if he gets more playing time, hes timed at 4.5 but that is what Jake had coming in and he got it down to 4.3. I just hope Cale winds up somewhere other than Kansas. I haven't been able to find if hes been offered anywhere yet on any of the recruiting sites.

The best situation is for Stanford to go with Gaffney and use Taylor as a change of pace runner, much like they did last season with Gerhart. Taylor is only good for 5 or 6 carries a game, against Notre Dame when he got the most carries of the season (12) he only averaged 2.9 ypc. Too bad we didn't get too see more of Gaffney, every game he broke off a decent run they didn't give him more carries, the two games Taylor broke off a nice run they gave him more carries. I think Gaffney will be the best option if they let him get into a rhythm. Stanford also has Jeremy Stewart at runningback who will be a senior. It was probably wise for Bourbon to leave because I doubt we would see two White rbs getting all of the carries with Taylor being there. At least with Kansas there doesn't seem to be much talent at RB, there is the slow Opurum, he wasn't injured and his production wasn't much higher than Jake Sharp, in fact he averaged the same ypc (4.2) but he had 9 tds so I think you are right about him being more of an h-back/fb or back up power back in short yardage or goal line situations.Edited by: dwid

Dwid I'm pretty sure Cale Sharp is only a junior and will graduate in 2011. As for Brandon, Stanford is far away from his home.If he went there, hewould probably get homesick, much like McGuffie. Not to mention a somewhat cluttered runningback depth chart.Only time will tell how it works out at Kansas.

Cale Sharp also has interest from Nebraska, so he'd be a good fit there, too, since Nebraska has been giving Burkhead time. Burkhead shouldn't affect Sharp's time much, should he go there. Rex would be a junior when/if Sharp goes to Nebraska. Nebraska hasn't offered him yet, but I hope they do.Edited by: Jack Lambert
