White RBs 2009

If anyone is up and perusing the Caste forums and is not already watching the Stanford route of Arizona State I strongly recommend you do (24-0, Stanford). I haven't enjoyed a football game this much in quite some time. For this one game we can watch our goal come to fruition in it's entirety. Everything taking place on the field is exactly how we argue it should. It's a great reminder of why we argue the point we do, and just how enjoyable the game of American Football can be when not being played by Jr. Snoop Doggs. For the next hour and a half Stanford will show us that whites are more than capable to excell and amaze on the football field. In the first half Toby Gerhart and Ryan Whalen have thoroughly dominated ASU, as well as a whole host of strong, athletic, white defenders and skill players. I don't think I've witnessed a white running back-wide reciever tandem this good since Kyle Bell and David Anderson at CSU. On a side note few people remember just how good Kyle Bell was before he tore up his knee. But anyways, if you get the chance, look for this game on the Fox Sports Network if you read this post before 2 a.m. tonight. Oh and I almost forgot to give a little cred to Chris McGaha; a white receiver who is currently the only productive player for ASU this game and the current career leading receiver in the PAC-10.Edited by: kre08

I'm listening to the Stanford game and Toby is at 100 yards with 11 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter! Arizona State hasn't allowed a 100 yard rusher this season, but Toby is having a great game on just 18 carries.

Toby already has about 110 yards (3rd qtr)!

Kre08, has Toby & Whalen scored any TDs? He almost punched it in on the goal line but unfortunately fumbled.

indeed, it's a very good game. damn, Toby fumbled trying to get his second TD of the night. shame! still, he's over 100 yards already.

Staford looks very white, outside of one receiver and the backup black RB they really are THE team. McGaha also looks good, he almost made an incredible one handed catch earlier on.

Tobys at 125 yards right now with another 7 minutes to play. Hes so close to 1000 for the season!

Also while Arizona State may be a fairly middle of the back to high average Pac-10 team, their run defense is ranked 2nd overall in the entire country. I think this should be noted when this game is added to Gerhart's quickly growing resume of scalps.

Nick Schwieger - SO RB - Dartmouth
29 carries for 242 yards and 1TD in Dartmouth's victory over Columbia today.

Matt Kaiserman the freshman runing back from Boise State had a nice debut.He had 23 carries for 122 yards, a 5.3 yard average and 1 td against.

Wow I was totally clueless about Kaiserman. How did I not know about him? Lol. So who on the board was the first to identify him?

Anyway, glad to see him perform very well for the number 4 ranked team in the nation!

David Sinisi has a slight chance of being drafted.  Hopefully he at least gets picked up as a free agent.

Scott Cocconnan looks like he will get the bulk of the carries for the reast of the season for Northwestern he runs hard and dosen't fumble 16 carries for 73 yards nice job Scott keep up the good work. I really like Fitzgerald he's not afraid to play white guys and for that reason he is ok in my book.

In 2005 and 2006, the big-time recruiters weren't shy about pursuing players at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo.

They practically kicked in the door of coach A.J. Ofodile's office to check out film of the team's four-star studs, quarterback Logan Gray and tight end Aron White.

Auburn showed up. So did Nebraska. South Carolina. Iowa. Clemson. Cal. Georgia came and conquered, signing both Gray and White.

Rock Bridge also had Scott Concannon. He ran a 4.49-second 40 during his junior season and, as a senior, broke the state record by rushing for 10.3 yards per carry.

"We had a group of kids everyone loved," Ofodile (pronounced Oh-FAH-dilay) said. "But Scott was pretty much considered the best player on the team."

You wouldn't have known that by the ratings -- or by talking to most of the college recruiters. Rivals.com gave him two stars. ESPN/Scouts Inc. ranked him as the nation's 129th-best running back.

"I'm always the villain for saying this, but one thing I respected about the Northwestern coaching staff was that when they looked at Scott, they said he had aspects that reminded them of Tyrell Sutton," Ofodile said. "Prior to that, every coach tried to think of a white running back to compare him to. I heard Tom Rathman. How is he like Tom Rathman? He was a fullback."

Ofodile calls Concannon as "under-recruited as they get."

He remembers asking one Division I coach whether he viewed the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder as a Big Ten/Big 12 player or more of a Mid-American Conference/Western Athletic Conference guy.

"He said 'NAIA,' " Ofodile recalled. "Another coach told me that if he tried to sign a white, red-headed kid from central Missouri as a tailback, he would get laughed out of the meeting room. That's offensive to me because if he's not athletic because he's white, then I'm not intelligent because I'm black."

Concannon doesn't care much for the debate.

"Maybe I look like a fullback or a wrestler," he said. "I try to do what I can out there."

And regardless of the snubbings, Concannon believes his recruitment went great. Missouri didn't offer him a scholarship, and he didn't seek one.

"I was born and raised in Columbia, so I wasn't too interested in staying another four years," he said. "I found a place where I was wanted and I'm happy here."

The feeling is mutual. The redshirt sophomore will make his first collegiate start Saturday against Penn State, the result of consecutive rushes of 15, 11 and 6 yards during NU's game-winning drive against Indiana.

"He looked like he was fresh-legged and ready to go," Penn State coach Joe Paterno said after seeing No. 20 on film. "He had second effort. He ran over a couple of people. It looks like he had enough speed."

And then Paterno, unsolicited, compared Concannon to a previous opponent. Get this: Jacquizz Rodgers, the tiny, fast, accomplished and assuredly non-white running back for Oregon State.

"He doesn't have quite that kind of burst," Paterno said of Concannon, "but he's a tough kid and you have to tackle him."

Concannon entered the Indiana game with just 16 carries, the result of competition (Arby Fields, Stephen Simmons, Jacob Schmidt) and a concussion he suffered returning a kick Sept. 26 against Minnesota. His teammates call him "Cut-cannon" for his jukes and shiftiness, but he's too humble to declare that his new name.

"My birth certificate says Concannon, so I would say Concannon at this point," he said.

No matter his name, no matter his skin color, Randy Walker believed in Concannon, so much that he was the only running back in Walker's final recruiting class.

"Coach Walker trusted what he saw on film," said NU receivers coach Kevin Johns, who recruits Missouri. "Scott had the ability to see the open hole and hit it fast."

Concannon spent time with Walker, a star running back at Miami (Ohio), in Evanston two weeks before he died.

"He had confidence in me, and I'm still trying not to let him down," Concannon said. "He's the reason I'm here."

A great article on the RB WP mentioned. The bottom line is Arby Fields never should have been made the starter from day one as a true freshman over a more talented veteran RB like Scott Concannon. Young redshirt freshman Alex Daniel and true freshman Mike Trumpy looked noticeably more talented than Fields on their H.S tapes anyway.
