Hey, guys, I love Jenna Prandini as much as the rest of you (are there even words to describe her?), but someone's got to mention the other news:

Nick Symmonds!!--after taking a year off due to injury, he came back, ran a fast time (sub-1:45) and won the US Championship yet again. Incredible . No one saw it coming. This was the thrill of the championship. Sowinski and Loxsom round out the 800 team.

Clayton Murphy??--Gotta mention this name. A soph at Akron he finished fourth in the 800 USAs. People started researching to find out how such a thing was possible and discovered that he has a blazing fast 400 split (45) and some pretty decent times in the 5000 and cross country--Steve Ovett-style natural range. Makes you wonder: why was he not interesting to bigger schools than Akron? I can't imagine. Anyway, he looks like the future, although Symmonds states unequivocally that Loxsom is the future (he says out of 100 training partners over the years, Loxsom is the fastest and could run a 33 second 300 right now).

The 5000--Ryan Hill wins with a great sprint, followed by Ben True and Galen Rupp. NO Lagat or any other Kenyan import.

Womens 1500--Simpson, Rowbury, Gallagher. Again no imports.

Steeplechase--Jager, Cabral, Huling. Same comment as above. And has anyone noted that the versatile Jager has the fastest 1500 in the world this year? (There might be one listed faster, but photo evidence show it was started from the wrong start line and was too short). Jager might finally be a threat to break Kenyan dominance and win a gold medal.

All in all, Sunday was a great day of track.

Thanks for the recap for the non track folks here. You are by far the mvp here when it comes to reporting on the mid distance to distance races. I cannot thank you enough for keeping us up to date on those races as the racial stereotyping can be very bad at the longer distance races too. Most people think the Kenyans and Ethiopians can't be beat. First off many lie about their ages, they have doping progams and train at altitude year round. They can be beat. It is just another lie that whites can't compete. We know they can. Try to tell someone like Mary Cain that she can't compete. What a joke. There is a resurgence in the distant running in America. Good to see.

Stefanos Tsakonas of Greece who beat Lemaitre in the 200m race in Rome in early June, running a personal best of 20.09, followed up today with a time of 20.20 in France.
Right now he is a better 200m runner than Lemaitre.

Just a reminder guys the the British Outdoor Champs start tommorow and go for two days. What a shame that Richard Kilty is hurt. He might have got his first sub 10. I hope this doesn't keep him off the UK Team for the World Champs.

Julien Reus coming off a season long injury raced his first 100 meters today. He won in a time of 10.21 -0.7 wind. Not a bad start considering all the setbacks he has had this year. Hope he can improve on that time very quickly as the German Champs are right around the corner and the World Champs in a little over a month.

Good luck to this kid. He has the talent in good conditions to go sub 10. He has went sub 10.10 in the last two summers with his german national record of 10.05 coming last year. Come on Reus. Dip under that magical mark!

He's run faster than Lemaitre this season, and he beat Lemaitre fairly easily when they raced against each other.
He's a better 200m runner than Lemaitre right now.
It's no joke.

Jimmy Vicaut just equaled the European record, running 9.86 in Paris.
Vicaut keeps getting better, and Lemaitre keeps getting worse.
Why wouldn't Lemaitre say to himself, 'I should go train with Vicaut!'?
I mean what sprinter wouldn't want to train with best or better sprinters?!
Who would turn down the chance to train with Usain Bolt, for example?
Christophe Lemaitre might be the only one.

so Lemaitre will never hold the French record gain .....Lemaitre has great speed but that's only part of the equation - Vicaud has become the complete sprinter

Dafne Schippers got her exquisite bottom smacked today when she raced against the very best.
ShellyAnn Fraser-Pryce 10.74 v Schippers 11.02 (for 4th). Still a very encouraging run in only 0.2 wind.

Vicaut jumped into another league today with 9.86. Only 1/2 metre behind Powell and well away from Rodgers(9.99)and Carter. He is now French record holder and can be relied on to run well for France consistently. Works hard and gets better by the year - can't deny him his dues.
Now joint Euro record holder with Obikwelo after surpassing Linford Christie

Shubenkov new PB of 13.06 for 3rd place in mens 110H

Relative newcomer Wayde Van Niekerk (RSA) ran a PB in the 400. He took his 3 week old record of 44.24 from New York and smashed it to bits with 43.96. Apart from Kirani James (44.17) no-one else was close

Lemaitre makes much progress in training, he has run 9.4 and 19 flat! according to Master Carraz's watch, you just refuse to see it because you are a ignorant xenophobe!

PS: By the way those times are in the 70 meter and 150 meter race :)

Congrats to Vicaut, an Athlete that was trained, developed and progressed the right way from the start due only to better coaching methods!

Lemaitre would of ran 10.19 in that race and blamed it on the pimple on his ass.

I'm really excited about Shubenkov of Russia. He is so close to a sub 13 in the 110 hurdles. In my lifetime I've never seen a white guy go under 13 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and only 1 asian guy. This kid has the potential to smash the barrier and compete for medals at the world champs and olympics. He is that good. By far the hilite of the day for me. I wonder what kind of times he would run in the sprints if he tried it out. I would rather have him stay in the hurdles but I'm just curious as he has pretty good speed.

I watched Evan Jager's race on YOUTUBE. Fantastic - he had all the Africans beaten till that fall and still finished near on 8.00. I figure he would have won in <7.58 and put himself at number 8 or so all time. As it is he's now 13 alltime.
I must admit the other guys gave him big consolation. They know the work it takes to do that and lose unluckily

Jager is the best in the world right now. He has the number one time in the 1500, which isn't even his event, and, had he not fallen on the last hurdle, would have beaten the world's best in the steeple. Even after falling, he crushed the US record. He is now one of the favorites for World Championships gold in an event that has always been thoroughly dominated by Kenyans.

Sure, you only defend Caraz because he is French, yet I am the Xenophobe, lol

his nationality is not important for me, it's important for you.

I respect this coach because Carraz is a good coach, you don't know Pierre Carraz, but you insult him

When did I question Carraz's nationality? I question his experience with Elite Sprinters. He is a good coach, not a great coach. Lemaitre is a great talent in need of a great coach, not a good coach. I would rather him train with Guy Vinton and Vicaut. Carraz does not know how to handle someone with Lemaitre elite sprinting genetics.
