it seems despite the recent dominance of white athletes worldwide in the beautiful game, MLS is intent on creating a darker version of football...

8 of the 15 First Round picks in the '09 Draft were blacks, including the #1 overall pick. 6 white athletes were chosen (#2 overall Sam Cronin was the first white chosen), and 1 hispanic heard his name called.

the surprise of the First Round was at pick #13. Stefan Frei, rated the top goalkeeper in collegiate soccer the past two seasons AND the top performer at the MLS Player Combine, fell much lower than the experts expected. prior to the draft, Frei was considered good enough to be an immediate starter in the MLS.

for those who are interested, here is the link to the entire draft. it includes some video links, as well.

Zakuani is another African that moves to England and then gets a scholarship in the US. I have had it with this. What about native born Americans? How come the US and England want to stab their own people in the back.

Why don't the Africans fix their own countries.

Did you see Zigy Schmidt of Seattle saying he is scouting in Africa because there is a "wealth of talent". He can move to Africa and coach then.

White people just sit back and watch as their countries are being given away. White people in the US and Europe accept their own kids being left out as they give the places to blacks and foreigners. I guess the powers that be want whites to only pay high ticket prices and watch the games as they are not allowed to play any more.We will just make blacks and foreigners rich as we are laid off.

I have had it with this nonsense. I am just about done with sports.

The US and Europe are dead.

I was rather dissapointed in how the first round turned out as well. Some of the main goals of the MLS is to produce American talent for the national team, grow the sport in our country using mostly domestic players, and create a high level league for the best in our colleges to compete in. Were the black players selected American? mmmmmmm..... ehhhh... I mean, I guess, technically, in the same way that Mexican Americans that go to the US home games dressed in green, waiving tri-colored flags, and scoff at anyone white are Americans. Playing collegiate soccer myself, I know many foreign 'imports' that gain citizenship here, and honestly, none of them have a sense of school pride, national pride, and they certainly don't give a damn about raising interest and play level here in the USA. The ones that come here are the ones that weren't good enough to get a trial with a pro team in their country by the time they finished high school, or they take the opportunity of a free education. Either way, it is absolutely not condusive at all to the growth of the game in America. I'll just make a comparison here to the J-league of Japan. Each team is allowed 3 foreign player slots, thats it. No loopholes, no getting around it. If you look at the team shots, you clearly see 22 Asians, and a combination of 3 white/black players. Since the enactment of this rule, they have gone from a nation that would never qualify for the WC, to a nation that is dominant in the Asian region, not only is expected to go the WC, but to advance past group play, and has a league with extraordinary talent.

If I could sum up what the MLS should be in one moment, I'll point to Richard Jata, a local white kid, in this draft. He was selected in the last round, but was in attendance to see his dream come true and hear his name called. When he was selected, he made his way up to the stage, ignoring stares of confusion on why a fourth rounder would go up to the podium, and gave a speech. He basically talked about how much it meant to him, and how he will give it his all. Some spectators were moved to tears. People like Richard Jata, are the young men we need to fill the league with, those that can see past themselves to the big picture, those that actually WANT to play in MLS, instead of it being a 'well I can't play were I want to so I guess I'll just go to the USA' league.

I agree with Blue Mentos. Bringing in foreign players is not going to get the casual non soccer fan to go because these players are meaningless to them. They don't know who Blanco is or Angel.

They need to build the sport from the bottom, People will follow games when they have friends and relatives playing or their school is playing. Then there will be a history to talk about.

The Mexican fans in Chicago don't really support the Fire too much. There are not too many at the games. They care more about the Mexican teams that they have a history with.

The foreign players like kaka, messi are in Europe for the money. If they could make more money in Brazil or Argentina they would still be there. People praise Kaka because he didn't go for money at Man city, but he already has more money than he knows what to do with, so he is not sacrificing. He went for the money when he left Brazil and turned his back on his country. I am not saying I wouldn't go for the money , but don't make it out like Kaka is working with lepers while at AC MIlan..

I am tired of Brazilians taking over the sport in other countries. I read that Geovanni,a Brazilian, who plays at Hull in Engalnd, said he wanted Kaka to come to man city because it's a good league now. It's like he is saying because the Brazilians are there it's good.

You don't have to have all the best players in the world to havea good , enjoyable league. I would rather watch white Americans in the USand Europeansin Europe thanbetter Africans or Brazilians. The Mexicans like their league even though it's not the "best".
