Here is the official thread for the European Track & Field Championships which starts tommorow. I will post a live
free link for everyone to watch in most countries from around the world.

Will we see a new euro sub 10 in the mens 100 meters?

How about the women in the 100 meters. Can one of the ladies we root for crack 11 seconds?

Will the world long jump record be broken?

Can Shubenkov go sub 13 in the 110 hurdles?

So many great athletes in one of the greatest international track meets on earth. I'm pumped up!

Lemaitre and Reus in the first heat in adjacent lanes.
That should be interesting even if it is just a heat.
I don't think they've ever raced each other before.

Christophe Lemaitre ran a time of 10.16 0.4 wind easing down towards the end which was the 2nd fastest time in all 5 heats of the mens 100 meters. He looked really good.

All of our guys made it though to tommorows semi finals except "Rocket" Ramil Guliyev. I'm very sad to say he false started. Very frustrating as he didn't need his best start for the opening heats. What a dissapoinment. Looking forward to tommorows hot semi finals and finals.

I completely overlooked the results of the women's 100m heats.
Daphne Schippers and Ivet Lalova were the 2nd and 3rd fastest qualifiers with times of 11.10 and 11.17.
Verena Sailer and Celine Distel-Bonnet were =7th at 11.25.

Schippers has a decent shot at the gold medal here.
Fingers crossed.

Schippers and Lalova made the womens 100 meters final. Schippers ran a 11.08 in her semi in bad conditions. Very impressive. I'm sad to say that Verena Sailer missed the final by 2/100th of a second. She was the defending womens 100 meter champion. She has had a wonderful career and I'm sad to see her not at least make one last final.

Hoping Dafne Schippers wins the gold with Lalova taking the bronze. I want to see Schippers stick with sprinting and give up the heptatlalon.

Christophe Lemaitre ran a seasons best time of 10.10 to advance to the finals. Lucas J. of Germany also won his heat to advance to the finals despite the strongest head wind of the day. Two other of our guys advanced but they are extreme long shots. Julian Reus dissapointed again. he led his race for around 70 meters from the starting blocks but then tied up to finish 4th. I think he gets nervous when racing out of Germany. He should be over that since he is in his mid 20's. What a shame. we could have had 2 Germans in the finals if he wouldn't have faded so bad at the end.

Hoping Christophe can repeat as champion. He has had a tough time the last several years. He needs this bad but Dasalou is the favorite. Let's go Christophe. Don't count him out. If he gets a good start, he can pull the upset. They call him "the master" for a reason.

Come on Pepeleflew! It's your time to shine. I also hope Lucas can take the bronze medal for Germany.

Congrats to the new European Womens !00 meters Champion Dafne Schippers. What closing speed. She had one of the worst starts of her life and ran down the whole field like a freight train. What a talent. Sprinting is what she was born to do! I'm so happy for her.

Schippers will go sub 11 next summer at the latest.

200m
Lemaitre 20,26 First semifinal
gemili 20,23 Second semifinale

Gemili looks phantastic. After 110m he Looks to the left and the right and ran with half power.
Christophe was not the first after 100m (Weak bench), he has to Fight until 180m.
After this race Gemili is the favorit.

Wow - 7 out of 8 finalists in the Men's 200m final tomorrow are white!
Lemaitre and Gemeli are in adjacent lanes - 3 and 4.
Actually I'm surprised they are not 5 and 6 since they were the winners of the semifinals. The outer lanes have less of a turn, so they are considered the better lanes in the 200m.
For Lemaitre especially, who doesn't start well or run the curve well, it will be a bit of a challenge.

Yes jacknyc. I noticed the same thing. When was the last championship final where we had 7 out of 8 guys representing us. Very rare in the sprints even for the European Championships. It shows there is some good depth with alot of young guys making some noise. Talbot could have made it 8 of 8 but he had a rare sub par race. I'm still pumped for the finals in the 200 meters.

I'm suprised no one commented on Shubenkov winning gold in the 110 hurdles. He beat a very good field and looked great running a time of 13.19! I am happy he won another medal at a major championship. He is for real. I just want to see the kid go sub 13. Maybe next summer.

Would also love to see Schippers pull the double gold tommorow in the sprints with Lalova grabbing a silver or bronze. I also would like to see Greg Rutherford win gold in the long jump.

I think the 800 meters is going to be 8 out of 8, with some real studs (the two Poles and the incomparable Bosse). Bosse will dominate. I have no doubt he will reach the Sebastian Coe level in the next year or two.

In the 400, the loss of Mazlak to injury stings. He was an emerging superstar and a lock for gold. Perhaps Rooney or Borlee can win.

Good races today--200, 400, 800, and the qualifying of the 1500.

martin Rooney 44,71

Incredible run for the gold by Martin Rooney. I've been waiting for a race like this from him for the last 4 or 5 years now. I always knew
he was capable of it. He may not be as good as Wariner or Maslak, but he is still a very talented 400 meters sprinter. Krewzina took 4th
which is a good step up for him. Not sure what happened to Borlee.

It's almost time for the 800 final and then the 200 meters womens and mens final. Hope for the best!

It was a 1-2 finish for the Polish Runners in the 800 final. Ksczot won the Gold Medal. He is incredible. Bosse led most of the race but faded from first to worst/last down the stretch. He will learn from this as he went out a little too hard and used up his energy.

Dafne Schippers has already become the best white female sprinter on earth still running. She won the gold medal running a world leading time of 22.03 in crappy conditions after running her 6th race in two days. Phenomenal. Incedible. Fantastic. She is a legitmate threat to win at the world champs or olympics as long as she becomes a full time sprinter. No more heptathalons please. What an amazing performance.

Watching the long jump and high jump cometitions which are both heating up.

The hilite of the evening will be in a little while. The mens 200 meters final should be sensational.

Congrats to Gemeli. Sad for Lemaitre but two silvers in the 100 & 200 meters is still quite an accomplishment. This might be just what Christophe needs to further motivate him to make some more changes in his training. Even in the 200, his start hurts him even if it's not
as much as in the 100 meters. He has to improve his start and then he can run some eye popping times again. B

Back to Adam Gemeli. The kid has to be the happiest guy on the planet. I have never seen him not smile on or off the track. He is a very
likeable guy who carries himself with class & dignity. I'm very happy for him. Adam Gemeli is now a household namd after the Commonwealth Games silver medal followed up by a gold medal at the Euro Champs. He is even with Christophe if not above him at the moment over both distances. He runs quicker times on average over both distances if you look at his times. I'm not bashing Lemaitre as he is still my favorite. I'm just giving credit where credit is due. Gemeli is every bit as talented as Lematire over both distances. Dasalou and Vicaut have competition.

This can only be a good thing for the future of euro sprinting. Even the germans have stepped up their level of sprinting with Lucas J. finishing 5th in the 100 final. I was happy to see Guliyev take 5th today. A step in the right direction to give him confidence going forward.

I will make a prediciton. The last 3 years and the results will bring out the best in Lemaitre. We have not seen his best perfomances yet. I see him going above and beyond what he did four years ago. We need to be patient. He has been humbled and he will not take it lightly. The master Lemaitre will be back with a vengence. I cannot wait for next summer.

So happy we had a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 meters. What a great day of competition despite the weather.

Gemili's background per Wiki

At the age of eleven, Gemili attended Dartford Grammar School.[SUP][7][/SUP] He also attended Barking and Dagenham College where he studied for a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, and hoped to attend university at some point.[SUP][8][/SUP] After the 2012 Olympics he started studying Sports and Exercise Science with Human Biology at the University of East London.[SUP][9][/SUP] He is a member of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers.[SUP][8][/SUP] He is of Iranian and Moroccan descent and remarked that "it's a very weird background for a sprinter, but it's working for me".[SUP][/SUP]
