White running backs have to adjust to reality and change their game. Quickness is the name of the game today..adjust or die out. Fullbacks?, maybe 40 yrs ago, not today.
Sports, like people, always change..it is called evolution. Today's game called for Quickness, change of direction in a split of a moment. Whites can do that, but they are not train that way. Being 6 2 weighting 220, your trained to run over people. So you amass 5000 yds. Truthfully, that does not work at a D-1 college. Thats why they become LB and the dreaded FB.

I have followd white running back for alot of yrs, because I root for the underdog, regardlees of race.

The last great white running back was Staley of BYU. He had it all, but he was injury prone even in college. Think of a black conterpart in Cranell Williams of Auburn..where is he at? hint injuried. Career over.
Before Staley it was Craig James of SMU. Forget about Vardell and Muster, they were Fullbacks during the time the the FB was being phased out.

Go back to the old posts of CF and see where the tops white running backs are today. look at the high school white running backs cicra 2005.

I will still alway root for the underdog. The only white running back worth mentioning is Jake Sharp He plays the "Black Game". McGuffie, to young to tell. Gebhart, given the chance will play Baseball.

BTW, my 2 sons played running backs in a black HS I taught them to "juke" at a young age. Both were average and move beyond that enivorment, and I did too.

What's your point? Carnell isn't even a power back, he's one of your shifty backs, obviously it didn't serve him too well. Of course quickness is needed at the RB position, but there is still a place in D-1 and the NFL for big fast RBs as Toby. They only need to protect themself better, thats what they should be teached.

While I think that you have a point, quickness is more important in the college game with spread offenses and backs that operate in space. Pass catching is another important skill for college RBs.

In the NFL, the power running game is alive and well. Most of the starting RBs are 220 lbs+. Coaches put more value on a big back that can get 4 yds and move the pile. Very few small, quick backs are leading their teams in rushing and backs like Reggie Bush are having a tough time in the league.

Remember I am rooting for the white running. However I must see reality. Look at Kevin Harris of WF. I thought he was the complete package. However a RB named Adams came a year later and was the talk of the year. Took carries from Harris. He got alot of carries at the expense of Harris. Today, neither sees many carries, although give the " rock" to Harris and I still think he shine.
Look at the NFL. The best imho for a pro was Hillis. Leonard 2nd and Hester had no shot. Hillis had a good game last week, BUT NO CARRIES. YES, I want to see white running backs. I recall rooting for the Rick Kane, Deirking, Polatak{sp}, Van Ehgan, Shuey, and a lot of other that where buried in the depth charts.

I don't question who you are rooting for, I just disagree with what you say. There is still Power backs in the NFL and this is what most of our guys are good at. The 2010 draft will be most interesting as both Gerhart(prototype big back with speed) and Sharp(prototype speedback with enough height not to be viewed as only a 3rd down option) will be available with possibly both having 2 1,000-yards seasons in a BSC conference under their belt.

Hillis had no carries because of the Caste System. Denver will literally have to be desperate before they utilize the potential stud talent they have at tailback (hopefully beginning tomorrow night). Maybe Hillis isn't good enough to run in the NFL. But there's only one way to find out. That's how it's done with black running backs, in college and in the NFL.

You write as if the players you mentionedwere the only potentially good white college backs. What has to be kept in mind is that the major programs very rarely recruit white running backs out of high school, and when they do they are switched to another position or languish on the bench. And then it gets even more discriminatory at the NFL level. That's the problem, not that there aren't elusive white runners.

There are white backs that can do anything any back can do. All they need is the chance.

Amen to that. That line right there should be on our front page and be one of our favorite quotes!

P-NutLane and Don are both exactly right.

tippycat,

what i think you are missing is that under the caste system, no matter what a white back has it's not enough.

if he is fast, regardless of his size he's not big enough to be a fullback. if he's big, regardless of how fast he is, he's too slow. if he's 5-10 or less, he's too short. if he's 5-11 to 6-1, he runs too upright, or is too stiff, or has some other non-quantifiable nebulous lack. if he's 6-2 or above, he's too tall and needs to play H-back, tight-end, or fullback.

these exact arguments have been levied against talented white backs too many times to point them all out.

black tailbacks, on the other hand, never suffer these same shortcomings. no matter how short they are, no matter how slow, no matter how tall, no matter how straight-up they run, no matter what; according to the powers that be and the drunken masses who worship them, blacks have that mysterious but vital something that makes them worthy to carry the football.

furthermore, it is truly ridiculous that the drunk white fans and coaches/scouts/general managers don't seem to ever see the obvious problem with such nonsense.
