Between 2005 and 2012 UCLA started 7, 7, 9, 10, 8, 4, 8, and 9 white players each season. No write-ups were done between 2013 and 2015. In 2016 UCLA started 6 white players and in 2017 they rose to 8. In 2018 UCLA project to fall to only 3 white starters, the lowest on record. Definitely not a team to root for in the PAC-12 by any means unless they get time into their white freshmen. Josh Rosen and Kolton Miller were taken in the top half of the first round of the NFL Draft, while Scott Quessenberry was taken in the fifth round.

Four white WRs on the roster in FR Kyle Philips, RS SR Christian Pabico (18 caycjes for 280 yards and a TD in 2017), FR Chase Cota (Rivals.com’s #21 WR, father Chad Cota played in the NFL from 1995-2002 as a DB), and JR Ethan Fernea. Plenty to be excited about in Pabico and Cota when they get game time. One white RB on the roster in RS FR Cole Kinder (6-0 196lbs) – rushed for 1900 yards in 10 games as a high school SR.

On defense, Rick Wade is the only white player on the two-deep. Wade made 33 tackles in 2017, 5 for loss. FR Bo Calvert was Rivals.com’s #17 OLB prospect (386 career tackles in high school, 11.5 sacks as a high school JR). Two white DBs on the roster in RS FR Ryan Parks and FR Zach Huffstutter.

Chip Kelly takes over the head-coaching role, taking over from the fired Jim Mora. Kelly was always reasonably white-friendly when with Oregon, Philadelphia and San Francisco (especially with the Eagles) compared to other coaches so it wouldn’t surprise me if they trend upwards in the future as Kelly gets his say in recruitment – it’s already started, with two FR WRs, two FR DBs and the highly-rated Bo Calvert at OLB. Might not look like much of an impact so far but I have faith that Kelly will at least bring this UCLA team back to the pre-2013 era at least.

Offense
LT: Andre James (JR)
RT: Michael Alves (JR)

Defense
DE: Rick Wade (JR)

Back-ups listed on the two-deep include QB Matt Lynch/Wilton Speight, LG Sean Seawards, C Zach Sweeney, and RG Bryan Weitzman.

I would have expected nothing else from Jim "Moron" Jr. other than a full-on rejection of White players. Hopefully Chip Kelly's recruiting and coaching makes the Bruins a fun team to root for again in a year or two.

Excellent write-ups, RTTAS.

I second that motion above RTTAS is truly a valuable asset here at caste and I am enjoying his in depth team analysis of the Pac 12. And it is nice to see the college football team reports up and running again. Thanks to all. I picked up the expensive Phil Steele magazine recently but I prefer the cliff notes version here which gets to the meat of the matter without any interference. LOL.

After saying all of those nice things I am going to seem like Mr. Picky on a few players. Now I recognize everyone here as different levels of tolerance when it comes to " mainly white mixed" players being categorized as white. I however take the all or nothing route.

WR Wharton of Cal has been discussed here at length and for me I don't care if he appears white I just can't root for him as if he is white. He is "legally" mixed. No pleasing some people like me. Same deal with ex Oregon WR and great track hurdler Devon Allen. Funny thing about Allen. I remember when I first saw his picture but I kept thinking I have never heard of a white guy with a first name of Devon. Well as it turns out he has some black to him. Not a lot mind you.

Now fellow Cal player S Ashtyn Davis could very well be all white but I have my suspicions. He is obviously at a minimum mainly white but I detect something? Am I crazy? Well yes, perhaps I should word the question another way. LOL.

And above WR Pabico looks Island mixed to me. But UCLA had a nice recruiting class. Anytime you pick up two highly rated white WRs (Cota and Phillips) you are moving things in the right direction in a hurry.

Keep up the good work people.

Very kind of you to say, thanks!

I usually just take players at face value - if they look white I'm happy to include them, as I'm sure just that alone, half-black mother or latino grandfather or whatever, is enough to get them discriminated against in the football industry. The "eye test", so to speak.

Thanks RTTAS.

I have not liked UCLA for ages now. And a scan of this season's edition looks like the same old grim set up.

However the best way to soften me up is to recruit not one but two highly rated white WRs. Tough enough to find two highly rated white WRs to begin with but UCLA managed to grab both top 50 WRs Cota and Philips. Both of these players have star potential.

And RTTAS brings up some freshman white DB's they hauled in too along with a highly rated edge player so while at the moment we are talking about unrealized potential on the squad at least there is a glimmer of hope. A far cry from the many teams and sometimes whole conferences like the SEC where hope is mainly just a fairy tale.

Chase Cota
Bo Calvert

I was shocked when seeing there's only 3 in the starting roles, Thanks RTTAS.
Hoping Chip Kelly can turn things around faster.

An article on Fansided have UCLA starting a snow-plow OL, WR Christian Pabico, and the aforementioned DE Rick Wade. Its supposedly the official depth chart, you never know about OurLads.

Regarding Christian Pabico I don't see any Islander in him, he looks like a white hispanic or a Spainiard.

Hopefully Kelly ditches the black quarterback fetish - throws Speight back out there when healthy and recruits White QBs. I still remember Nick Foles brilliant 2013 season executing the Chip kelly offense in Philly.

so it looks like on the o-line we now have James, Alves, Murphy and Burton as starters, the center is black, and Pabico is listed as starter on ourlads as well, as they have updated.

The father of Chip Kelly's freshman black quarterback doing his best Lavar Ball impression. Criticizing Chip to the media.

UCLA is now 0-4. Kelly has alot of work to do to repair the damage done but Jim Moron. So far Kelly's recruiting has been less than impressive - he has a 5'11 190lb black quarterback. Amazing how these coaches never learn anything.
