What is the state of Hillis' health? A torn hamstring can take a long time to heal, unfortunately. Given how well Hillis played last year, it makes no sense that he is not playing this season if he is healthy. A true power back is hard to find, a big, fast, strong back who can pound it between the tackles. Defensive players get really tired of tackling someone like that. It a very valuable weapon for any team to have, and to bury one of the bench is questionable, to say the least.

As far as we know, there are no health issues that would prevent Hillis from getting the playing time that he deserves. That vermin McDaniels has basically thrown Hillis in the doghouse for reasons unclear for anyone. It's a complete travesty, and while a lot of folks at CF were rooting for Denver before the season, we are now heavily rooting against them.

This injustice is very difficult to deal with, honestly. I really thought with Hillis, we were finally going to that white RB to get meaningful carries and perhaps open some eyes. It was not meant to be.

yeah all he did that i can think of was one false start on the goalline and one fumbled kickoff (which i am pretty sure they recovered anyway).

I see. It could be a case of Hillis being drafted by Shanahan, and not being a McDaniels/Belichik style of back, and with the Broncos good start no one is going to question the strategy. But Hillis really showed something last year: a legitimate 250 lb back with a burst, who punished tacklers, and always fell forward for the extra yard. And when he caught balls out of the backfield and turned upfield you could imagine dbs breaking into a sweat. Damn shame if he doesn't get a chance to show his stuff.

Oddly enough Hillis' hands out of the backfield actually do suit him perfectly for the Kevin Faulk role in the New England style offense, but Hillis has the body of a power back so apparentlytheblind coach can't see it (and his injury last year clearly suits him for the Lawrence Maroney role).I think McDaniels really does want to purge theShanahan players from the roster. Looking back the only skill position playerMcDaniels hasn't had a problem with is former Patriots'TE Daniel Graham. Culter is gone, Hillis is benched, the collection of RBs from last year is gone,Grahamwas favored over Sheffler, and Brandon Marshall and McDaniels fueded a bit (Marshall's issues are largely self-inflicted though). So it appears that Hillis is fighting both a racial stereotype and vindictive coach politics. He could demand a trade, but would anyone trade for him or sign him if his demand got him cut? Though I don't like the Caste Steelers, I'll be rooting for them to win over Denver on Monday. And also that Moreno continues to look very mediocre and without explosion and big play ability. Eminem McDaniels needs to come down to earth after the team's unexpectedly good start. That being said, when every single white RB for over 30 years has been screwed over, with the only exceptions being a very tiny few at best being underutilized (Alstott and Vardell for a season), the only logical conclusion to draw is that Hillis would have been screwed regardless of the coach and will continue to be for the rest of his NFL career.

Former Conway High standout Peyton Hillis will not be in action tonight for Denver, as the Broncos take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.


The 6-foot-1, 240-pound second-year player from Arkansas has been listed on the injury list for a non-injury-related issue. Hillis is in Conway to attend a family funeral.


Hillis has had more of a limited role under new coach Josh McDaniels. He has four carries for five yards on the season, including a 2-yard touchdown run against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 20. Hillis also has three catches for 16 yards.


Originally thought to be a significant factor in short-yardage situation, Hillis has played more of a role on special teams.
The Broncos (6-1) enter tonight's game coming off their first loss of the season â€" a 30-7 defeat to Baltimore. The Steelers bring a 5-2 record into the contest.

I guess that there's little to no reason to watch the game tonight, then, except to hope that the Steelers roll it up on Denver's coal-black defense, and that the Denver backs are stuffed for negative yardage on every play. Not that I'm a Steeler fan by any stretch.

this is pitiful Hillis was amazing when he played last season and with moreno and buckhalter not playing verywell why is he not receiving carries.I guess no matter how talented u r if your white you cant play runningback in the nfl

I didnt watch the Steelers/Broncos game but this is what Moreno's stat line looks like (not sure if its fully updated yet)

Not playing very well is an understatement.

This is the "stud" drafted in the first round that McDaniels seems to think is better than Hillis.

Buckhalter was doing well the first few games but has averaged around 2ypc the last few games. It is obvious they could use Hillis right now. This anti-white coach would probably bring in Larry Johnson before thinking about giving Hillis a shot.

I am glad the Broncos lost. It is fun watching McDaniels squirm after the game, he looked like he was holding tears back and his eyes were watery while he was talking.

Good analysis dwid. This is outrageous. Buckhalter started out good, but now defenses playing the Broncos have "figured things out". Hillis ran for 5.9 YPC and 7.3 YPC his last two games after "he figured things out". He had a 100 yard rushing and a 100 yard receiving game against two good defensive teams. If that's not "upside" I don't know what is.

Buckhalter was over 6 YPC early in the season, but now his total is 5.5 YPC. Hillis is not only "the best RB on the team", I think he's top 5 in the league- and I dare say the best in the league outside of AP in the Broncos system. Buckhalter is 31 years old, where's his "upside"? If Knowshon Moreno continues to crash down lower to low 3s' YPC, where is his "upside"? It's amazing how a journeyman like Buckhalter is basically sharing the starting job with Noshowup Moreno. Wow Buckhalter is the equivalent of a used AMC Pacer. Amazing a guy that played like a bull when he got the rock can't even sniff the field.... Edited by: white is right

Tough J, "upside" only applies to afroletes in the NFL. I wonder who ever came up with this word. It sounds like a hybrid word, with english and ebonic influences.

With white players "obvious ability" should be used.

At least Gruden called it right. He said No-Shon had no business being back there if he was just going to dodge the blitzer every time. Tore into him pretty good.
So, if that's a problem for Denver, then why don't they put somebody in the backfield who has a history and talent for pass protection? Hmmm... I guess they don't have anybody like that on the roster.

I didn't tune in to this game until the end, but I watched as the Steelers effortlessly made their way down the field against the absolutely COAL BLACK Denver defense. Not a white guy on the field.

Peyton Hillis missed Monday night's game due to personal reasons.

The fullback who has been impressive as a running back at times is still fourth on the Broncos' depth chart at tailback. His status for Week 10 is unknown.

Well, the Steeler's defense completely destroyed Buckhalter and Slowshon last night. Ben had his way with the Bronco's all-black defense. Where was "that vaunted secondary" last night.

While he still uses some caste speak as an annoucner, I prefer Gruden in the booth rather than destroying white players as a coach.

Yes the Gruden /Jaws combo is more palatable than most NFL announcers.

Hillis missing Monday's game after not practicing during the week because of "personal reasons" is something to follow closely. Usually in such circumstances it's because of a close death in the family, yet nothing of that nature was reported that I'm aware of.

I read yesterday from rotoworld that Peyton's Grandmother died back in Arkansas and he's there for the funeral.

Hillis wonders at times too, although he takes a large share of the blame. He was Denver's leading rusher last season and played well in the preseason. Hillis' role has been mostly insignificant since then, and reached a low point Sunday when he was a healthy scratch.


"I'm disappointed right now the coaches don't think I'm up to my standard,"Â￾ Hillis said. "I have to rethink my motives and prepare myself harder."Â￾


Hillis made sure to repeat that he didn't blame the coaches â€" he also thanked coach Josh McDaniels for understanding when he missed a few days of practice and the Pittsburgh game because he was in Arkansas after his grandmother died. He said he can only work hard, keep a positive attitude, wait patiently and understand there are situations he can't control.


"If I get playing time, great, and if I don't, then it's just not my time,"Â￾ Hillis said. "But I have to pick it up a bit.


"I just need to go out there and produce, because that's all I know how to do."Â￾


McDaniels didn't point to Hillis' effort being a problem, but said his deactivation Sunday was a result of special-teams considerations. He left the door open for Hillis to work himself back into an active role this week.
