Sam just returned a kick and got smashed by a couple of Buckeyes. Thats the only time I've seen him so far.

It took Minor 4 tries to get into the end zone from the 1. I don't know why they won't use Sam at RB. Maybe we'll see him in the second half.

two big runs broken off by osu for tds, you think michigan would get it by now, mcguffie has the ability to take it all the way, the oline stepped up and had big holes and minor got caught from behind and then took 4 tries to get it in the endzone, i thought he wasnt going to make it, if mcguffie wouldve had that blocking it wouldve been a td right off the batEdited by: dwid

wtf is going on there??? 4 different runningbacks carried a ball today and yet they did not give a single attempt to Sam? i guess transfer is the only option, how do they get off treating their most talented player like that?

Ok, I kept my promise.
I didn't say a word all season long.
And now I've got a big fat "I Told You So" sitting in my back pocket, and I'm tossing it on the field.
I was right. Completely.
RichRod is RichRod. I knew it early in the season and I knew he wouldn't change.

Riddlewire,I guessyou are somewhat correct but not completely. Sam got screwed in a few games, no doubt, especially in today's game. You must admitthat Sam still leads the team in carries and yards as a true freshman. Thats not bad at all, and I think that is probably more than most (if not all) people on this site would have thought he would have under RichRod.

Get out of there Sam. They are playing games with you. I don't trust the Michigan Coaching Staff anymore. I don't think he is there long term plans. Go back home to Texas or even better, come to the University of Arizona Wildcats! We will gladly welcome him here. I feel so bad for the kid. Whatever he decides, I wish him the best because he deserves better treatment than he has received lately.

Getting back to the issue at hand. I wonder if the hoard of black RBs were harassing Sam because he was taking away their playing time and chance at the big leagues. Maybe Sam was too easy going and requested a position switch for this reason. He had originally stated out of h.s that he was most comfortable at RB. If Sam wants to transfer he should act as soon as possible so he doesn't lose time!

You are on to something Tough J. When I attended in HS, blacks would stop at nothing to discourage whites from competing for positions (like running back) they considered "black property". Being genetically disposed to impulsive, violence, they thought nothing of punching white teammates during practice. I guarantee McGuffie has received grief from Michigan's black running backs and black defensive teammates. About 8 years ago, the NY Jets had a white backup running back . He was given a carry to run out the first half. A black defensive lineman, rapped him up. picked him up and deliberately threw him down to cause a severe injury which ended his career. The same thing can happen to Sam ,even during practice, given the incredible impulsiveness of black criminality.. The most unlikely source :The NY Times had an article in their Sunday magazine about 15 years ago on why the NBA has so few white Americans. They had (unattributed) quotes from whites who were playing in the NBA, saying many white basketball players who have the ability don't feel comfortable enough to play in the NBA despite the very high salaries. I'm sure being either the only white or one of 2 or 3 whites on a team with 9 or 10 blacks , most of whom don't have the slightest team spirit when it comes to whites teammates, makes playing in NBA exceptionally unpleasant. For example, the creature from hell Kevin Garnett, who was shown around Minneapolis by white teammate Rick Richart(sp) as a rookie, repaid him by sucker punching him in practice causing significant injury to Richart. Who could forget when the number one overall NBA Draft pick Kent Benson ,who is white, was assaulted by the ugly freak Kareem Jabar in the first 5 minutes of his first NBA game. Since Benson already had a significant signing bonus tucked away ,why risk very severe injury like that suffered by Rudy Tomjanovich.

When a player loses his place so totally, there is something very wrong. All of Shaw's carries should have been Sam's. I know we have found bits and pieces of what may have happened. I decided to look through the press clippings to see what truth we can base this on. Lo and behold, I think we may have a smoking gun. This is from the rivals site TheWolverine.com...

"You can't really blame Rich Rod because everybody on the team did not buy in like they're supposed to. We have a couple of guys not going hard," he said. "We'll correct that most definitely. That ain't going to happen on my watch as a senior." Brandon Minor

If I can find the newspaper it is attached to I will give it credit. But for now and taking it as it is, it looks like there is some dissention in the backfield. No names were named but it's pretty safe to assume that he was talking about Sam as he is a RB also. One can only guess what happens behind closed doors but if Brandon Minor and Coach Rich Rod feel this way, Sam will need to go to another school immediately. The RB coach Jackson seems like he is trying to defend Sam with risking the ire of Coach Rod. Putting this all together, I think Sam may have been called out fairly or (most likely) unfairly by Coach Rod and was "made an example of". All of the other RB's think that he is not playing hard. Sam thinks about changing positions and leaving while attending funeral. RB coach Jackson talks him into staying but will be playing 3rd (maybe 4th) fiddle in the backfield. And I didn't even put in the injury to Sam cause I am not sure if it happened before or after the demotion. Sam should leave Michigan. Minor will be back next year, Shaw will be a So., incoming recruit Fitzgerld Touissant is coming in. All of these guys are not better than Sam but Rich Rod is stacking the deck against him and Minor won't let him get playing time if it was up to him. What a horrible situation...

Edited because I found where the quote from Minor came from and another thread link with more info.

I don't think that quote was directed at Sam. Heck he hardly played in the last several games, there were plenty others who did not go hard and I don't think Sam is one of them. As far as Sam not wanting to be a backup I think all players feel that way so it's not unusual. It would be very cheesy for Minor to criticize the guy that he's competing with and who put up better numbers then him.

If I were Sam I'd still feel out the rest of the year before I decided to transfer. McGuffie and Shaw could very well become part of a duel threat backfield next year; as Fred Jackson loves them both. Neither is a huge guy and might have amazing YPC if they shared the carries. Sam could still rush for 1,000 yards if he got about half the carries, just as Felix Jones did at Arkansas. Sam may have been completely in-active this game b/c another JR. Carlos Brown played solid last game and his grandmother just died.

If Michigan starts white Tate Forcier at QB next year they will be better; the dude is mad accurate: 70%+ completion percentage in H.S with good yards. Forcier also ran a 4.5 40 recently. I have no clue why Threet didn't play last game now that he's healthy, he is clearly better than Sheridan. The o-line has started to perform better in the second half of the season which is why Minor is averaging 5.2 YPC compared to Sam's 4.1. I think Sam could still thrive in this offense, but he needs to play!

Threet didn't play because he was injured, he didn't even make the trip to Columbus. Sam is said to be banged up too so they might have held him back to save injury in a lost season, at least that's the positive spin on the story. He did play returning one kick and getting hit pretty hard on that one too. The team is a mess and there is a lot of turmoil. I don't know if transfering is the answer he'll just find the same sh*t whereever he goes unless it's BYU or something.

MCGuffie's future still unclear. This report makes it sound like concussions are the issue, I think that's a smokescreen. This reminds me of the Justin Fargas situation, Fargas was at Michigan for a couple of seasons and didn't really get a fair shot at the tailback position, he also was described as "homesick" so he eventually went home and starred as a back in the Pac-10 and now he's a featured back in the NFL. Maybe Sam can do something like that.

Rodriguez: Still no word on McGuffie's future at U-M

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News
ANN ARBOR -- The Michigan football future of freshman tailback Sam McGuffie remains unclear.

McGuffie, who was a noticeable no-show at Thursday night's annual football bust, is on campus and taking classes, but there are a number of concerns that needed to be sorted through, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Saturday during halftime of the Michigan-Duke basketball game.

Rodriguez, who was in attendance with most of his staff for a major football recruiting weekend, said McGuffie went home to Texas for Thanksgiving and did return, but the two have not had an opportunity to have serious discussions about the future.

So why didn't McGuffie attend the bust?

"Because I think he's still looking at what he needs to do," Rodriguez said. "I've talked to Sam before the break and after the break. We have several concerns. Sam has concerns at home, and we have concerns because he's had multiple concussions, three of them, so there's a lot of concerns there."

Rodriguez did not want to speculate about whether football will be out of the question for McGuffie because of the concussions.

"I don't want to talk anything medically, because I'm not qualified, but it is something that the trainers and I have talked about and are concerned about," Rodriguez said. "That's for his future, wherever he may be."

I never understood why he came to Michigan anyway. I know his dad wanted him in Ann Arbor, but I always thought his game was better suited for a speed conference like the SEC or Pac-10.. where smaller, shiftier Jeffery Demps/Jahvid Best/Jacquizz Rogers-type backs kick ass and flourish.

The Big Ten is for stronger, bulkier, rock-pounding backs who can bang, break tackles, and take hits without concussing. DeLeon Eskridge is the only other light back among the leaders, and he also has a below average YPC.

3 concussions? That's weird, b/c I only saw one that happened in a game that took him out. I wonder if his own teammates delivered two other concussion barring hits in practice. This is very upsetting news. I thought Sam was our man to have a shot to be a featured white RB in the NFL because of his measurables and the hype behind him.

What does being bulkier have to do with "concussing"? Every running back has to take hits no matter what their weight. The Big Ten has had plenty of good smaller backs. The idea that the Big Ten is more of a power running conference is an outdated stereotype. As far as weight is concerned most backs go up in weight as they go through their college careers, McGuffie will be in most of the others weight range in 4 years anyway.

You don't only get concussions when you're hit.. you also get them when you land. Crushing someone who weighs 185 does a lot more potential damage than crushing someone who weighs 235. The velocity in which they come to an immediate, abrupt stop by hitting the ground causes your brain to hit your skull as well.

I've seen all of Michigan's games. He gets hit a lot harder, and more squarely than those other young, speedy backs do. I think the reason the rumor was out there that he wanted to move to slot receiver was because of losing confidence as result of the trememdous hits he received.

As far as the Big Ten being a powerback conference, I think the proof is in the stats. Fred Jackson inferred that that was the reason Minor took over as the feature back. Bigger, stronger backs like Brian were needed to break the tackles, make longer runs, and stretch the field. Despite Sam's superior speed, his longest run was only 29 yards, and his only good game was against a mediocre Notre Dame defense.

Sam may bulk up a considerable amount, then again, he may not. I live in metro-Detroit too, and I'm sure you've heard talk radio discussing how Minor's gonna rush for 1,000 yards next year. I was excited about him coming up here too, but now I think it was a big mistake.Edited by: Osgood Fan

It's possible Rodriguez is saying that in an attempt to scare other coaches out of offering Sam a scholarship. Publicly discussing he had 3 concussions instead of the one known maybe dirty tricks on his part. I doubt it'll work, but those scholarships are limited and precious.

He knows Sam is painfully shy and introverted, and won't seek out the media to defend himself.

I also thought that he was to be the great white running back in the NFL. The once ever 25 year freak running back
