Shann Schillinger ~ Montana - A great pro day showing (blazing 4.40 speed) and a breakout junior <A style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 2px; MARGIN-BOTTOM: -2px; COLOR: #006600; CURSOR: pointer; TEXT-DECORATION: none" id=AdBriteInlineAd_season name=AdBriteInlineAd_season target=_top display="inline" keyword="season">season</A> have scouts really fascinated.

Taylor Lanigan ~ Murray State - Productive player, with next level speed, size and strength, who deserves a lot more attention than he's getting.

Shann has 40 tackles1 FF and 4 picks thus far into the Montana Grizzlies season! NFL Draft Scout has him as the 20th bestFS for the 2010 class!

Taylor has 21 tackles and only 1 pick which is kind of dissapointing because this kid is a blazer!!

Dave Casale out of Albany has nice size at 6'2 210 is also genereating some interest. He had 7 picks last year, i cant find any stats for him this year tho.

Tyler Sash just made a huge momentum changing pick 6 for Iowa. This guy just might be the best safety in college football. It's his 6th INT of the year and it is arguably the biggest play of the college season so far. This guy has very similar measurables to Taylor Mays, but makes far more "big plays", so why is one of these guys a top 16 pick and the other a mid round guy?

Speaking of Sash...the 13 Thorpe Finalist were just flashed on TV (ESPN) and Sash is the only white candidate I saw on the list...can't find an article to post yet...

What a game by Matt O'Hanlon against the Sooners on Saturday. 3 INTs, 11 tackles, and a pass broken up!

Yeah, I wish we could get a research project to find out what percentage of white "speed" position players that start in the FBS are walk-ons. I know Blair White and Zeke Markshausen both are (both currently in the top 50 in receiving yards). I think Eric Decker might be too? Mike Furrey, Kevin Curtis, Jordy Nelson and Mike Hass are all in the NFL and walked-on. Wes Welker had zero scholarship offers until the last minute, when Texas Tech called up- b/c an Afrolete de-committed. Mike Leach said Welker was the best H.S player he ever saw, but barely found him worthy of a scholarship. We might never know of Wes Welker, if Texas Tech hadn't offered and Nick Saban had gotten his way and cut him. Even this "Pro Bowler" was almost a victim of the caste system!

Jordan Peterson sighting. Peterson is finally healthy enough to play and got considerable minutes for the Aggies at CB against Colorado. He also made two big stops in the game.

6'-1" 215 Safety Jordan Lake(Sr.)-Baylor was projected as a 4th-5th round pick in the pre-season....known as a ferocious player; caught the attention of Gil Brant with his hard-hitting! The Dallas Cowboys could use a white DB to go along with Brooking, Olshansky and Carpenter

Good to see Jordan Peterson back!!Edited by: TwentyTwo

I feel a couple may, Kyle McCarthy, Sash, and Lake. Whether or not they are high draft picks is another story. Also it depends on who the NFL decides to reward combine invites to. WIll they pick a black player from a tiny school over white guys who have produced at the bigger level but have less "potential"?

BTW O'Hanlon had a beautiful open field tackle in the BIG 12 Championship game on the Texas RB1 Even Captain Kirk had to give him credit, but of course brought up his once walk-on status.

Free Safety John Boyett-Oregon made the All-Freshman team for CFN

http://cfn.scout.com/2/927274.html

When injuries struck the Duck secondary early in the season, Boyett was one of the players to step up and solidify it. A former quarterback in high school and terrific athlete, he plays with excellent range and will lower the boom like a linebacker. Even as a part-time starter, he has a team-high 78 tackles and has broken up six passes

It's good to see Boyett get the recognition that he deserves. The sad part is that he should have been recruited as a dual-threat QB, as he can really run, and has a great arm. Heck, he was MaxPreps CALIFORNIA PLAYER OF THE YEAR! He is such a tremendous athlete that he went "both ways" on his team, and if I'm not mistaken, played CB most of the time on defense. So, of course, he gets converted to safety, since he's WHITE, and can't possibly make it as a good dual-threat QB, like Dixon or Masoli, and would suck as a CB, since he must lack the ubiquitous "swivel hips" and "burst".

Rice sophomore safety Travis Bradshaw led the nation in unassisted tackles while matching the eighth-best tackle total in Rice history (tying Larry Izzo). Bradshaw led Rice with 121 total tackles, including 90 unassisted.

just for good measure,Bradshaw is lights out in the classroom, as well. he sports a 3.37 GPA in Chemical Engineering.

i'm just sitting down to watch BYU-Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl, and as was mentioned in another thread, OSU has a starting White cornerback, Brandon Hardin. i'll re-post the info again here.

here isBrandon Hardin's bio. it gives him credit for being one of the fastest, and one of the best, overall athletes on the Beavers team. and apparently, he was some kind of track phenom in high school.

it seems Hardin has really emerged toward the end of the season, as he's played in all 12 games (13 counting tonight) and started 2 (3 counting tonight). here is a snippet on him in an article talking about tonight's matchup:
Hardin has been the corner-in-waiting since he arrived from Honolulu's Kamehameha High in 2007. A 6-foot-2, 210-pounder, Hardin is one of the fastest players on the team.

He resembles former OSU safety Sabby Piscitelli, now in the NFL, in build and ability. However, his speed and agility allow him to play corner.

The Beavers want to see how Hardin plays as a corner first, and if he sticks, great. If not, there's always safety.

"I feel most comfortable at corner," Hardin said. "I can get in a receiver's face. I'm more physical. I've knocked receivers down, pushed them out of bounds. I have something a smaller-sized corner doesn't have. So far it has worked out with my coverage, speed and technique."
also, i found a bit of info from his high school days ... it turns out that he was a track phenom.
smiley20.gif

"A lot of times I'll see football players have this fortunate thing happen to them," said Kamehameha eighth-year track coach Harvey McInerny Jr. "When they come out for track, it's the last sport of the year, (and) sometimes guys aren't real motivated to go out there and get better.

"In Brandon's case, he's a guy who's already set up, he's got his four years paid for, to come out and do what he's done right off the bat ... it was amazing."

McInerny was referring, in part, to Hardin's 22-foot, 8 1/4-inch long jump that he planted two weeks ago in the second Interscholastic League of Honolulu meet of the year.

Hardin also participates in the 4x100 relay, triple jump and 100-meter dash. But the long jump is his forte. It's where he combines his natural speed and leaping ability. He's been hand-timed at 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and boasts a vertical leap of 35 inches.

To Hardin -- admittedly a perfectionist -- it's about leaving a mark that will last.

as you can see, Brandon Hardin can fly.

best of luck to him in his future!

Good (and telling) article about O'Hanlon's NFL aspirations:

http://www.omaha.com/article/20100111/BIGRED/701119857

O'Hanlon faces a familiar fight for shot in NFL</span>

<div>

By Rich Kaipust
WORLD-HERALD BUREAU</span></div>

LINCOLN â€" Matt O'Hanlon has been here before, as the underrated and
underpublicized football player trying desperately to extend his
career.

So this should be nothing new for the former Nebraska safety.

O'Hanlon five years ago had to make the Huskers through a winter walk-on tryout. About 60 wannabes fighting for maybe one spot.

<div><div id="AAMB21">
<a href="http://omaha.adbureau.net/accipiter/adclick/CID=0000680b12521ab900000000/SITE=omaha/AREA=sports.news.bigredpage.front/AAMSZ=300X250/position=21/acc_random=824915/pageid=358432" target="_blank">
</a>This time around, O'Hanlon is looking for
a chance to play professional football, and likely without the benefit
of invitations to a postseason all-star game or the NFL Combine. His
best chance to impress scouts might be at the NU pro day in March.
</div>

</div>

"I think it's really similar in the fact that I'll pretty much
be doing the same things as when I did the walk-on trial,"Â￾ O'Hanlon
said. "If I didn't test out well then, I wouldn't make the team. It's
going to be the same here."Â￾

The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder out of Bellevue East started a new
workout program this week with NU strength and conditioning coach James
Dobson. The NFL dream that was always there just might be a little more
in focus after a senior season that included O'Hanlon leading the team
with six interceptions and adding 69 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

"I definitely want to give it a shot,"Â￾ O'Hanlon said.

According to NU coach Bo Pelini, somebody should give him one.
Pelini said after the Holiday Bowl that he believes O'Hanlon is going
to be "playing on Sundays."Â￾

"It's going to be the same thing: People are going to come in,
and they're going to write him off,"Â￾ said Pelini, who spent nine
seasons as an NFL assistant. "And he's going to end up in a camp. And
he's going to make a football team."Â￾

O'Hanlon will be at the Outland Trophy banquet on Thursday
night as winner of the Cletus Fischer Native Son Award. The honor
annually goes to a Nebraska senior who best exemplifies work ethic,
competitiveness, leadership, forthrightness, sense of humor, pride,
loyalty and love of Nebraska.

"It's a great honor and there have been so many good players
who have won it in the last few years,"Â￾ said O'Hanlon, who follows
former teammates Todd Peterson, Ben Eisenhart and Dane Todd. "So much
goes into it."Â￾

Some of those traits will serve O'Hanlon well as he plugs through the winter with no guarantees ahead.

O'Hanlon said he previously ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash
(electronic) and believes he can get back in that range. He should be
able to lower the 3.87 pro agility time he posted during the walk-on
trial. His vertical jump mostly likely will be in the 37- or 38-inch
range.

"If you go undrafted, a lot of it just has to do with
impressing someone, a certain scout or a certain coach,"Â￾ O'Hanlon said.
"Throughout the pro day, I have to show I have speed or quickness, or
something like that I can add to my game film. My game film will
definitely help."Â￾

Along with his parents, O'Hanlon has been speaking to or
meeting with some prospective agents, realizing that might be another
element necessary to help "a guy like me to get a foot in the door."Â￾

O'Hanlon said he wanted to get started with workouts right
after the Holiday Bowl but Dobson recommended he take a week off. If he
makes a team, there won't be any breaks coming.

And believe O'Hanlon, it's something he wants to do.

"It's cool that I might get a chance,"Â￾ he said. "I'm pretty
sure I'll get into a camp, then it's up to me that I make the team."Â￾

<b style="font-size: 14px;">Amukamara to return for 2010 season[/b]

LINCOLN (AP) â€" Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini said
All-Big 12 cornerback Prince Amukamara will remain with the Huskers for
another year.

Amukamara has been listed in some NFL draft projections after
making 54 tackles and intercepting five passes in his first season as a
starter.***************************************************
I included the above bit about junior Amukamara because the NFL IS courting him, even though he is only a junior and has fewer INTs and Tackles than O'Hanlon. O'Hanlon? Not a bite from the NFL.

Nice example of the caste system! I'm going to go a 'posting on some castedraftnik sites to inquire about why this safety isn't on anybody's radar, just using stats and measurables. A 4.46 40 and an insane 3.87 short shuttle, with a super-explosive 37" vertical, proven productivity in a major D1 program, and he's projected to be an undrafted walk-on? If he were black, the pro scouts would be drooling over his athleticism and slotting him as a day 1 pick.
