2014-2015 College Basketball Season

It appears I've missed a game... Gonzaga and their white star power are playing UCLA and feature star Bryce Alford right now on ESPN2. Kyle Wiltjer has started off on a tear, with 7 of the Zags' first 9.

I've been pretty busy the last few days, so I haven't had time for many updates. However, there are a couple of things that I would like to point out.

First off, in a game that I managed to get to watch part of Saturday, was that the Army Black Knights knocked off USC in LA in Overtime 85-77.

Unlike a lot of smaller teams, Army likes to play a more uptempo game, with their lowest point total for the season coming in at 73 points. They also play 5 guys for at least 9 minutes off the bench. Oh, and did I mention that the starting 5 and 3 of their 5 bench players were white? This team is very fun to watch; their main scorer is Kyle Wilson, who had 30 points in Army's win over USC. He's the go-to guy. I haven't watched them enough yet to know the rest of their guys, but Kyle Wilson is the real deal. The good news is that their entire starting 5 are juniors, which means they should have a great year next season as well.

Another guy whom I wanted to mention is Luke Fischer of Marquette. The Indiana transfer played in his first game for the Golden Eagles Tuesday against Arizona State, and boy did he ever respond. Fischer finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, and an assist in Marquette's 78-71 win. The 6'11 sophomore was a dominating presence in the paint, altering several more shots as well. The announcers sang Fischer's praises the entire night. I can't wait to see Fischer paired with Henry Ellenson in the Golden Eagle frontcourt next year.

Alabama A&M @ Marquette, Fox Sports 1, 9 Eastern - Just last year, this game would've been been of 0 interest, now it could be highly entertaining. What a difference a year makes. Two of Marquette's best players are white men in the well-traveled dynamic guard Matt Carlino, and emerging big man Luke Fischer. Marquette is a lot of fun to watch with these guys (who are always involved).


Saturday


SMU vs. Michigan, 12 Eastern ESPN2 - The all-black Mustangs take on a Wolverines squad that is taking on water. Nevertheless, the Wolverines still play 3-4 white guys. The starter is Mark Donnal, although you could count Spike Albrecht as a starter as well (the guy easily plays starters' minutes).


Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Tech, 2 PM Eastern - ESPN3 - If you can find this game online, watch it. Vandy has an exciting freshman guard in Riley LaChance, along with forward Luke Kornet in the starting lineup. Georgia Tech has guard Travis Jorgenson.

Indiana vs. Butler - 2:30 Eastern - FoxSports1 - A big a caste matchup as any Saturday. Butler starts 3 white guys with 2 more off the bench, while the Hoosiers "allow" two white guys to play off the bench for them.

Western Michigan vs. Northwestern - 3 Eastern, Big Ten Network - 4 White starters for the Broncos, with two for Northwestern, including exciting young guard Bryant McIntosh.

UCLA vs. Kentucky - 3:30 Eastern - CBS - A huge game. The Bruins have just one white starter, but he's a good one. That would be do-everything guard Bryce Alford, who's the Bruin's best player, despite what the media would have you believe. Former McDonald's All-American freshman center Thomas Welsh comes off the bench for UCLA. Kentucky will play 0 white guys throughout this game. I really hope Alford and co. can pull the upset here!

Purdue vs. Notre Dame - 5:15 Eastern - Big Ten Network - Should be a fun game. Notre Dame starts two white guys in Pat Connaughton (who needs to pick it up as of late) and Steve Vasturia (a terrific defender for the Irish) Martinas Geben and Austin Burgett come off the bench. Purdue has started their two freshman the last couple of games, the terrific 7-0 footer Isaac Haas, and sharpshooter Dakota Mathias.

Iowa vs. Northern Iowa - 7:30 Eastern - Big Ten Network - This will be CF's best game of the night, 4 white starters for the Hawkeyes, and 2 for Northern Iowa (although they'll have at least 3 on the court nearly the whole game, with 4 for stretches as well.

Stanford vs. BYU - 11 Eastern - ESPNU - Stanford (with 2 white starters and 2 more off the bench) has really struggled of late; I'd love to see BYU take this game. An ankle injury to Tyler Haws means the Cougars have 4 white starters, and will take a bit of the luster off the game for CF fans.



Sunday

Maryland vs. Oklahoma State - 2 Eastern - ESPNU - Although this game will be drowned out by the NFL, there's still some athletes to cheer for here. Maryland has 1 white starter in the athletic Jake Layman, with two more whites off the bench is shooting forward Evan Smotrcyz, and 7-0 freshman Michel Chekovsky. Oklahoma State (whom I haven't watched very close this year yet) starts the terrific Phil Forte III, who's the Cowboy's leading scorer, and plays two more whites off the bench.

LSU's Keith Hornsby had 24 points tonight; he's got some serious hang-time at 6'-4" too!

22, I went to a St John's game 2 years ago (don't ask, lol). It was early in the season when teams schedule non-conference "cupcakes". Well the cupcake for that night was UNC Ashville. I was rooting for them as the had Keith Hornsby and a few other Whites who got major minutes. As it would turn out, Hornsby and a black player who was pretty good too, lead Ashville to the road upset. Hornsby could shoot, had good ball-handling and had a nice 2 hand dunk to ice the game. I remember thinking that Hornsby was too good to be playing at an obscure program. I'm glad he's getting to show his talents in a major conference now.

Also, thanks for the heads-up on Hornsby. I had no idea LSU had any white players. I'll have to keep an eye on him from now as well!!

I've been watching a little bit of Louisville and Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers have been using three white guys a lot of the times I've been watching them, and have been hanging with Louisville, but the Cardinals will probably end up winning in a blowout. Louisville was in the bonus with over 15 minutes left in the 2nd half!! Yet, the Cardinals get away with slapping, hacking, pushing, you know the "physical" ghetto streetball that they always get away with. I just saw a ridiculous sequence where a Louisville player full on ran into a Hilltopper player after he passed the ball, sending both to the ground, and no foul called. Of course, that's just "really good defense." If a white team ever tried to play the defense Louisville plays, they'd have nobody left to play with after a couple of minutes. I can't stand the Cardinals, especially after Thrashen's post earlier in the thread. One of Louisville's thug players Montrezl (you read that right...) Harrell got ejected in the first half for throwing punches.

Also, Wisconsin is playing Cal tonight on ESPN2... I think at 9 Eastern... a lot of white talent in this game. We know about Wisconsin, but Cal also has a very talented player in forward David Kravish.

It was a pretty good game! It took Wisconsin a little while, but they're talent started pulling away late in the 1st half. I though Kaminsky and Dekker looked really good. They have a couple great pieces off the bench in Duje Dukan and Bronson Koenig. This team is VERY talented and I believe has a chance to win it all.

And they do!!! Great win for the Hawkeyes!!! Aaron White and Jarrod Uthoff both with great games for Iowa, with both at 18 points, game highs. Uthoff also had 7 boards 5 assists, and a block, with White at 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block. Iowa played really well today (besides a couple minute stretch in the 2nd half). I'm glad they grinded out the win; something they've had a LOT of trouble doing this year.

Good win for the Hawkeyes but the Buckeyes seem like a bunch of pretenders to me. Especially for a #20 ranked team.

Looking at this now 11-3 team, the thing that immediately stands out is their lack of road games. I know this is typical early in the year but they only played one true road game against Louisville and lost. Of the 14 games, 11 have been at home so that leaves 2 neutral site games. The only 2 ranked team they played, they lost to. The only "quality win" in my book was against Marquette but it was so early in the year before Fischer was playing for them. So overall, what have they done to deserve a top 25 ranking? Start a bunch of hyped black guys?

Iowa have some disappointing loses but at least they were all to good teams and they do have quality wins. The road win at North Carolina and now at Ohio St will be good come tourney time.

I stumbled upon a pretty cool story today. I was looking at some box scores, and noticed a couple names from LIU Brooklyn, Martin Hermannsson and Elvar Fridiriksson. Curious, I checked out the Blackbirds roster, and these two were the only white guys on the team. Interestingly enough, both are from Iceland, and both are freshman guards who've started every game this year!! They also make up 2 out of the top 3 scorers on the team as well, both averaging over 10 points and 30 minutes per game. They're also first and second on the team in assists by a WIDE margin. What's better, they're best friends as well, having known each other basically since they were born. Bear with me here... we had a TON of great performances from white players yesterday, with several more likely today.


Perhaps the best performance from our guys yesterday was Kellen Dunham. He scored 28 points (including 6-7 from 3!!) as the Bulldogs beat No. 15 St. John's on the road. Teammate Alex Barlow also had a great performance: 15 points (6-9 shooting), 6 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals, with only 1 TO in 38 minutes of action!


Kyle Collinsworth is simply amazing. He recorded his 2nd triple double in the last three games(!) in the Cougars' rout of San Francisco. He finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and a steal! Tyler Haws led the team with 22 and Chase Fischer chipped in 20 of his own.


Tyler Kalinoski had 21 points as Davidson won their first A-10 game.


Luke Fischer and Matt Carlino had 11 and 10 points respectively as the Golden Eagles beat Providence.

Trevor Cooney led the Orange with 18 points as they held on against Virginia Tech.

Phil Forte III again led Oklahoma State with 20 points as they defeated Kansas State... this guy is GOOD!!

Steve Vasturia had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal, while Pat Connaughton chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds as Notre Dame beat Georgia Tech in double OT.

And finally, as usual, Gonzaga provided an abundance of amazing white talent on display as they held off a rally from a feisty Portland team, winning 87-75. Kevin Pangos and Przemek Karnowski led the Zags with 21 points each. Meanwhile, Portland big man Thomas van der Mars (who's criminally underrated) had 17 points and 8 boards for the Pilots.

Good find on LIU. They often times win their division and make the NCAA tourney.

A good top 25 Caste Matchup tonight. Would be nice if Notre Dame can handle the aptly named Tar Heels on the road.

Notre Dame holds on for the huge road win!! Pat Connaughton had another great performance: 16 points and 9 boards in the victory. Connaughton is one of the best rebounding guards in the nation.


Another huge caste win for us last night was nearly all-white Iowa knocking off all-black Nebraska. Aaron White led the Hawkeyes with 23 points 9 rebounds and Jarrod Uthoff added 15 points and 7 rebounds. One wonders why a state as white as Nebraska only played one white guy for a few minutes off the bench last night...

Watching Gonzaga-BYU right now. What a great white college basketball game. Kyle Collinsworth of BYU is a stud. He has set the NCAA career record for triple doubles with 5! Tyler Haws, Collinsworth, Wiltjer, Pangos, and maybe Karnowski and Sabonis should all play in the NBA.

Wisconsin's Kaminsky had a good game yesterday, outscoring Sparty's combined starters, 31-26. In addition to his 31 pts., Kaminsky grabbed 8 rebounds in their win over Michigan State.

Also saw that Michigan State's coach Izzo praised Kaminsky as the best current player in the country, part of Izzo's comments: 'I've never been more impressed with a player in our league since Glenn Robinson..'

I'm very glad BYU won that game; it puts them right back into the Tourney picture!! What a shame it would be if Collinsworth and Haws weren't in the NCAA tournament on a national stage. We had a GREAT weekend of college hoops to watch. For all those disappointed by the NFL, give college hoops a try. If you find the right teams, there is plenty of white star power (even though it should be more) in the NCAA.

I'd like to mention a couple of players we should be seeing in March you guys may not have heard of yet.


Seth Tuttle - Northern Iowa

If you haven't had a chance to watch the Panthers yet, please make time for them. They have 2 white starters (although they play 3-4 for around 70-80% or so of the game), and are very fun to watch. The Panthers are led by perhaps one of the best players in the country (Seth Greenburg was calling for him to get recognition in the National Player of the Year race) in forward Seth Tuttle. The Panthers offense flows through Tuttle, as he generates an NCAA leading 31.7% of his team's offense. He's a great player inside, and just dominates at times. He's also athletic enough to play closer to the perimeter as well. Northern Iowa is set to do some damage in March, with Tuttle, their deep bench and unselfish play.




Alec Peters- Valparaiso

Even though he is the Crusader's only white starter, combo forward Alec Peters is easily Valpo's best player this year. He averages nearly 17 PPG to lead the team. He's shooting an incredible 47% from 3 this year as well. But don't mistake Peters as just a three point shooter; he plays inside as well. His defense is also really good. Peters leads Valpo in rebounds as well with nearly 7 per game. Even though the Crusaders have just 1-2 other white guys off the bench, Peters makes them fun to watch.
